It's been almost a month since I've seen my mum. I spoke to her almost everyday, updating her on what was happening in my life. She was proud when I told her I was pressing charges against Noah. She already approved of Jaxon and hadn't even met him. I wanted her to meet him, I was waiting for her to come out but apparently she got the dates confused. She wasn't coming out this weekend, it was another week. I didn't want to wait another week so here we were on Saturday morning on our way to introduce Jaxon to my mum. Jaxon was also more than happy to go this weekend which was less nerve wracking for me. Drew and Alena were following up in an hour, they understood that I wanted alone time with Mum and Jaxon before they came.

I kept looking over at Jaxon who was driving quietly, I wanted to ask him about what happened the other night at the station. I was curious about why he hugged Isaac.

"Yes, babe." He spoke up as he lifted my hand to kiss it, before placing it back onto his thigh as he held onto it.

I let out a giggle as he said those words, he was beginning to understand me too well, "What happened the other night at the station?"

Jaxon looked over at me before focusing on the road again, "I realised that there was nothing Isaac could have done, he was in a shitty position. He also didn't tell me that he helped my dad out of the car and sat with him until the ambulance came."

"He didn't remember it, the night was a big blur apparently." I added

"I don't blame him. But I knew he was trying to be the better man and it isn't fair of me to hate him. He didn't do anything."

I smiled as he said those words, he looked over at me before letting out a chuckle, "Yes, babe. The Bromance is alive and well. Thank you for your concern and for not getting involved."

"Also, don't be nervous. I will be the perfect boyfriend." He added.

I let out a chuckle as I leaned forward to kiss him on the cheek, "I have no doubts that she will love you."

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the sign for the rehab clinic, there was no turning back. This was it. I was introducing my boyfriend to my mum. I got out of the car and waited as Jaxon was messaging rapidly on his phone, I was curious about what was happening but chose not to question it when I saw the anger on his face. He clicked his screen shut before looking up at me, giving me his smile as he reached for me hand.

Once we checked in, we sat next to each other, hand in hand as we waited on my Mum to come out. I smiled when I saw how healthy she kept looking. I kept having a slight fear of seeing her come out one day looking frail but she kept making me proud each time I came to see her. She smiled at me as she raised her hands to hug and greet me. As soon as I introduced Jaxon to her, she immediately gave him a motherly hug which made me smile watching it. It was a relief that they both hit it off. Mum loved sharing embarrassing stories from when I was a kid. It was amazing to listen to because there were stories I had totally forgotten about until she was reminding me of them.

I watched as Jaxon got up to walk to the cafeteria to order food for us, he refused to let my mum or me pay for the food. As he walked off my mum squeezed my hand.

"He's so handsome. I'm so happy for you baby." She whispered.

"Thanks Mum. He's really good to me." I responded as I watched him wait patiently in line.

"That's good baby. If he doesn't look after you he has me to deal with."

"You'll have to get in line with Drew and Isaac." I responded as I laughed.

"Isaac, how is he? I haven't seen him in such a long time." She asked as she entwined her fingers with mine.

"He's good. He says hi. I talk about you to him a lot. Oh, and Drew and Alena are on their way. They should be here soon actually."

Jaxon came up to us with sandwiches, hot chips, nachos and heaps of other food. He plotted down the two trays of food in front of us as he resumed his seat next to me. I let out a chuckle as I shook my head at him.

"I couldn't decide on what to buy." He said as he shrugged his shoulders.

We had been talking about school when the subject about college was brought up. Mum appeared disappointed when I told her I wasn't going to college or university after high school. Luckily I was saved by the bell when I noticed Drew and Alena walk in. I let out a laugh when I noticed Isaac follow in with them. Mum must of noticed my movement as she turned to look behind her, before getting off her seat to greet the three of them. I smiled as everyone took a seat at the table while all talking animatedly to each other. It was at the moment I was glad we decided to come visit.

We spent the entire afternoon with Mum until they told us visiting hours were over so we all had to say our goodbyes.

"Baby, I'm so proud of you three." Mum said as she hugged Drew, Alena and I.

"I confirmed with your doctor that you finish your program in five days. Avery and I will come up and help you get your things."

"Yes and I will start looking for places to stay." Mum said.

I shook my head immediately, "I already spoke with Isaac, you will take my room until we get you settled." I said. I smiled when her eyes began to water as she shook her head.

"Oh baby, thank you. I promise it won't be for long. Just until I get a job and get a bit of savings."

"We are happy to have you." Isaac added as he kissed her on her cheek.

"It was lovely to meet you, Jaxon. Look after my girls." Mum said as she hugged Jaxon.

Jaxon let out a light chuckle, "I promise they are safe with me."

"I'll see you soon, Mum." I said as we walked out. I turned back to look at my mum one last time before I walked out. She smiled and blew me a kiss, so I blew one back before waving and walking out. I was excited for Mum and I was going to make sure she stayed back on track. She's worked too hard to go backwards.

By the time we got home, we all went our seperate ways. Drew took Alena with him for a sleepover. Isaac was going out with Nikki and I was spending quality time with Jaxon. I was curious if Nikki had told Isaac about our little tiff, I had zero intention of bringing it up because I didn't want to get in between their relationship. Isaac hadn't mentioned anything to me so I can only presume that she hasn't said anything.

Jaxon and I had been having a movie marathon and thanks to ubereats, we didn't even have to leave the house to eat. This was the type of thing I enjoyed, relaxing together in each other's company. I was enjoying the night so much that the time completely got past me. By the time realisation sunk in, it was already midnight.

"Just stay here. Don't drive at this time of the night." Jaxon said.

I looked into his eyes as I tried to decide what to do. A part of me wanted to stay, another part said to just go home. I smiled as I got my phone out to text Isaac, letting him know that I was staying here. I felt calm and relaxed as we continued our movie marathon in their cinema room upstairs. The sound of my phone buzzing underneath cause my eyes go pop open. It was at that moment that I realised we fell asleep on the couch.

Looking around in confusion I noticed it was 2am, I tried to grab my phone as I searched for it in the darkness.

'Who the hell was calling me at 2am?'

My mind was racing with a million reasons and none of them were good, I saw a glimpse of the light of the phone and moved my hand towards it.

"Hello? Dad? What's wrong?" I whispered, looking behind me to see that Jaxon was still sleeping.

"Avery, where are you?" He asked.

"I'm at Jaxon's, we were watching movies and it got late. I ended up falling asleep on the couch." I said as I cleared my throat from the grogginess.

"Somethings happened with your mum." He said as he spoke slow and stern.

My body jerked upright as I now stared at the wall, "What do you mean? What happened?"

"Babe? You okay?" Jaxon whispered as he sat up while rubbing his eyes.

"Maybe we should talk tomorrow, it's not an appropriate conversation to have over the phone." Dad said, his voice shook a little.

I rubbed Jaxon's shoulder for his to lie back down. I was completely wide awake now and had no intention of letting this go, "Tell me, now. Dad."

"They found your mum overdosing and she didn't make it."

It was like he was speaking in slow motion because everything around me began to slow down as my heart beat began to beat faster. My eyes began to water as the words slowly began to process, making me shake my head in denial.

"No, you're lying." Was all I could say.

"Baby girl, I'm sorry but she didn't make it."

"No! No! She was fine! I saw her just yesterday!" I said as I began to sob.

Jaxon immediately sat up next to me in a panic, "Babe? What's wrong?"

My phone slipped through my fingers as I just sat there staring at the wall, praying that this was all a dream and that I was still sleeping on the couch. I looked at Jaxon who now has my phone to his ear, but I couldn't register the words that were being said.

"I don't believe you!" I screamed out at the phone when I caught a glimpse of two words "Mum" and "dead" being said. Jaxon wrapped his arm around my shoulder as he continued talking to my dad.

'She's not dead.'

'Don't listen to them.'

'She wouldn't betray you like this.'

"Ok, we'll see you tomorrow." Jaxon said before hanging up the phone.

"Babe.-" Jaxon whispered as he wrapped his arm around my waist.

I couldn't form any words as I just began to break down. Jaxon immediately began to console me as he wrapped arms around me, bringing me closer to his chest as he laid back down. I continued to cry as Jaxon ran his hand up and down my back.

'She's gone...'
