"I'm sorry. Can you repeat that?" Isaac demanded as he leant against the doorframe of my room, crossing his arms over his chest.

"I want a race." I repeated slowly, not stuttering in my words.

"Are we going to talk about this morning?" He asked, trying to change the subject.

"What's there to talk about? I had a nightmare. I get them from time to time" I said, shaking my head in disbelief.

"Then in that case, no."

"Yes."

"No, BooBear."

"Don't use the nickname because it won't work. I'm ready!" I responded, my voice raising a little higher with confidence.

"No you're not! You got shot for fucks sake!" He spat out, anger evident in his tone

"Oh please, that was like six weeks ago! I'm perfectly healthy. Trust me." I responded calmly. It was never appealing to watch when Isaac and I fought, especially when we were both passionate about the topic at hand.

I knew I was ready to race, I was ready to feel that adrenaline again, to have the wind blowing through my hair while I escaped all my worries, even if it was for a few minutes. In those few minutes, the world stopped and I was the only one moving. I needed to feel that again. Truth be told, winning that extra cash would also be a bonus. Especially after that bombshell my mum dropped on me last week. If I was going to go see her, we would need money for that.

"I should have known the moment you came back after dropping Alena off at her friends. Why so eager all of a sudden? Is there something you're not telling me?" Isaac asked after a minute of deliberating my request. I looked up into his eyes and had every intention of lying to him, but it felt like he already knew about my conversation with my mum and just wanted clarification.

I swallowed the lump in my throat, "No?" I said, however sounding more of a question.

"Really Avery, we starting to lie to each other now?" He asked playfully as he raised an eyebrow at me.

"Ugh!! How do you do that!?" I demanded as I plopped onto my bed in frustration.

He shrugged his head and walked over to sit next to me, "It's a gift."

He patted my thigh in encouragement to tell him what was going on.

I let out a frustrated sigh a I laid back on my bed and tilted my head to the right to look up at Isaac, "My mum asked if we would go see her at the clinic."

"There it is. You going to see her?"

I sat back up and brought my knees to my chest to lean my chin against them, "I don't know yet. So can we focus on me racing please. Let's get back into it Isaac! Dream team, remember!?!" I raised my voice in excitement as I playfully shook his shoulders.

Isaac bit on his bottom lip as he stared at me, deep in thought before letting out a sigh. I watched as he leant back to pull out his phone from his pocket, at this point I knew what was happening and I couldn't help but jump up and down on the bed as I watched him make the call I knew was coming.

"David, my man. Tell me what's up?" Isaac asked. I sat there in complete silence, as I watched him nod his head absentmindedly to whatever information he was given. The wait was killing me because I was hoping that they were able to squeeze me into a race. I managed to calm my nerves down until Isaacs eyes widened in shock before covering up his tracks.

'What the hell was that about?'

I waited patiently as he finished the call and put his phone back into his back pocket. I was expecting him to tell me what happened but instead he leaned back on his forearms on my bed and looked around my room.

"Your room turned out nice." His comment was enough to receive a punch in the stomach.

"Alright, alright. Geez." He said in between laughs before adding on, "You got your race BooBear. Tonight at 7pm."

"That's a first, normally they are after 11pm aren't they?" I asked as I creased my eyebrows in confusion.

"They bumped the time up and the last spot was taken." He said as he got up to leave the room. He patted my thigh once more as he added onto his comment "Get ready. I'm going to give the bike a test ride."

"Who took the spot?"

"Jaxon."

* * *

I wasn't going to lie, I was a bundle of nerves tonight and I have no idea if it's because I'm finally racing or if it's because I knew Jaxon was going to be here. I had also fully expected Isaac to bring Nikki but he didn't want her exposed to this world of his, "she was too pure for that". I was kind of glad though because Nikki didn't exactly "blend" into the crowd, I love her to bits but she would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

I started to play with the hem of my shirt and couldn't help but scoff at my choice of clothing. Well, Isaacs choice of clothing. He always insisted that I dressed the part, making me wear leather of some sort. This time around, he's got me in leather fitted pants, ankle combat boots, a white single with a skull on the entire front of it and a black jeans jacket, I don't know why he insisted on jackets because they were just going to get covered by my bike jacket, but he asserted his opinion that I needed to look "bad-ass" apparently.

I snapped out of my thoughts when I all of a sudden felt his hands go on top of mine, just as his voice filled the car "Stop fiddling."

"I'm just a little nervous."

"We can totally cancel."

"Not happening." I responded instantly while shaking my head.

He shrugged his head as he chuckled, "It was worth a shot."

"You going to be okay with Jaxon being there?" He asked after a few minutes of silence.

"I'll be fine. I'm not gonna let it affect my game."

"That's my girl."

I wasn't about to admit that I was freaking out, I couldn't help but think about the last time he and I were at the races together, the night that everything literally went to shit for the both of us. And I knew I was to blame for that.

I can admit that now.

"Mask on" Isaac warned, indicating that we were almost within the vicinity on the race. I let out a breath before I put the mask on followed by my new beanie.

"Seriously, you couldn't have gotten me a plain beanie?" I moaned out of annoyance.

"Had to get you something special." He responded as he smirked at me.

"Did it really have to have the word Barbie written on the forehead?!" I argued my point, as I grumpily pressed the beanie further down my head.

Isaac let out a hearty laugh as he turned into the side street, "I think it looks cute."

"Whatever."

"You're fault for losing the other one."

"I didn't lose it. I know you conspired against me and stole it!"

His chuckle was enough to confirm that we both knew what really happened to my beanies. The jokes slowly died down as he drove through the slip lane, that lead to the secluded park where we all parked our cars. I looked around and found myself trying to find Jaxon's car to see if he had arrived yet. I couldn't see it though, I tried to ignore the sting in my heart from not seeing his car.

'He probably doesn't even know you are racing.'

"He's here with Lucas."

My head turned to my right as I stared at Isaac in confusion.

"Jaxon. He came with Lucas, they needed his ute for the bike." Isaac clarified, not making eye contact as he looked for parking. I creased my eyes at him as I watched him begin to reverse park.

"I don't care. Didn't even cross my mind."

"Sure it didn't. Let's go check in."

"Ugh! How do you do that?!" I groaned out loud as I got out of the car, jacket and helmet in hand.

"It's a gift."

After we had checked in, Isaac walked back to unhook the bike from the trailer while I waited patiently on the side lines. My hand involuntarily went towards my face, making sure I still had my mask, wig and beanie attached. Every time someone looked in my direct, I immediately felt exposed. I always had to take a few deep breaths to calm the nerves down.

I think the last breath was inhaled too quickly because pain shot through my side quicker than I could blink. I hissed out in pain as my hand quickly went towards the left hand side of my stomach. My hand immediately dropped and I looked around to make sure no one had caught onto my actions.

My hands started to feel against all my pockets, praying that I brought my medication with me. Panic started to rise when I couldn't find anything.

"Shit." I whispered in anger at myself. My hands then moved to the inside pockets of my leather jacket, relief washed over me when I felt the tiny packet of pills. Quickly popping one out, I swallowed it just in time as Isaac showed up, head down messaging on his phone while he explained a few details to me,

"You are ready to go, they bumped you down to 7:30pm. Only a few people racing so this will probably finish truly before 11pm." He looked up with his eyes only as his head remained down, facing the direction of his phone.

"Ok cool." I smiled too eagerly at him.

"You look suspicious." He said, as he raised an eyebrow at me. I didn't trust myself to comment so I just smiled and shrugged my shoulders.

"I'm just ready to take people's money away from them."

Isaac chuckled as he brought his fist up for me to bump, "Keep talking dirty to me."

I let out a laugh as he chuckled, before wrapping a protective arm around me stating cockily,

"Let's go crush them."

We knew we had the win in the bag the moment we walked up to the starting line and the racer's hands were shaking like crazy. She tried really hard to control her nerves but failed miserably. So it didn't surprise me when I found out Isaac had turned the charm on and persuaded for a double or nothing bet.

Don't get me wrong, I always got nervous before races, but it was so important to fake it all the way until the end of the race. The people here were like piranha's, vicious and always on the prowl. I would always walk with my head held high, a cocky smile and in long steps. If only they knew what was really going through my mind. Thanks to faking it, we won $3450 just like that.

To celebrate our win, we decided to kick it and watch the rest of the races. To my surprise I found out that Isaac had been helping Jaxon out, it didn't anger me though. I appreciated that Isaac became instant friends with the guys and I was not going to ruin it for him by making him choose his friends, we weren't children.

What shocked me the most was the sight of Drew, maybe because I hadn't seen him prior to tonight. My guess would be, he was here to support his best friend. I was about to go and say hi to him, until I remembered that I was in a disguise and my brother still didn't know about me racing. Unless he did, then he was hiding it well.

As if on queue, he looked around and then his eyes locked into my direction before turning to Jaxon and Isaac. I tried so hard to lip read but failed miserably. My guess is that he asked who I was because they both looked at me, then to each other before shrugging their shoulders. Isaac then responded, my eyes creased as I tried to focus on the conversation. I let out a frustrated sigh when I realised I wasn't going to succeed. So I sat down on the park bench, pulled my phone out and started messaging Nikki, I had to do something to waste time until Jaxon's race began.

I continued my banter with Nikki mainly teasing her about her and Isaac, ignoring the shuffling that was occurring next to me.

"Hey! It's my Barbie girl again! I've missed you!"

I slowly turned to my right to see Lucas sitting next to me, smiling mischievously at me. His smile made me raise an eyebrow in question at him.

"It's me, Ken."

"Go away." I grunted before turning my head back towards my phone. Not offended by my remark, he chuckled before leaning both arms against the picnic bench behind our seat.

"So, I see you came with Isaac. Is he your boyfriend?"

"No."

"Do you have a boyfriend?"

"No"

"You go to school?"

"No."

"What do you do for a living"

I let out a sigh before turning my full attention to Lucas and with the most serious look I responded, "I'm a female impersonator."

His smile dropped quicker than I could blink causing me to laugh out loud before playfully smacking his shoulder.

"Great chat." I said before turning my attention back to my phone.

"Hey man."

I looked up and instantly regretting it when I saw Drew come to view. He looked at me for a few seconds before giving Lucas a handshake/fist bump.
I didn't maintain our stare for too long, quickly concentrating on my phone pretending to message Nikki. I didn't want to risk looking at or speaking around Drew. I wasn't ready to tell him about this.

"Careful with this one, she's feisty."

"Hi. Name's Drew." I closed my eyes for a millisecond because I knew he was talking to me. I turned my head to look over as I reached out to shake his hand before mumbling,

"Barbie. Nice to meet you."

"You look familiar. Do I know you?" He asked as he held on to my hand.
