anyway, NO WANDAVISION SPOILERS or you're grounded 😤

i know i left a little bit of a cliffhanger last week, but this chapter has nothing to do with what happened in the last chapter, you'll have to wait a few more chapters to see how that turns out. warning: it's not good :)

until then, enjoy the fluff and peace while you can because it's not going to stick around for much longer!

"Did you bring the stuff?"

————————————————————

"Now, these packets I'm handing out are pretty large, but don't worry, we will use these to help you study for final exams coming up next month," Ms. Warren, their physics teacher, said as she passed out the packets.

When Adelaide got hers, she handed one to Peter before flipping through it. It was quite long as it reviewed material all the way from the first day of class to the last chapter they had reviewed.

"I know final exams are still a few weeks away, but I want you all to be prepared so I will assign a section of this packet for homework each night to help you review," she said, "Pages one through five will be due Monday. You're free to do them all in one night, but I can't imagine how that would help you review for the final. I will take a grade on them every day. Questions?"

"I can't believe this semester is almost over," Peter mumbled as he flipped through the packet. Adelaide nodded in agreement.

"I can't believe December is next week," she said.

And so is the Winter Dance, she said in her head. As excited as she was to go, her stomach swarmed with butterflies every time she thought about it. There was still so much she wasn't ready for. She hadn't bought a dress or even practiced how to dance.

And...what if Peter tried to kiss her that night?

Adelaide wasn't exactly against the idea, but she also had never kissed a boy before (those three seconds with Peter years ago didn't count). What if she was a bad kisser? Or a bad dancer? There were just about a million and one things that could go wrong. And considering her luck with any previous parties or dances she had been to, about half a million of those things were sure to go wrong.

Suddenly, the final dismissal bell rang, pulling her out of her spiral.

Shaking her head, she stuffed the packet into her binder and threw everything into her backpack before standing up. She waited by her desk for Peter to pack up his things too. Once he was done, they both left the room together.

"Don't forget you have the rest of the week off!" Ms. Warren called after her students as they left the classroom, "Happy Thanksgiving!"

"Oh that reminds me," Adelaide suddenly said as she and Peter joined the busy hallway of busy students hurrying home for the long Thanksgiving weekend.

"Yeah?" Peter said.

"Pepper and Tony were wondering if you and May had any plans for Thanksgiving," she said as they walked down the hall side by side. Peter shrugged.

"If you count heating up frozen food and dessert as plans, then yes, Aunt May and I are going to be very busy Thursday," he said and Adelaide laughed lightly. He smiled at her.

"Well then its official," she said, "You and May are coming over to the Tower for Thanksgiving." Adelaide knew that this would be the first Thanksgiving the two of them would spend without Ben and she didn't want to leave them alone.

"But I thought you were a terrible cook? Listen, just because I'll eat anything doesn't mean I want to eat a burnt turkey," Peter teased, making her bump her shoulder with his and roll her eyes. He chuckled.

"Shut up," she mumbled, "I'm not cooking. In fact, Pepper and Happy aren't even going to let me and Tony in the kitchen. They're going to cook everything."

"Well, in that case, May and I will definitely be there," Peter smiled, "Thanks, Ada."

—————

It had been quite a while since Adelaide had last been to her old apartment building.

The nostalgia hit her the moment she walked through the doors into the lobby. She spotted the receptionist, Don, sitting behind the table, focused on picking something out of his shoe.

"Hey Don," she smiled. The man looked up and his eyes widened in surprise when he realized that Ella had actually greeted him instead of ignoring him.

"H-Hey," he stuttered and he couldn't say any more words to say before she walked into the elevator and the doors closed behind her.

Adelaide, in actuality, wasn't here for her old apartment. She had gotten an emergency call from Vivian who had said she was dangerously low on glue and paper for the decorations she was making for the Winter Dance. So, naturally, Adelaide asked Happy for some of his crafting supplies (don't ask) and now, armed with backup glue and paper, she was here to help her best friend out.

When the elevator doors opened, she instinctively knew exactly where to go and quickly headed down the hallway. But before she knocked on Vivian's door, she paused to look at the door to her old apartment, thinking about the time she had seen it last.

Adelaide locked the door from the inside and closed it behind herself with a definite click. She had left the keys inside so there was no way she could get back in.

She stared at the green door for a moment and then sighed. This was it. This was final goodbye. There was no coming back.

Ever.

She inhaled shakily. Those moments were not her favorite ones. That night had been one of the worst nights of her life.

Suddenly, her old door swung open.

To her surprise, a young couple stepped out. They looked sad and Adelaide couldn't help but feel immediate empathy for them, despite the fact that she didn't know them at all. Maybe it was because they were living in her old apartment, but she felt bad for them.

"There you are!" Vivian suddenly said when she opened her door and spotted her best friend standing in the hallway, "Come on!" She grabbed Adelaide's arm and pulled her inside before closing the door behind her.

"Did you bring the stuff?" Vivian asked and Adelaide took a second to regather her thoughts. She held up the bag of materials.

"It's all in here," she said.

"Thank god," she breathed, taking the bag from her hands and leading her down to her bedroom, "MJ told me to take extra supplies from the art teacher, but I completely forgot to and since the school is closed for Thanksgiving, I couldn't go back. Besides, I think I must have made like a 100 snowflakes already and I really could use your help."

"Well, I am the co-chair of the decorations committee and don't have a life so I'm here for as long as you need me," she said, taking her coat off and hanging on the chair near the door of her room. "And I needed an excuse to get out of the house anyway, I was doing math homework, ugh."

Vivian laughed, "Well, good thing I called you then."

"Yes, definitely," Adelaide agreed, "So then I'll just take the blue papers for blue snowflakes?"

"Perfect. I'll take the white papers," Vivian said and both teenagers sat down on the bed and began cutting snowflakes from papers. They worked in silence for a while until Adelaide spoke up.

"So," Adelaide started, "When are you and Ned going on your first date?"

Vivian blushed.

"We're actually going next week," she said, "He won't tell me where we're going, but he told me that I was going to love it."

"No way," Adelaide said, "Ned actually decided your first date and didn't come ask me for advice? Holy shit."

"Does he always ask you?" she asked. Adelaide laughed.

"The question is, when doesn't he ask me," she said and Vivian chuckled, "Is it strange that I feel like he's growing up? Because a year ago, trust me, he never would have even been able to talk to you."

"Really?" Vivian asked, "I'm really glad he asked me. I uh...I thought he really was cute when I first saw him, but I didn't have the guts to ask him."

"You know, he actually said the same thing to me when he first met you," Adelaide said as she finished making one snowflake. She started a little stack beside her on the bed for all the blue snowflakes. "He made me his wingwoman. I was terrible at it. Obviously."

"I don't know, I just...I really like him, you know?" Vivian admitted quietly, staring at the bedsheets, "He's just...I've never met anyone like him before."

Adelaide smiled. She knew that feeling very well herself.

"Wait I have an idea!" Adelaide suddenly said, abandoning her paper and scissors off the side, "You want to know where he's taking you next week, right?"

"Yeah...?" Vivian said, confused.

"Well, if I call him, maybe he'll tell me," she said suggestively and Vivian hesitated, caught in a dilemma. As much as she didn't want to ruin Ned's surprise, she also didn't know what to wear to their first date. And she didn't want to mess up on their first date which was technically her first date ever.

"Okay, what the hell, let's do it," Vivian said and dropped her stuff off to the side so she could focus as Adelaide dialed Ned's number and put it on speaker. The phone rang a couple times before he picked up.

"Hello?" he said.

"Hey, Ned," Adelaide said calmly, "So I was wondering something."

"What?" he asked.

"I know you and Viv are dating now, but when are you taking her out on your first date?" she asked. She and Vivian made eye contact and tried not to burst into giggles.

"Oh," Ned said, "Don't worry, I've already taken care of it. We're going next week."

"Wow, that's great," Adelaide said, glancing at Vivian, "So where are you going?"

"Sorry, I can't tell you. It's a surprise," he said. Vivian sighed quietly, throwing her head back. So close. Adelaide cleared her throat, thinking fast.

"Come on, Ned, I thought you always needed my advice on these things," she said.

"I did...but then I talked to Peter and he helped me come up with the idea so I don't need your help this time. Thanks though."

Adelaide frowned. So now he was asking Peter for advice instead of her?

"Just tell me where you're going. It's not like Vivian's here with me. She can't hear you." Vivian gave her a look and Adelaide shrugged. Some lies just had to be told for the greater good. Like knowing what to wear to the first date.

"Sorry, but this is our first date and I want it to be perfect," Ned said, "You know how much this means to me. I've been planning this since I first saw her and I want her to see how much I like her. It has to stay a surprise."

Vivian looked up at Adelaide, her lips parting in surprise before her face flushed with heat. She bit her lip, fighting back a huge smile.

"Okay, okay, fine," Adelaide said, "I'll talk to you later, bye." As soon as she hung up the call, she and Vivian began laughing together until Vivian fell back on her bed and tried to catch her breath. She grinned at her ceiling.

"He really likes you," Adelaide smiled.

"I know," Vivian breathed, "It's crazy. I really like him too. And he's such a good kisser."

"Gross!" Adelaide said as she lied down beside her, wrinkling her nose, "I did not need to know that about Ned." Vivian laughed.

"Do you ever wonder how anything happening to you is really real?" Vivian asked after a moment. Adelaide chuckled.

"More times than you can imagine," she admitted.

"And do you worry that it will all go away someday?" she asked. Adelaide took a deep breath, closing her eyes.

"Every day," she said and then turned her head to look at her, "But Ned will never leave you, if that's what you're worried about. I know I can't promise it, but if I know him, he's not the kind of guy to mess around with a lot of girls just for the fun of it. Just...promise me you won't break his heart."

Adelaide held out her pinky finger and Vivian smiled at her.

"I promise," she said, hooking her pinky finger around Adelaide's.

"Good," she smiled.
