Chapter 4

Zac's POV

I sat outside my front door waiting for Brooke's Prius. As I reached into my backpack for my phone, her car rounded the corner and stopped right in front of me. I climbed into her car and blushed as she ran her eyes over my body checking what I was wearing. She smiled as of approving of what I'm wearing; white v-neck t-shirt, loose jeans, and a pair of Lakai shoes.

"Hey, do you know Matt's digits?" I asked.

"Matt Lee? Why? And don't say digits use phone number or just number," She scolded.

"Oh ok. It's nothing," I mumbled.

Brooke parked in an empty parking space and sighed, "This is it,"

Suddenly my hands felt clammy and my stomach did a flip, God I sound like a girl. "Come on, Brooke, it's now or never," I climbed out of the car, and felt all eyes on me as I pushed my glasses higher up onto my nose. I snapped out of my trance when Brooke tugged at my sleeve and urged me to walk towards to school.

Ok, this is it, I thought as a walked through the staring crowd with Brooke next to me as I over heard some of the conversations.

  "Who is that?"

"What the f*ck, he's hot, is he new?"

  "I call dibs,"

"Wonder if he's good at football, we need more players,"

After walking through the crowded area which seemed like an eternity we reached a table and laid our backpacks down.

 Brooke's POV

"Well, that was interesting," I said slightly jealous that there were others trying to get to Zac.

 "Yea," Zac trailed off awkwardly.

Before I could say anything else, Shawna Koleman strutted up to our table in her 6 inch stilettos  and plopped right into the seat next to Zac.

"Hey, are you new here? 'Cause if you are I would gladly be able to show you around," She purred while batting her eyelashes. I watched Zac stutter a bit before stepping in to help him.

"No, he's not new, and if he was I would show him around, so thank you for your concern. You can go back to your friends now," I said while faking a smile. She looked at me in disgust, rolled her eyes and diverted her attention back to Zac.

"Here's my number if you're having any trouble," She smiled as she reached into her bra and pulled out a piece of paper handing it to him as he reluctantly took it.

"Want me to throw that away for you?" I asked once she left.

"Nah, I think I'll keep it," He replied. I frowned as the bell rang; I guess I'll have to ask him if he liked her later.

                          -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Zac's POV

I dropped my backpack on the ground and sat down on the asphalt. I mentally grinned because no one has tried to embarrass me yet. As I pushed my glasses back up to the top of my nose I heard someone clear their throat behind me.

"New kid you're sitting on someone's spot," I voice stated. I turned around to see that it was the school's wide receiver, Adam Zimmern himself.

"No I'm not, and I'm not new," I retorted.

"So you're saying that you are Zac Smith?" He asked raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah," I started to say but I was cut off by a new voice.

"Hey, I didn't know you were in this class," Shawna yelled giving me an awkward hug, "What's your name again?"

"Zac, Zac Smith," I responded while smirking.

"You know this guy?" Adam asked.

"Yea, I met him this morning and gave him my number," Shawna said glaring at all the other girls in our class.

"Oh, I guess you're cool, sorry" Adam sighed.

                                              -----------------------------------------------------------------

I shoved my feet into my shoes and headed out of the gym door towards my art class when I heard someone yell out, "Hey, Zac wait," I turned around to see Adam and Clayton trying to catch up with me.

"What's your next class?" Clayton asked.

"Um, art, same as you guys," I said.

"Oh yea. Wanna sit at with me and Clayton today?" Adam asked.

"Yea, sure" I said jumping at the chance.

                                           -------------------------------------------------------------------

   Brooke's POV

I shuffled into the art room and looked at our usual table, everything was normal except for one thing, Zac wasn't in his usual seat. Soon Matt and Becca arrived and sat down around the table.

"Where's Zac?" They asked me in unison.

I looked around the room until my eyes spotted a familiar face sitting with Adam and Clayton. I let out a confused sigh and said "He's over at that table,"

"You mean the guy in the white shirt?" Becca asked

 "Yeah," I said softly.

She didn't say anything else, as I opened my sketch book and started a rough draft of a miniature horse that Zac has given me on my sixth birthday.

                                                ----------------------------------------------------------------

At last, lunch arrived and I will get a chance to at least talk to Zac. Before I reached the table Zac ran up to me.

"Hey, I'm gonna sit with Adam and Clayton today. Is that ok with you?" He asked eager to get back to his new friends.

"Um, yeah," I mumbled in disappointment.
