Chapter 33

Adam's POV

I decided to avoid Brooke for today, just to let her be while I put my plan into action. I told Clayton to tell Vienna to meet me in Mr. Coutches' room. I was drumming my fingers on the desk top when Vienna stepped inside the room giving me a seductive smile.

"So, are you here for a round two?" She grinned as I grimaced. She strutted over to me and sat down in the seat in front of me and turned around, making sure that her boobs are clearly visible.

"Actually I just want you to recite what our deal is," I scowled at her.

"Oh that's it? Well what do I get in return?" She smirked. She ran her fingers down my chest and I cringed at her touch.

"All I have is a dollar, so take it or leave it?" I offered her as I raised an eyebrow.

"A dollar just to say stuff? I'll take it," She grinned. She held out her hand expecting a crisp bill to appear in it, but it didn't. "Pay up."

"You gotta talk first," I smirked at her.

"Ok," She said rolling her eyes. I smirked as I shoved my hands into my pockets, waiting for her to begin. "Well, I-"

"Vienna," I corrected as she glared at me.

"I, Vienna told Adam that if he kissed me with his shirt off, that I would stop bothering Brooke. And that was the deal," She scowled.

"Well, that's all I need," I smirked as I headed out the door, "Bye,"

"Wait, what about my money?" She frowned as I leaned up against the door frame.

I smirked at her as she glared at me, "Did you really think that I would pay you to say stuff? Besides, dollar bills would make you look like a stripper in that." I grinned as I mentioned her outfit. I walked out the door as I heard her huff in either frustration or embarrassment.

                                                           ------------------------------

"Hey," I said casually to Zac as we walked out to the lunch quad. He raised an eyebrow at me before speaking.

"Uh, hey," He said with a slight scowl. "Are you here to explain what happened?"

"Uh, yea. Do you want the short version or the long version?" I asked, trying not to make the conversation awkward.

"Short version, I have somewhere to be," He shrugged. I pulled out my tape recorder out of my pocket and pressed play. Vienna's shrill voice came out of the tape recorder, and Zac stared at me once it stopped playing.

"Are you stupid? Why would you agree to that?" Zac frowned.

I frowned back at him, "I was trying to protect her. You don't know what kinda stuff Vienna can do. When I broke up with her she-"

"I get it," Zac shrugged, "Did you tell Brooke yet?"

"I did, but she won't believe me, yet," I said. Now that I have this recording she has to forgive me.

"Oh, well I guess you should go find her," Zac said, then he started to walk away.

"Uh, yea, sure," I said as I turned to walk towards the garden, but Zac's voice stopped me.

"Adam," Zac said, "Brooke's in the library."

"Oh," I said, suddenly feeling stupid. I turned and headed the other way towards the library. I entered quietly ignoring all the stares I was getting from some people sitting at a table in the non-fiction section. I saw Brooke sitting alone at a table that was nestled in the far corner of the fiction section.

I walked over to the table trying not to make myself be seen by her yet. I slid into the seat across from her; she closed her book and looked up. Once she saw it was me, something changed in her eyes. A pang of anxiety and remorse flashed through her eyes before it changed to confusion.

"Uh what are you doing here?" She whispered.

"I need to tell you I'm not lying," I whispered back.

"You already did," She scowled. She stole glances at the librarian to make sure that our conversation wasn't bothering anyone.

"But I have proof," I said and she raised her eyebrow. I pulled out my tape recorder pressed play. The recording played out loudly and Brooke quickly reached over and pressed her hand over the speaker trying to drown out the sound. I quickly pressed pause and we looked up to see the librarian walking our way.

"Excuse me, but I would like to ask you two, to leave. You are distracting everyone from their work," The old lady said, trying to as polite as possible.

"Uh, ok, sorry," Brooke apologized to her. We picked up our stuff an walked out the door and into the   outside heat. "OK what's your proof?"

"This," I said as I pressed play and once again, Vienna's voice played out into the air. "See, I'm not lying," I said once the recording was over. Her lips are formed into a perfect 'o' and she sighed realizing that I am right.

"Adam why would you do that?" She said softly. Her eyes are staring intently at the ground as if she is studying every last detail of the concrete.

"Uh, I was um, trying to protect you," I stuttered as I was caught off guard by her question. She scowled at me as if I just said said she is fat.

"So you didn't think that I could handle Vienna?" She scowled.

"Well you don't know what she's capable of," I scowled back at her.

"Oh yea, a few rumors are totally gonna hurt me," She shot back at me.

"That's not what I mean and you know it," I frowned at her. She just rolled her eyes and bit her lip.

"Stop doing that," I told her. In a while, if she keeps biting her lip she'll draw blood. She just tilted her head to the side as if saying "Doing what?"

"Stop biting your lip," I told her again, but nothing happened. I scowled at her and she kept biting her lip. I grinned at her and she gave me a confused look before I kissed her which freed her lip.

"Adam what was that for?" Brooke grimaced after she pulled away. She was staring more intently at the ground this time.

"I told you not to bite your lip," I shrugged as I caught sight of a pinkish tint on her face. "Brooke, look at me,"

"No," She said, still avoiding my eyes. I lifted her face up to mine with my hand and she frowned at me.

"You're blushing," I said teasing her. She scowled at me, but didn't object. I grinned. Maybe she still likes me.

"You still like me," I said grinning like an idiot.

"No," She said defiantly, but I could tell she was lying.

"Yea you do," I said and before she could object I said something else, "Well since now that you know that I wasn't lying, do you forgive me yet?"

"No," She said simply and my heart dropped. My legs felt like noodles and I stared at her blankly trying to hide my emotions.

"What? Why?" I asked trying to hide the shock in my voice.

"You cheated on me," She said looking up at me through her lashes, and I know she's right. She pushed her hair back with her fingers and sighed.

"Is there anything I can do to make it up? So that we're even or something?" I pleaded. She stood there thinking leaving me in agony for those few seconds.

"Well, there is one thing," She smirked. I could tell that she knew that I wanted her to continue.

"I get to kiss Blake with his shirt off," She said with a straight face. And in that moment I'm positive that my mind exploded into thousands of different emotions; anger, confusion, and sorrow, just to name some.

"W-what?" I managed to choke out.

Suddenly she started laughing, "I'm just kidding. You should see your face!" Oh, ok well that's a relief. I let out a relieved sigh and grabbed her wrists. "Hey! Adam let go of me!"

"No, you're mean," I said faking a scowl, "Here I am, trying to get you back and you're just toying with me,"

"Well I bet you've toyed with tons of girls," She spat, and yet again, she is right. I scowled at the way she's making me feel guilty. "And here you are, yelling at me. Right, because I'm the bad guy here? Aren't I?"

"Brooke, no you're not. I'm the bad guy," I said gently as I loosened my grip on her wrists. "I hurt you and I'm sorry. I just want another chance with you."

"I really don't know if you deserve a second chance," Brooke said gingerly and she pulled her wrists away from my loose grasp. "I gotta go now." And I watched her walk away regretting everything that I did. The only thing that mattered now is getting her back.
