Chapter 30

Brooke's POV

I walked into school trying to avoid all the stares and whispers. I'm in my gray sweatpants and a simple t-shirt. Thankfully it was going to be kind of chilly even if it's May; the weather has been all out of whack the whole year. From no rain in December to having it rain last week in May. By now everyone probably knows about what happened, but the only thing I'm curious is about is how Vienna and Shawna rephrased the whole story.

A sophomore wearing skimpy clothes came up to me and I stared at her curiously, "Uh, hi?"

She glared at me and brought her hand up to my cheek. "What the heck! You just slapped me! I don't even know who you are! Why'd you slap me?"

"That was for like, breaking Adam's heart!" She shrilled. Now I'm really curious about what I 'did'.

"What'd I do?" I asked rubbing my cheek.

"You were like, making out with Zac yesterday, and Adam caught you guys," She scowled, "Shouldn't you like, know this? You stupid b*tch,"

She strutted away and I just stood there remembering Adam would probably be waiting at the tree. Someone squealed behind me and I braced myself for another slap for something I didn't do, but it didn't come.

"Brooke! Did you really cheat on Adam? Everyone said you did!" Tiana asked with an out-of-breath Clayton beside her.

"No," I bit my lip.

"Oh ok good. What happened then? Is this another one of Vienna and Shawna's rumors?" Tiana asked.

"Well, it was kinda like the opposite of the rumor," I said looking at the ground.

"Adam cheated on you?" Tiana gasped and I nodded. "Where is he! I'm gonna beat the sh*t out of him for hurting my friend! I'm gonna cut off his pee pee and feed it to him!" I giggled and she stared at me, "What? Why are you laughing?"

"Brooke, why didn't you tell us?" Clayton asked.

"Well. . . I didn't want to interrupt your date," I said pressing my lips together.

"Oh, uh well, tell us everything," Tiana said. I told them the short version of what happened yesterday. Once I was done telling them just about everything, leaving the part where I called over Blake and the little fight, a person clear his throat behind us.

"Adam," Tiana frowned, "I'm gonna make sure you never have kids, so you better run,"

"No! I just need to talk to Brooke," He pleaded. I looked him over, his hair was messed up, but it looked sexy on him; he's wearing sweatpants just like me, but he made it look like he just stepped out of a fashion magazine; his eyes looked kind of puffy, but-. I snapped out of it, I'm not supposed to be thinking about him.

"Tiana it's fine, I kinda need to talk to him too," I said as Adam let out a grateful sigh. We walked to a secluded area and Adam opened his mouth to speak but I placed a finger over his mouth.

"I need to say something first," I said and he nodded.

I pulled out his sweatshirt and handed it to him, "Here's your sweatshirt back. Bye." I turned and walked away, but he grabbed me back.

"I didn't get to talk," He frowned.

"Let go of me," I seethed.

"No," He said still frowning.

"You're hurting me," I said softly and just as I suspected he let go. I took it as my chance to run away.

"D*mnit Brooke! You don't understand!" Adam called after me.

"Neither does anyone else! Everyone thinks I cheated on you," I yelled as he stumbled.

"What?" He said.

"Go away," I cried, "I need to get to class."

                                                                 ------------------------------

"Brooke, are you sitting with us today?" Tiana asked as we walked to lunch.

"No, I just feel like avoiding Adam right now," I shrugged.

"So where are you going to sit?" She asked.

"The garden with Zac," I replied. Maybe it's not the best place, being to place where I first actually talked to Adam, but it's all I've got.

"Oh, ok. Are we still going dress shopping next week?? 'Cause it's fine if you don't want to," Tiana rambled.

"Yea we're still going," I grinned at her and she grinned back.

"Ok, see you later," Tiana said hugging me, "And if you need me, you know where I am,"

We split up and I walked towards the garden, the place that I haven't been in since the beginning of the year. I sat down on the stone bench and opened my lunch.

Adam's POV

I looked around for Brooke. She can't hide forever. Ok maybe I sound like a crazy ex-boyfriend, but Brooke needs to know the truth. I sat down across from Tiana, who is glaring at me, and Clayton.

"Uh, well hi," I said awkwardly at Tiana. "I guess I should tell you guys what happened,"

"Yea," Tiana scoffed, "You had a hot make out session with your crazy ex and Brooke caught you. End of story,"

"No, it's different," I scowled.

"Ok, just tell us. I can't decide which side to pick," Clayton sighed. I started talking telling every detail in excessive detail.

"And that's why I need to talk to Brooke." I said once I finished.

"Oh," Tiana said biting her lip.

"Ok, so do you know where she is?" I asked.

"The-," Tiana started but I cut her off.

"Garden! Why didn't I think of that before," I said as I gathered my stuff and headed off towards the garden.

Brooke's POV

I hear someone walking through the garden and I got up expecting Tiana to come out from behind the sunflowers. But I was wrong. Adam stepped through the flowers, biting his lip.

"Adam get out of here," Zac growled.

"I need to talk to Brooke! I need to explain!" Adam said.

"You need to explain?" I scoffed, "There's nothing to explain."

"Yes there is something to explain if you would just listen to me," Adam pleaded.

"Yea like I'm gonna listen to you if you just walk up to me," I said sarcastically.

"Come on Brooke, let's go," Zac said tugging my arm and I followed him hoping Adam isn't going to follow us.

                                                              ----------------------------------

"We're going shopping!" Tiana sung in a very off key tone.

"Tiana shut up, people are staring," I laughed. It's good to get away from everyone at school and Adam.

"Never!" She grinned.

"Then I won't tell you what color my dress is," I grinned back.

"Your mom started it," Tiana said raising an eyebrow.

"Yup, she's back in town along with my brothers," I grinned.

"Tell me the color!" Tiana whined.

"It's going to be white," I smiled.

"It's gonna look so pretty on you," Tiana gushed, "Oh look we're here!"

We entered the door to the shop and entered. Racks of dresses lined the wall, from top to bottom. We looked through the racks picking out an occasional dress. Once Tiana had an armful of colorful dresses we walked to the dressing rooms. She opened the curtain and stepped out in a frilly pink mess.

"Why'd we even pick that?" I laughed. Tiana rolled her eyes and went back to try on the rest of the dresses. Finally we were left with only one dress left.

"What if we never find a dress?" Tiana frowned.

"Just go try on the last one," I rolled my eyes. She went back into the room and then stepped out in a strapless, royal purple dress with a high low skirt. The color brought out her dark hair and the skirt made her look a bit taller. It had a cinched sweetheart neckline with flowers and beads near it.

"It's perfect," Tiana sighed. "Plus it's on sale, only a hundred dollars,"

"Ok, go change. We need to pay and get shoes," I grinned as Tiana happily walked back into the dressing room.
