On the last night of the year, we all decided to do something interesting and fun. I got Rauf bhai to send mama and baba on dinner outside as they rarely spent time alone anymore with Rauf bhai's wedding functions just 'around the corner', that's what mama said even though we still have two months left. Rumaisa managed to get aunty and uncle leave the house too and have some time for themselves. Later I found out that both sets of parents might have went to the same restaurant. With permission from our parents, since we were still their kids and what we had planned to do might be a little against our culture as Rumaisa and Rauf bhai's rukhsati wasn't done yet even if they were nikkahfied already, we gathered up at Ahad's parents' house. We didn't plan to do anything to extravagant, just some downtime with the youngest generation of the family. I dressed down in a solid grey shalwar kameez with a dupatta which was the color of an eggplant. Ahad threw on a grey t-shirt with blank pants and the matching outfits were purely coincidentally.

We had driven over to the Iftikhar house earlier today and sat outside with the other two couples in the garden, talking about things here and there as we snacked on finger foods and strawberries. Strawberries were undoubtedly one of the best fruits to exist and made wintertime so much better and I was thankful to Rauf bhai for having brought some over with him when he came. A gas heater was lit next to the table we were sitting at, keeping us warm in the cold weather. After mutual agreement, we all decided to act like teenagers again and play song charades. It was Sameer bhai's turn so he acted out a song while we all held the most confused expressions ever. He wasn't really good at acting but that just made it all the more fun. Zoha appi was face palming next to him as his teammate which made me laugh out.

Out of the blue, the guys cleared out the table and chairs and decided to play cricket as we sat on the stairs at the doorstep of the house and watched them, cheering. Ahad was batting as Rauf bhai bowled and Sameer bhai stood at the far end of the garden, fielding. Bhai and baba are huge fans of cricket so they often forced me and mama to watch with them as we ate some snacks in the living room. I made a warm cup of hot chocolate for myself and held the mug between two hands to absorb the heat from the mug. I was feeling a little colder than usual so I wrapped my dupatta around my shoulders. Zoha Appi was sitting on my right and Rumaisa on her other side. Her head was resting on Rumaisa's shoulder as she gently rubbed her arms.

The guys packed up their cricket equipment and flopped down on the step below the one we were sitting on. Ahad leaned back and placed his head on my knees as he smiled at me. I set my cup aside next to me and ran a hand through his hair. He took a loose end of my dupatta and wiped his forehead even though he wasn't sweating at all, he couldn't have with the cold breeze blowing.

"Tired?" I softly asked him as I moved his hair to the side to expose his forehead and he closed his eyes, humming.

"I would really like a cup of chai right now." He mumbled and before I could reply, bhai cleared his throat.

"Ahad, you do realize her brother is right here, right?" He raised an eyebrow and all of us laughed. His own arm was wrapped around Rumaisa's shoulder as he decided to sit down next to her.

"Yeah, and your wife happens to be my sister." Ahad shot back with a smug grin and Rumaisa looked away shyly.

"Alright, I'll go make tea for all of you." I nudged Ahad to get off me and he leaned forward, allowing me to get up and walk inside.

I took out a small pot and let the water boil. In the meantime, Zoha Appi came and stood next to me.

"Do you need any assistance?" She offered and I shrugged.

"Appi, it's just tea. I can make that myself. You should've stayed outside."

"They were boring so I decided to keep you company here." She stood next to me and Rumaisa came in as well. Being taller than both of us, she wrapped her arms around our shoulders and stood in the middle.

"Anything for me to do?" She asked no one specifically.

"You could set up the cups and the sugar pot," I told her as I stirred the tea one last time and took out a small strainer to pour it through.

"The smell is making me drool already." Zoha Appi admitted as she sucked in another breath. Both of them moved aside and let me carry the tray outside.

The guys had put up the table again and sat around it as I placed the tray in the middle and sat down between Ahad and Rauf bhai.

"You're not drinking?" Bhai asked me and I shook my head. "I already had hot chocolate earlier, I was feeling cold."

"I left my phone inside, let me get it." Zoha Appi announced and went inside.

"Excuse me." I pushed my chair back and went inside. I had been getting light cramps for the past few minutes so I went to the washroom in our room to check.

By the time I came out, Zoha Appi came out of her room too. She had her phone in her hand and it looked like she texting someone so she didn't notice me and went down the stairs.

Everything seemed to slow down as I saw her missing the first step. Thankfully, I was standing close by so I grabbed her arm and pulled her aside. During the action, I lost my own balance and felt my foot slipping as I fell down with a shriek.

"Bhabhi!" Her scream was all I heard before I blacked out.
