Jimmy sits beside me as I cry, looking through photos of Hailey and I. We had been best friends since middle school, since Hailey even moved to this town. "What if they never find her?" I ask brokenly, "what if she's..." I can't bring myself to say the word out loud.

"She's not dead," Jimmy tells me, wrapping his arm securely around me. I feel him kiss my head as I  lean against him. "We're going to get Hailey back," he says surely. I nod my head, not really believing him. He pulls my chin up with one finger, tilting my head so I'm looking at him. "We will," he repeats. My stomach flutters.

I don't know who made the first move. Maybe it was because I needed a distraction or perhaps he was taking advantage of my moment of weakness but our lips found each other's. He ran his fingers through my long hair as I wrap my arms around his shoulder, pulling him closer. However, the kiss does not last long.

After a moment I realize how wrong this is. I pull back, "Hailey likes you. I can't do this to her."

"I know but I've always liked you."

The butterflies no longer flutter in my gut. Instead the guilt rips off their wings. Hailey is out there somewhere in who knows what kind of condition and here I am making moves on her crush. I am a terrible friend. I should be out looking for her.

I am so sorry, Hailey. I will find you. I will fucking find you.
