Listen to the song on the side as you read the chapter. Also, read the authors note in its entirety at end of this chapter. It's some important stuff that I need your guys input on. Thanks!

I gave the driver a twenty before I rushed out of the yellow taxi. The salt they spread across the road crunched under my feet as I quickly hurried to the entrance of the police station. A million things were racing through my head. What did Tobias do? Was he hurt? What does this all mean for his heart?  I pulled my hair back as I raced to the front desk. The desk sergeant looked up at me with boredom.

"Here to bail someone out?" She asked in a monotone voice, looking everywhere but me.

"Yes!" I exclaimed without meaning to. "Tobias Sorensen. What is he being held for?"

This caught her attention. She chuckled before nodding. "Mr. I'm-a-famous-boxer? That guy is hilarious, the best company we had all night. Follow me."

My mouth was slightly gaped open as I followed her. What was her odd behavior about? And how come she didn't tell me what Tobias did? The curiosity was killing me. She led me down a long hallway with many doors until she led me down a smaller hallway. From here I could hear two male voices arguing.

"When I get my hands on you-"

"You'll what? You barely managed to get a punch in!"

My blood ran cold as I heard Tobias's voice. Was he fighting again? Did he really not care for his health? I scowled as I saw him standing behind a cell, his head leaning against the bars as his hands clutched them tightly. I could see some fresh cuts around his knuckles and I knew he was fighting again.

For some reason, this angered me. It was like he was doing everything in his power to kill himself faster. I mean, he admitted to still use heroin even after he was given his death sentence. But then he didn't do anything to help himself. He still fought professionally, he still smoked, though now he claims he quit. I let out a dry chuckle. I was in love with a fucking maniac.

My laugh made Tobias raise his head immediately. He looked terrible. He had deep bags under his eyes which made me wonder if he was stable enough to be up. His hair wasn't in its normal styled position but instead it was messy and it fell over his forehead. He looked like he was a completely different person. He no longer looked like that strong and charismatic Tobias I once knew. Instead, a distant and dirty boy filled his shoes.

"Reign," I heard him breath in relief. "I'm so glad you're here."

I snapped my eyes away from him and on to the policeman on watch. He held out a clipboard in front of me and gave me a list of instructions to do. As he was doing this, the desk sergeant was telling Tobias of how he needed to behave himself. I glanced over at him and he wasn't paying attention to her at all. He was pushed up against the bars of the cell, waiting to be free. Instead, his eyes were fixed on me. The intensity of his stare caused a jolt to pass through me. At that moment, it felt like it was just us two, nobody else.

"Mr. Sorensen? Did you understand?" The desk sergeant said, making Tobias come back to reality.

He looked at the desk sergeant as if he never saw her before. His eyebrows were scrunched up in confusion as he looked at her and then back at me. It was like he was in another place when he was looking at me. My heart raced at the thought. What did he see when saw me? Tobias nodded his head and the desk sergeant led him out the cell. He tried to come at me at once, but the desk sergeant held him back.

"Follow me son. You have paperwork to fill out too," she said, her stare looking cold as ever.

"Once second. I just need to-"

"Mr. Sorensen!" She retorted in an authoritative voice. "Do you want to go back into holding?"

Tobias clenched his jaw as he stared at her. He brushed passed her and walked the opposite direction, leaving me with the other people in holding. I got a good look at the other guy he was arguing with and he was passed out. I scrunched my nose. He smelled like alcohol and I'm pretty sure Tobias must be too.

After completing the last bit of paperwork, I gave the clipboard back to the officer and made my way back to the front of the station. I saw Tobias with a deep scowl on his face as he signed multiple sheets of paper, not bothering to read any of them. I stayed behind so that I could admire him from afar. His posture was terrible. Was it always like that? Though he was left handed, he leaned on his right foot more. There were so many little things I never noticed about him and I feared in the future I wasn't going to get the chance to.

"Is that all?" He asked, sliding the sheets of paper away from him.

The desk sergeant matched his angry face as she handed him the plastic baggy filled with his possessions. He placed his wallet, phone, and keys in his back pocket. He rubbed his eyes sleepily before walking back into the hallway. He stopped when he saw me waiting by the door.

He sighed when he saw me. It looked like he was a lost puppy who finally found his owner after a long harsh winter. He came over to me and swallowed me into a hug. He leaned down and snugged his head into the crook of my neck. As much as I wanted to ignore the swarm of bees flying in my stomach I couldn't. I caved as I always do when I'm around him. After what seemed like forever I placed my hand around his head, massaging his hair. My other hand wrapped around his waist and I swear I heard a sob escape his lips.

The ride back in the cab was long and quiet. We were both sitting too close to the window. The space between us was not only physically there, but it was mentally as well. My eyes were staring down at my belly, my thoughts about my unborn child. I wanted to share my experience with Tobias, to tell him that my child, our child was healthy. I wanted him to know that there was a creature inside of me that we made, together.

But as I glanced up at him he was lost in his own thoughts. With his head leaning against the window, he looked...lost. I ached to know what ran through his damaged mind. I wanted to know why he was arrested in the first place. Sighing, I looked back down at my lap. I didn't have it in me to fuss with him tonight. I was tired and my feet were killing me. I just wanted to take a long hot bath and go to sleep.

"Pull over here," I heard Tobias say.

Sleepily, I looked up and saw we were outside the bar we met many months ago. He pulled out his wallet, took out a couple of twenty's before giving it to the driver, and closed the door without a word. The heart thumped as I saw him walk into the bar. My skin began to burn with anger. The cabbie was saying something to me but I couldn't make out what he was saying. Angrily, I got out the car and slammed the door behind me. I stomped into the bar and looked around for Tobias. I saw him walking straight to the bartender and that's when I had enough.

"Tobias!" I yelled, my voice dripping with venom. He turned around and I saw a frown approach his face.

"Come on, we're going home," I told him, walking up to him. I grabbed his forearm to only have it ripped out of my grasp. I scowled at him, not in the mood to fight.

"Tobias," I growled, growing frustrated. "You should be home-"

"For what?" He snorted, sitting on the bar stool. "There's nothing there for me."

He signaled the bartender to come over and I gave him a glare. "You're sick, you should be resting and-"

Tobias laughed. "You don't get it Reign. I'm dying! I'm dying and there's-"

"Don't," I stopped him, my voice cutting off towards the end. "Don't say there's nothing you can't do! Julian said himself that you can get a heart transplant-"

Tobias dismissed me, waving his hand as he turned around to drink his drink. I was fuming with anger now. I snatched his drink out of his hand and splashed at him. He sucked in deeply as the water made contact with his face. I turned around and pushed the doors to the bar with hostility. I stepped to the curb and waved my hand around, waiting for a cab. I shivered as the wind began to pick up. They warned us about a snowstorm coming soon and I planned on staying home. But of course, something came up.

"Reign," I heard Tobias growl.

I snapped my head at him. His sweater was covered with alcohol and you can faintly see some alcohol on his scruffy beard. His face was displaying a range of emotions from anger to disappointment.

"I take time to bail you out of jail, to help you go home, and you bite my head off. Why? Why are you doing this to yourself?" I yelled, my body shaking from anger. "Why are you doing this to me...to us?"

I stepped in front of him so that he could see how serious I was being. I looked up at him with pure disgust. "Not once have you asked about our unborn child. You haven't even acknowledged it!"

Tobias clenched his jaw, tilting his head to the side so that he didn't have to face me. I could see him fighting with himself as I stood in front of him and I wondered why the hell he would do that.

I chuckled as I realized what was happening all along. He was just like any other boy. As soon as he knocks a girl up he dumps her to the side. I began walking backwards, shaking my head. How could I have been such a fool?

"You know what? You're worse than you father," I spat, feeling beyond betrayed right now. "Though your father hated you, beat you, did God knows what else, he still took care of you. He didn't leave you on the fucking streets as a newborn. He didn't drop you off at the nearest foster care. He hated you and he still took care of you and you can't even ask how our baby is."

I shook my head. Tobias still didn't say anything. In fact he looked even more aggravated and ready to get out my face. And there was nothing I could do now. Nothing I could say was going to make him change his mind.

"This is the last time Tobias," I said, waving my hand out for a taxi while looking straight at him. "This is the last time I'm going to be tangled in your web. If you walk away now I'm done."

Tobias snapped his eyes up at me. I expected to see something but all I was greeted with was an emotionless face. My skin crawled as I saw him turn around and enter the bar. My heart felt like somebody has just snatched it out of my chest and began stomping on it right in front of me. But I refused to cry. I wouldn't. I placed my hands around my belly as I sat in the taxi.

I had to be strong now. Not for me, but for my baby.
