I had no words after what Lisa dropped on me. I continued grabbing files for her until it was time to leave. There was nothing different about my tasks, but I knew some type of punishment would come soon from Lisa. She didn't seem like the type to let tardiness slide. Once I was off, I hurried out of the building, praying I didn't bump into Roman. I didn't know what I would say to him honestly. I was so pissed. Thankfully, I didn't run into him and was able to leave without confrontation, and the entire way home, I was just thinking about what I would say to him once I saw him again. At the moment, I had no idea.

Walking into my apartment, I sighed as all my energy left me and walked past the living room to my room, to find Davis making out with a woman I've never seen before.

"Take it to your room, Davis." I interrupted their session and he looked up at me, grinning. The woman gave me a smile and I nodded at her as they walked past. Davis saluted me before disappearing around the corner, making me shake my head. I was glad he was distracted though because I didn't really want to talk about what I just found out. I had been updating Davis about the whole situation, but this was honestly something I wanted to keep to myself for now. My after work routine was simple and I breezed through it, taking a shower, snacking, and even answering a few emails before preparing dinner.

After I ate, I sat on one of the couches in the living room and dove into my current read for the month. There was no one here to interrupt the peace since Davis left with his latest conquest. I guess Nathan didn't work out. I was barely a page into my book, when my phone started ringing. Groaning, I grabbed it and glanced at the caller ID. I immediately put it down and let it ring when I saw that it was Roman. I didn't want to speak to him right now. I still didn't know what I would say to him. We couldn't do anything together anymore, which was the reason for getting to know each other. We could be friends, but I wasn't sure if I even wanted to at this point.

The call ended and I released the tension I was holding in my shoulders. My phone chimed and I knew it was him, but I couldn't help myself as I grabbed my phone and looked at the message. It was indeed Roman, the message saying to call him back when I had the time. I scoffed and tossed the phone back on the couch. I just wanted to enjoy my weekend off and read books. So that was what I did for the rest of the night.

The next morning, my phone kept ringing and I groaned, blindly patting around for it with closed eyes. When I found it, I answered it without looking at the caller ID.

"What?" I snapped at whoever was on the other end of the line.

"I'm at your door." Roman's voice had my sleepy eyes snapping open and I shot up in bed.

"Why are you here?" I asked, throwing the covers off my body and slid out of bed, steadying myself when I started swaying. It was still dim in my room because my curtains were closed, but I glanced at the time anyway.

6:20 a.m.

Roman started talking, but I didn't hear him over my own cursing.

"It's not even seven in the morning and you're at my front door on the weekend? You must be out of your mind. I'm going back to bed."

"Wait, it's important. I wouldn't be here this early otherwise." His words stopped me from getting back under my sheets and I sighed.

"Fine." I trudged to the front door and opened it, revealing Roman. His hair wasn't slicked back like normal, and it was actually on the wilder side, black waves everywhere as it fanned his face. He was dressed down in a black t-shirt and sweats. He still looked good much to my chagrin. His eyes assessed me as well, taking in my bare legs, only an oversized t-shirt covering my body. I would have welcomed his stare before yesterday. Today, I didn't.

"Are you going to let me in?" Roman asked, raising a brow. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Were you ever going to tell me that Lisa is your girlfriend?"

His mouth opened to respond but closed quickly. Shock etched his features, and I rolled my eyes, stepping to the side to make room for him to enter.

"Who told you that?" he asked as I locked the door. Of course, that would be the first question he asked.

"Lisa told me herself because she thought I wanted to fuck you," I answered him as I made my way back to my room. I was still tired and wasn't going to let him stop my body from relaxing. "Follow me, Davis is here, and I don't want him to hear any of this."

He followed me to my room, and I closed the door behind him. I thought I heard him curse under his breath at what I told him, but I could just be hearing things.

"You do, though." He didn't even confirm or deny my accusation, only dwelling on the latter of what I said. I got back in bed, yanking the covers over my bottom half, and sat up. I gestured in front of me, allowing him to sit on my bed.

"Not anymore. What happened to trust, huh? We barely got to know each other, and you don't even tell me the most important thing. This started because we wanted to sleep with each other. I can't do that if you have a girlfriend." I stabbed my sheets with my fingers in emphasis, trying my best to keep my temper down. I didn't want to yell, but I did want to get my point across. Roman's jaw ticked and he rubbed a hand down his face, letting out a breath.

"I wasn't going to keep it from you. I was going to tell you eventually when I got to know you better." He tried to explain, but I scoffed, earning myself a glare.

"When were you going to tell me then? After you fucked me? When you got what you wanted? You just wanted another conquest like Diane, didn't you?" I sneered at him, forgetting about keeping my temper in check. His blue eyes flickered, annoyance gracing his pretty face.

"Don't you dare compare yourself to Diane." he hissed, making all the anger leave me, shock at his tone replacing it. "She sleeps with anything that has legs."

"Why did you sleep with her then, since you seem to be so disgusted with her actions. Her actions are her business, by the way. If she wants to fuck every single person at work, that's her prerogative." I crossed my arms and nodded at him to speak.

"You're right." he sighed, glancing to the side before running a hand through his messy waves. "Well, since we're being honest. Lisa won't sleep with me anymore, which is fine. I just need to get it from somewhere else now. What happened between me and Diane was a one time thing, I won't do it again." He was looking at me now, eyes roaming my face, probably trying to gauge my mood, my reaction. Nothing he said changed my mind.

"So, cheating on your girlfriend is your solution to your sex problem? Why not just break up with her, problem solved." I asked, rolling my eyes. That was literally the easiest solution to his problem. He let out a humorless chuckle that had my brows bunching.

"Easier said than done." He mumbled under his breath, but loud enough for me to hear.

"Either way, I can't sleep with a man that has a girlfriend." I thought about the words that were about to come out of my mouth before speaking again. "We'll just have to settle for being friends." I shrugged, adjusting my position under my sheets. He still seemed like a decent enough guy despite his personal decisions.

"What if I want more?" he asked in a tone that almost had me crossing my legs. I fought the urge to bite my lip. He has a girlfriend, I reminded myself.

"Is my friendship not enough?" If he was going to be ungrateful, I would just revoke that as well. He chuckled.

"Of course, it is. But if we could have more and enjoy each other's presence the way we really want, why not? It wouldn't be a relationship, but a partnership where we're friends, but can still enjoy each other's company." There was a wicked glint in his eyes that had me smiling before I could stop myself. I see why he was a successful businessman.

"Roman, did you not hear a word I said?" I was going to say more, but he interrupted me.

"I don't love Lisa. She's the one who told me to find someone else to have sex with." He huffed, face scrunching in annoyance as he thought about his words. "Our relationship is one of convenience. A business relationship. I was basically forced to get with her." He explained and I shook my head, scoffing.

"That, is the best excuse I've ever heard. How long did it take you to come up with that one?" I sank lower into my pillows, not believing I woke up for this conversation. I just wanted it to end already. He didn't answer me right away, and something in his eyes made me pay attention. Was that, pain?

"My father wouldn't give me the position of CEO unless I dated Lisa." His words woke up the curiosity in me.

"What's so special about Lisa?" I asked, sitting up. Roman noted the change in my position and his stiff shoulders relaxed.

"She's an heir to a billion dollar company, a rival company, and me dating her and having her work for us keeps me, mainly my father, in the loop of what's happening with the company. Lisa is in on it as well. She hates her father, he's even worse than mine." He finished speaking and I was honestly surprised. When I accused him of using that as an excuse, I didn't think it would be anything like this. I decided to believe him. It was way too specific for it to be a lie. Unless he was a master liar. I didn't respond to what he told me right away, and instead stared at him, so many questions going through my head. I held my hand out to him. He looked at it quizzically, but grabbed my hand anyway.

"So, friends?" I arched a brow, waiting for his answer. He would have to take it or leave it. He smirked at me, squeezing my hand.

"Friends it is."
