Chapter Ten
-Déjà Vu-
~~~~
:: The Next day, November 3rd ::
(Dyme's Pov)
Rolling up to the location and actually spotting him outside, I honked my horn to get his attention. He turned around in seconds, catching me off guard by his....attractive positioning.
He came up to the car shortly after and got into the passenger side. "Hey...good morning"
"Morning" I gave him a friendly smile.
I watched him blush as he tried to get his seatbelt on. But really, I was in such a good mood. Its my 23rd birthday which I was blessed to even see, I'm about to go see my son who I miss so much. I got my hair done and I just feel so damn good.
"Hmm, you look beautiful today. What's with the get up today or is that just you everyday?"
"Thanks and no, it's actually my birthday. So yeah I'm kind of feelin' myself today" I chuckled, putting on some soft background music before pulling off.
"Oh, happy birthday girl. How old are you?"
"23..." I glanced at him just for a second before focusing back on the road.
"Oh okay. Cool..."
"Yeah..."
It grew silent in the small car, leaving the sound of us rolling take over in the atmosphere. It was nice that we could be friends after all the negative shit that went down years ago. I still held a little grudge, if I'm being honest but not enough to be unreasonable with him. Sure, he f'ed up a lot of things for me but Malik also blessed me in a way. He gave me James and that made the pain worth it.
And why be angry anymore when he's the one who has to live with that guilt,...he's the one that gotta make that time up with his son. And today, he's finally going to start.
:: 4 hours later ::
"Diya!" he yelled, running up to me as I showed my face to the small crowd.
I bent down and caught him in my arms, hugging his little pre-teenage body like I haven't seen him in ages. "Hey, you miss me"
"Yeah, I'm so happy you came"
"Aww, I wouldn't have missed this for the world, you know I always keep my promises"
I released him and stood up straight again to finger through his curls. "Happy birthday boo"
"Happy birthday Diya" he smiled up at me.
I turned my head back to Malik, who was so shy it seemed to come up a little closer. I gave him the hand signal to come here and turned James and myself in his direction.
"Ja this is Malik, a...cousin of mine that I want you to meet. He's been wanting to meet you" I said, introducing them.
"Hi" James waved from my side.
"Hey, happy birthday little man. How old are you?" Malik asked, coming up to him.
"Eleven..."
"Aye that's cool. You play golf huh?"
"Yeah, I just learned it at my new sports club in my school. Its pretty cool"
"Wow, what other sports do you play?"
"Hmm, well I play golf..., basketball, soccer, baseball--" he walked up to him, counting on his finger.
"You think you can show me how to play golf. I neva played it before"
"Yeah sure. Just don't get mad if I beat you a couple rounds" James laughed.
Malik sucked his teeth. "Ha well see little man. I like you already"
I was having a good time at the miniature golf course with the boys, James could really play a good game too. I was so proud of my talented baby.
His father on the other hand wasn't such a pro like his son however. A couple of his shots landed right into the water amusingly. But James lended him a helping hand, even fishing some of the balls that were in the small ponds.
Other from the boys and I playing the game, I forgot to mention that my family was also here in celebration. Its been a year or so since I talked to my mom and dad, I couldn't even remember the last time I talked to my sister Mariah. I couldn't even believe she was here actually, she never showed interest in James since he was days old. She treated him like a complete outsider just because of her beef with me. Childish and beyond petty.
But you know what, I think it's time that I just put all the b.s. with my family aside and give it a rest. They're my family.....my own blood. That's more than enough reason to settle our differences. In the sake of a new age and a new and positive me.
"Heyy there go my big eleven year old!" I yelled happily, taking his picture for the gram later.
"I'm a go say hi to the fam okay, I'll be back" I told him.
"Okay" he responded as we both went our separate ways.
Walking down the small hill and on to the grass, I made my way to the cook out section. Turning a few head as I came up to my mom and dad. "Hey...mom and ..daddy"
"Hi honey" My dad spoke first. "Happy birthday to you too, don't think I forgot my daughter's birthday because she hasn't called me in years"
I laughed lightly. "I'm sorry I been so distant from you guys. I was going through a lot back in Miami, a lot of new changes you know. But I really missed you guys and I appreciate everything you've done to help James have a better childhood"
My mom smiled and rushed up to hug me. "We missed you so much baby girl, especially me. You mind if we have a minute Darnell, I need to catch up with my twin" she said making us both chuckle.
When my dad left us to talk alone, my mom pulled me aside to take a little walk.
"Diya look, I'm sorry for the last time we talked before the move. You were right about everything, but I just.....I just didn't want to give up yet another joy in my life. James is my pride and joy too, you know. But he's your son and I should've stayed in my place. I just loved having him around and raising him. I didn't have all the time in the world to raise my girls because of work. I missed out on being a mother and I selfishly took away your kid, hoping I could....get another chance at that. I'm so sorry, I wasn't being reasonable and I was selfish. You had every right to take him and give me attitude that day. I just hope we can get past this Diya, I still love you. You'll always be my little baby girl" she smiled at me.
"I appreciate that mom, thank you. Thank you for...turning him into the little boy we know and love today. And I can understand your point, and sure we can get past this. I forgave you already"
"Thank you. If you don't mind me asking, who's the *whispers* hot stud over there?"
"Mom really?" I laughed. "That's Ja's biological father. Remember him?"
Her eyes widened. "That's the same boy who didn't wanna support you two? And he's here at his birthday party?"
"Yeah, he finally apologized to me about ditching us when we were kids. I forgave him and he wanted to meet his son finally. And now they're over there bonding. It feels so good that they're finally together"
"Wow, that's a beautiful thing. I guess people can change..." we both stared at the boys playing.
"Yeah, and um-I have a little girl now of my own" I told her.
"What? You had another child?!"
"Yeah, that's what I've been dealing with back at home. I'm sorry I'm just now telling you but yeah. I had a baby girl, I named her Desiree Aaliyah Taylor" I smiled.
"Aww, I love the name. My grandbaby Desiree, why didn't you bring her?"
"Her father offered to watch her so me and Ja could spend time. Here I'll show you a picture" I pulled out my phone.
"Who's her father anyways?" she leaned in.
"Mmm, my ex boyfriend. Remember Jacob?"
"How could I forget my daughter's future husband. Who you never introduced me to yet.....oh my god she's adorable" she cooed.
"Isn't she? I can't get enough of that little girl, she'll melt your heart mom"
"Awww, she's so precious. You need to bring her down next time, I have got to meet my grandbaby"
"What grandbaby mama?" Mariah suddenly came up to us, overhearing our conversation.
Once she saw me, we both looked into each other's eyes like wolves. That is until she spoke to me. "Sister..."
"Sister..." I mocked her.
"How are you?"
"Great actually" I smiled.
"That's good. So what's this I hear about a new baby or something?" she turned to our mom.
"Diya had a new baby and it's a girl!" My mom cheered and took the phone out of my hand just to show her. "Isn't she adorable"
"Awww, she is quite....cute sis" Mairah looked up. ...wow.
"Wow um-thanks. I thought you didn't like my children though. Why now all of a sudden you do?" I asked, folding my arms.
"I was just being nice Diynara chill. We haven't talked in years and I don't wanna argue with you. I just said you gotta cute kid" she confronted me, sounding offended.
"Preciate it..." I shrugged it off.
"Girls be nice! I'm so tired of y'all arguing, just get over it already" Mom said.
"Oh I'm over it..." I said confidently.
"Apparently not if you coming at my throat when I gave you a compliment" she said in a snarky tone and folded her arms.
"And clearly I apologized for it when I said "Preciate it". Don't get smart with me"
"Don't get smart with me! You forgot I'm older huh? You think you big girl Diya now with ya man, kids and shit" ...I like how she thought Malik's sexy-ass was my man. She sounded really intimidated by that😩😆
"Mariah!" Mommy yelled.
"Ha. You must've forgotten who I am, I'm still that same "little" girl that called you a bitch and smacked you across the face in front of all yo little wack-ass friends. You learned not to disrepect me after that one though" I said boldly.
"Diya! Stop it....both of you! That's enough or I'm a embarrass both of you at this damn party. Comprende?"
"Mama she the one who always starting shit--"
"I just don't like fake-ass people" I clarified.
"Oh so now I'm fake? Just because I gave your daughter a compliment?"
"Yeah whatever Mariah. I don't got time to be arguing with you over this nonsene, baby girl. It's my birthday and my son just turned eleven. Preciate you trying though" I walked away. ...I always get the last word bitch💯😌
