Francy's p.o.v

The inside of the house was dark as the daylight in the sky was shortened by the heavy grey clouds.

Rain was pouring like it was doom's day and the wind was howling like a wolf trying to blow the house down of the three little piglets.

The noise in the house was made just by sheer storm, ravaging outside.

We all sat on the dining room chairs, wrapped in blankets watching the mess outside. Sole seemed bit distracted, while Remi was enjoying the peace that came inside with the chaos outside.

How long was this storm going to last we had plans and...

Suddenly a sound like a heavy crash pierced my ears.

It was so scary, so rattling and I'm pretty sure the crash was coming from outside.

Remi and Sole were visibly alarmed as well. Sole pushed her blanket off and got up first.

We both followed, sticking our noses to the veranda door glass.

That's where the horror struck us. The greenhouse was in total tatters.

The giant tree that was providing a nice shadow for us every day, the tree Remi and I had joked about making a treehouse on one day, the very same that was our pride, had crashed on top of the greenhouse.

Its roots yanked out from the ground branches, piercing through the shattered glass.

I barely held in my scream.

"Oh no, no no." Remi covered her mouth tears welling up in her eyes. "The glass is broken. Everything on the rooftop is broken."

"Don't worry, didn't you buy spare parts for the already broken windows?" Sole asked.

A jolt pierced my heart. "I left the extras in the glass garden." I sunk down on my knees. "I thought they'd be safest there as the glass garden was next on the list after today."

"Noo.! Nooooo.!" Remi stomped and started sobbing. "The glass garden is supposed to be our key move. The cherry on top of this project. What are we doing to do?!"

My head started calculating our budget. Even if we had enough money to buy what we need, there wouldn't be enough to cover the expenses of someone getting the tree off and fixing it for us. This was way out of anyone's capabilities.

I stormed upstairs and tossed myself on the bed crying. How the hell did this happen?

After a good crying session, I came back downstairs. The storm had calmed down, the house was silent once again except for the soft sound of rain.

The house was dark, except for the dimmed yellow light coming from the kitchen.

I had almost missed seeing Sole, who was on the couch, covered with the blanket all the way up to her nose, sleeping.

I searched for Remi, making my way to the kitchen. She was cooking dinner, looking down at the pot and stirring. She was not in a good mood.

"Hey," I said

She turned around and gave me a sad smile. "Hey."

I didn't know what to say. This was just too heartbreaking. We were so excited about the greenhouse, as it was the last piece of the puzzle. After putting it together we would get to go home, but now with no way of fixing it...why were we even here?

"Want some juice?" She asked politely.

I shook my head in denial. "Any coffee?"

She took the coffee pot and poured some in a mug.

It wasn't that hot, but it was enough to do the trick for my wounded heart.

I dragged a chair out and sat down. "What are we going to do Remi?"

She leaned on the counter. "I don't know." Tears were forming at the corner of her eyes again. "I really wanted to decorate the greenhouse.I really...I"

"Me too." I tried to push my tears back.

"I.."She started sobbing. "I.." She pressed her wrists over her eyes. "I just wanna go home, but not like this. This is too sad."

I walked over and hugged her.

She hugged me back, crying over my shoulder.

I rubbed her back, tears falling from my eyes no matter how much I tried to stop them.

Suddenly we were wrapped in a blanket.

I looked up through my blurry vision to see Sole wrapping us up in her blanket like a burrito. She was still a bit sleepy, but she was taking care of us and trying to comfort us in her own way.

I no longer had any control over my emotions. I was half laughing, half crying.

Sole nudged us towards the chairs and then she ran to the stove, mixing the dinner and then started making us tea.

She brought the mugs down in front of us and gave us a comforting smile.

"Thank you." I said bringing the mug closer and she just patted my back and sat on the opposite chair.

" The house is already done. The journal still needs work for the presentation, but without the green house we no longer need to be here." I turned towards Remi. "If you want to go home.."

She sighed. "I want to but.. uh..I don't wanna go back, if you still wanna stay here."

I bit my lower lip. Maybe it wasn't fair transferring the decision back to her. "I don't see how I can stay here and continue seeing the greenhouse in that form. I'll cry every day."

Remi nodded. "Me too."

What should we do? Was leaving earlier something right? I was so confused about what to do.

Sole took our hands. "If you can't stay here, then you must go home. Your journey has ended."

"But you'll be left here alone." I whimpered.

"And what about the bakery?" Remi added.

She shook her head. "What's important it's only your choice. If you think there's nothing to be done here, then you must move on. You've already done so much here, but it's also necessary to know when to end things despite how difficult it is."

I squeezed her hand, but she replied with a soft comforting smile.

After a pause between us all, I spoke. "Alright. I'll call dad and talk to him tomorrow."

SUNDAY

LAST DAY AT THE HOUSE

I zipped the last suitcase and brought it downstairs.

I was happy to be going home, but my heart was slowly shattering as I had to leave the house without finishing it with the original plan.

The day, the accident happened, I had called dad and told him that we had managed to finish the house on time, without mentioning the greenhouse knowing he was against us working on it. But like he knew something was wrong, he told me not to worry about anything and to come home.

Remi and I had even went to apologize to Mr. and Mrs. Silvan but they were kind as always saying they were happy to have us even if it was for one month.

Tim was sad to see us go, but we agreed to stay in touch. Lea was crying along with us, saying we must visit again.

Leaving this town was on my mind for so long. I loved it here, but it was hard when I constantly missed everything about home. What kept me going was the thought of accomplishing something and coming home with pride.

Now, that I was packing to leave without completing the original idea,  was tugging on my heartstrings, like a sad ending to what seemed like a story full of hope.

Remi was going over everything on the list, making sure we don't forget anything. She wasn't in a better mood either.

Sole who was going over the journal, got off the couch and showed me the picture she was staring at.

"You guys never finished the paint room? Weren't you going to make it an office?"

I smiled. "You made the room so pretty with all your paintings, that we decided to just take a picture of it as it is, and put it in the journal. It was part of our life here."

I closed the journal and put it in the backpack. After zipping it up I turned towards her. "You can call me anytime of the day. You can come and paint anytime, Remi is going to leave you with the spare keys. Just make sure, you take care of the house. The moment you're free you should come and visit us."

She smiled. "You told me this for the hundredth time this morning."

"I know." I laughed. "I know. I just.." I hugged her. "I'm going to miss you."

Remi ran over, jumping in the hug. "Mee too. I'm going to miss you too."

The door knocked and Kai and Elric walked in.

I didn't even hear them coming.

"Hello!" Elric had a giant grin plastered on his handsome face. "You keep hugging, I'll just do my thing. " Elric took the bags immediately, Kai right behind him taking what was left. They wasted no time.

Breaking up the hug we headed to the door, helping them carry all the stuff outside.

I had called Elric right after talking to dad, to tell him I was coming home earlier because the house was done. He was so happy and ecstatic that I was coming home earlier,  that mentioning the greenhouse just stayed unsaid. I was going to tell him later, but I wanted to at least let him celebrate along with Kai that we were going home.

He was so happy, he promised he will get up early and drive Remi and I home. I hoped I could hide my disappointment long enough.

After packing everything in the car, we hugged Sole one last time.

"I'll call you when we get home." I told her.

"I'll answer the phone here." She smiled then hugged Remi too.

Waving at her as we drove off, I sunk down on the car seats and stared outside the window, at the golden field I passed every time I went to work.
