Maddox carries me down the hall towards his room stopping at the door. "I'll be taking you against this door soon." He states, opening the door.

"Against the door?" I ask, not believing what he just said.

"Yeah, the door." He replies, smirking down at me.

I see that the bed is made and all of Maddox's clothes are off the floor. "Who cleans up after you and how do they know when to come here?" I inquire.

"Her name is Rosa and she comes four times a week from twelve to three, I let her pick her days."

"Why four times a week? You're not that messy."

"I like a clean house and I'm too lazy to wash a dish or make my bed and you can forget about me doing laundry. I won't do any of it."

"I feel bad for whoever you marry." I tease.

I feel Maddox tense up and he sets me down on the heated bathroom tiles.

"I was joking, Maddox, any girl would be lucky to have you. You really need to learn to take a joke and understand the word no." I add, as I turn the shower on.

I hop in under the spray. "You know the only reason I'm moving in with you is because of this shower."

He smirks as he gets in. "Why did you change your mind?"

"Well, you're pretty annoying when you want something. So, I figured for the sake of my sanity I could move in. If it's too much or not working out we need to be honest with each other about it." I tell him, strongly.

"It will be fine." He replies, sounding confident.

I hear Maddox's phone beeping but he ignores it and starts washing my back. He kisses my shoulder and his phone beeps again. "This better be good." He grumbles, getting out of the shower to check his phone. I finish washing then look at Maddox. Great, the blank face.

"What is it?" I ask.

He's still looking at his phone as if he's trying to figure something out. I wait then say, "Out with it all ready."

"I have a fight tonight." Maddox answers.

"A fight. You're leaving me here, going to go fight and then expect me to be here when you get back?"

"It won't take long."

"Maddox, I can't do this. I can't enable you to go fight illegally. I understand what moves you to fight but I don't want to be a part of that. Can you drop me off at home before you go?"

"I'll be back in an hour, two tops." Did he not hear me?

"Maddox, you fought four days ago. You've fought Jason and Logan, you don't need this shit in your life, it's not right. What is it? I'm not enough to keep you from feeling numb, but fighting is?"

"Hadley, I need this. I still want you."

"Okay, if this is what you need then you should do it." I tell him.

"Good. I'll be back soon."

"Don't rush on my account." I mutter, reaching for a towel."Can you please drop me off at home?"

"No. I'll be back soon. I'll make it fast." He says, again.

"I'm not staying here." I argue.

"Fine. I'll pick you back up when I'm done." He states.

"I don't need you to do that." This is going to hurt. "I'm so sorry." I say starting to cry. "I can't do this." I walk by a stunned Maddox and walk back to the dining room putting my clothes back on. I need to trust my gut on this. It doesn't feel right that he should need to fight like he does.

"What are you talking about? You know I'm not going to let you go." He replies, getting angry. His phone beeps. "We'll talk about this when I get back." He walks over to me and crushes his mouth against my lips. "You're mine."

"Bye, Maddox." I say, as his phone beeps a third time.

He walks away. At the elevator he turns back. "I love you."

"You know I never understood the phrase sometimes love isn't enough, I guess I do now." I finish, saying as the elevator doors close. Maddox's face is pained. I wait hoping he'll come back.

I stand there in the living room looking at the floor. Why didn't I realize that l couldn't help him? That he doesn't want help? I feel sick knowing what I have to do. I hear my phone, Madonna singing Like A Virgin. I walk to the kitchen and reach into my purse getting my phone. Its Tyler, he'll help.

"Hello." I answer, my voice cracking.

"Babe, is something wrong?"

"Yeah, can you come get me? Or are you going to the fight?" I question.

"I was just calling to see if you were going, but I don't have to go. Where are you? Are you crying?!" He asks, outraged.

"No, I'm not going. I'm at Maddox's, he just left. I need to leave and I don't have a way home."

"I'm on my way. Did you have a fight or something?"

"No. He needs to fight, he only wants me." I answer, not making much sense as I break down. I sit on the floor pulling my legs up and rest my head on my knees. I hear Tyler but I can't make out what he's saying and hang up.

I wait only a few minutes, then go to the elevator, getting in I press the lobby button my heart breaks a little more. When I get to the lobby, I walk right outside and take a breath of fresh air. I wait only a couple of minutes and Tyler pulls up and gets out. He walks over to me and takes my head in his hands. "I'll make it better, let's go." He says, opening the car door.

I get in the car still crying softly. Tyler shuts my door and drives away from Maddox's condo. Tyler pulls into a grocery store.

"I'll be right back." He says and goes inside.

I start thinking of Maddox, this is all my fault. I shouldn't have gotten involved with him. I mean I went to his fight four days ago. I was caught up in him, his looks, his behavior, his smiles, everything Maddox has, I find appealing. I just wish he needed me. I love that he wants me, but how do I knowingly take a backseat to his fighting? It was stupid for me to think I could change him or that I'd be enough.

"Okay, I got everything we're going to need." Tyler states, getting in the car.

"What is all this?" I ask.

"Supplies."

"For what, the end of the world?" I ask, looking at the bags.

"Our sleepover." He corrects.

"I am not dressing up as a sexy nurse." I say, grinning through the tears.

"Fine, I'll be the nurse." He huffs.

I laugh. "Really, what is this?"

"I got ice cream, cookies, chips, soda, beer, tissues, cucumbers, a skin mask, nail polish and tampons. Oh, and a magazine that has a test to see if you and your mate have chemistry." He winks.

"What! Why would you get all that?" I ask, laughing.

"Why not? This is what chicks do, I saw it in a movie. We have to watch The Notebook, too. Sorry, rules are rules." He shrugs.

"Thanks, Tyler. I'm glad you're my best friend here." I say, getting teary eyed.

"Don't cry because if you cry, I'll cry and I haven't opened the tissues yet." He fake sobs.

"Where are we going?"

"My house. Maddox won't look for you there. It will give you the time you need to think. Maddox can be pretty intense and you need to get your head on straight before you face him. Are you going to tell Nurse Tyler what happened?"

I chuckle and then groan. "Maddox told me that he fights to not feel numb. I thought that I'd be enough to help him, but I'm not. I told him to take me home but he wouldn't. He said we'd talk when he got back. He knew I was leaving and he just didn't care. Fighting comes first to him."

"Are you sure? It just doesn't seem like he would have left if he knew you were leaving. I really don't think any guy would leave you, maybe I'm biased being the BFF, but anyone would choose you over a fight, I'm sure of it. Maybe Maddox didn't see it as a deal breaker like you do."

"We were in the shower when he got the call, trust me, he knew what he was leaving behind. It just wasn't tempting enough as the fight was. I told him, Tyler, he knew."

"Then I don't get it, what the hell was he thinking?" He asks, exasperated.

"It's Maddox. Does anyone ever know what he's thinking?"

We pull up to a gate and it opens slowly. I'm confused until we take a right and pass some trees and a beautiful house or should I say mansion, comes into view.

"You live here?" I ask, surprised.

"Yep, this is my shack. You should see my real house."

"Yeah, right. I feel like I'm in the movie Richie Rich. Make my dreams come true and tell me you have a dog named Dollar."

"If that's your dream, I'll go get one right now." He offers.

We pull into his garage that has at least fifteen more cars. I'm still in awe of everything as I look around.

"Are you getting out? This is just the garage." Tyler says, teasing me.

"Yeah, Richie. I'm coming."

I get out and follow him. He's carrying the grocery bags. "Here, let me help." I say, trying to take some of the bags.

"I got it."

The lighting is dim as we walk through the house and Tyler doesn't bother turning on any lights. "I feel like I'm Scooby Doo. Have you seen the haunted mansion episode? Where Shaggy and Scooby get lost trying to find something to eat? It turns out the place is not haunted but the guy that owns the mansion did it to make money."

He laughs. "Are you serious? If anything I'm Scooby and you're Daphne."

"Oh, I have to be the dumb bimbo. No way, you can be Scrappy and I'm Scooby."

"It's my house! And no one likes Scrappy!" He shouts, appalled.

"Fine. Because you had to argue, you're now Fred." I snap back.

"No way! The only good thing about Fred is he was tapping that sweet Daphne ass." We both laugh.

We get to a kitchen, it's gorgeous. Everything is new but made to look old, like a French kitchen. Dark cabinets and light beige granite counter tops. I love it.

"I wanna live here." I whine.

Tyler laughs. "Moving in, sweetheart?"

"I was going to move in with Maddox." I admit, quietly.

"Really? Do you two not believe in taking things slow?" He questions shaking his head. "Sorry, but you guys got together really fast and now you're starting to find out who the other really is, can you honestly say you're surprised it's not working out?"

"You're right. I just felt more for him than I ever had before, it was nice. I still think we would've been great together. We could have had a future if he would stop living in the past."

Tyler takes out the ice cream and hands me a spoon. I smile sadly and start eating, chocolate marshmallow, yum. When Tyler takes out the tampons I laugh. "You really bought tampons?"

"Yeah, well you didn't give me a ton of information. I thought maybe you were PMSing."

I laugh at his reasoning. "Let me guess, you saw it in a movie?" I ask.

"Hey, the other stuff worked." He says, pointing to the ice cream.

"Yeah, I feel a little better."

"Just wait until we start painting each other's nails and put on our face masks. Then you'll be saying, 'Maddox, who?'"

My phone rings, shit, should I even look? Tyler goes quiet as I grab it out of my bag. "It's him, should I answer?" I ask.

"Do you want to?"

"No, it's going to hurt again." I answer, as my eyes start to water.

The phone stops ringing but starts again after a few seconds. Maybe he's worried, I should tell him I'm okay.

"I think he gave up." I say, after ten minutes of no calls.

Then the music starts again, I look and it's J.J. "Hey, J.J."

"Hadley, where are-"

"Where the hell are you?!" Maddox's voice booms.

"I'm not telling, but I'm fine." I sneer and hang up. "It was J.J. until Maddox took the phone, he's mad. Wants to know where I am." I explain.

My phone rings again and its J.J. calling again.

"Here, let me answer it." Tyler says, as he takes my phone.

"No, I don't want you to get in trouble with Maddox!" I yell. But Tyler answers it anyway.

"Hadley's phone." He answers, putting it on speaker.

"Who's this?" J.J. asks.

"Tyler the sex God speaking."

"So Hadley's with you?" J.J. asks sounding relieved.

"Yep. We're having a girls' night, don't wait up." Tyler replies.

I can hear shouting in the background. "Maddox wants to talk to you." J.J. relates. Then I hear Maddox get on the phone.

"Where are you?" Maddox asks.

"Vegas, we're getting married. You messed up big time choosing fighting over her." Tyler answers, simply.

"I didn't choose fighting, I just need to fight. I'll make her understand, put her on now." Maddox orders.

"She doesn't want to talk to you."

"Put her on the fucking phone!" Maddox shouts. Tyler looks at me when we hear something crashing in the background.

I take the phone. "Maddox, calm down!" I yell.

"Hadley, where are you?" He asks breathing hard.

"At Tyler's." I answer. I doubt he knows where he lives.

"I'm coming to get you. Where does he live?" Maddox asks.

"I'm not leaving. I don't even feel like talking to you. Listen very carefully, when you're done with fighting you can call me. I hope I'm still around." I tell him.

"Hadley, don't talk like that. I need to see you, let me come get you."

"Maddox, you and I both know what happened at your house, you heard what I said. I'm sorry you expected to change my mind but I'm not going to. We can't be together. We rushed into this without knowing each other and I can't handle the fighting. I know that now. We should both be glad I found out now instead of later."

"I need to see you. I've already told you you're not going anywhere, you're mine. I'll even cut back on my fighting, but I can't stop." Maddox says, resigned.

"That's not good enough. Goodbye, Maddox."
