This whole chapter is going to be in the past from Jessica's perspective, it will jump forward a lot in time.

I watched my mother dance around the kitchen humming a tune. I couldn't tell what song it was but it didn't matter. Somehow she always brought happiness anywhere she went. She could make you smile no matter how bad of a day it was.

"Jessica, sweetie, can you get me the flour out of the pantry?" my mother asked me.

"Yes, mama." I said smiling up at her and walking over to the pantry.

"Where's my food?" said a booming voice from the living room.

"It will be right out." my mom said losing all happiness in her voice. I knew she wanted out of here, she only stayed for me.

"Papa, how is mama?" my mother asked my grandpa on the phone. He still lived in Russia where my mother grew up.

"She is doing bad, I don't know how much longer she has. You should visit before she passes." my grandpa said, sadness clear in his voice.

"You know I would love to,but I can't." my mom said sadly. My father would never let us go to Russia.

At that moment my father came in, he was drunk and he was breaking everything. He looked at mama and got angry, he slapped her. I started crying when she fell to the floor. My mother looked at me and started singing a song. It was a lullaby that she always sang me. Her mom would sing it to her when she was upset.

"Don't shed your tears, show him he doesn't hurt you. Only shed tears for those who really matter." my mother said softly. I nodded my head and slowly stopped crying.

Two weeks after my grandfather called my grandma passed away. That was one of the only times I ever saw my mother cry.

When my mother got pregnant she was happy. She always knows how to take care of me. Even though we weren't rich my mother still gave me a present for my 16th birthday. It was an old necklace that has been passed down in her family.

The twins were born not to long after my birthday. A baby boy and a baby girl. Elliot, her only boy. Leigh, named after the mother she lost. They both had the same brown hair and blue eyes that I got. My mother always stood out in the crowd. She had black hair and green eyes. My father a cold man with brown hair and ice blue eyes that could make you cower in fear.

When the twins turned one my mom knew she had to get away fast. She booked us a one way flight to Russia. Somehow my father found out we were rushing out of the house and my father came home. He grabbed my mom's arm and she pushed away from him. I will never forget the gunshot that rang into the house. I looked back and saw my mother fall, a pool of blood surrounded her. The gun pointed at me, I grabbed the twins and ran. A sudden pain burst through my arm. I looked and saw he just missed me.

He ran at me and grabbed Leigh I reached out but he went for Elliot. I turned around a burst through the door. I jumped in his car and drove off. I knew I couldn't get on that flight with Leigh still here, so I went to the only place I knew he wouldn't find me. I stopped the car a few blocks away and walked to the alley my mother first introduced me to my cousins. They were two twins both fighters, Deke and Zeke. I saw Zeke first and I ran to him.

"Zeke, I need your help, my mom is dead and my father has Leigh." I said trying to keep it together.

"We need to bandage that wound, you can stay with us until you can support yourself." Zeke said as he guided me to their apartment.

"I'm moving out." I said to Zeke while grabbing my stuff.

"Jessica, you need to stay here a job at a pastry shop isn't going to cut it." Zeke said angrily.

" I get a little money from the gang and I still have leftover money from Roman." I said.

"I told you not to make a deal with him, he may be gone now but that doesn't mean he will be gone forever." Zeke said angrily.

"I know I will take care of that when it comes but for now I need to get my own place and find Leigh." I said.

"Stop by here sometimes, I know you can handle yourself, I taught you how to fight and defend yourself." he said finally giving up.

"If I ever need something, I'll come here okay." I said smiling. He nodded his head and I walked out the door.

I walked into the run down apartment and looked around. I grabbed the delicate gold chain around my neck holding the one thing that reminded me to keep going. That kept me here searching for Leigh. Once I find here I will finally go back to Russia, the place my mother always talked about.
