Fall In Love With A Village Girl

by Grace Ann J. Lubrin

Once upon a time, there lived a lovely, kind-hearted girl named Byeol Nari Shin. She was the only child of Sung-Hoon Shin and Cha Nari Shin, residing in the tranquil countryside of Korea in Yeongam Gurim Village, situated near Wolchulsan National Park—a historic South Korean village known for its quiet ambiance and the absence of throngs of tourists.

Byeol Nari, recognized in her village as a simple, hardworking, and pure-hearted young lady, belonged to a close-knit community where everyone treated each other like family. Her family owned a farm, cultivating a variety of vegetables and fruits. Born and raised in this small village, Byeol Nari had never ventured beyond its boundaries. Her father's constant advice, "Why go when you have everything here?" kept her rooted.

Curiosity about love lingered in Byeol Nari's heart, inspired by her parents' genuine affection. When she questioned them, they emphasized that love finds its way to you in the right place, time, and with the right people, making it pure and true.

Unexpectedly, distressing news shook the entire village. The tranquil haven was at risk of being transformed into parks and a resort, purchased by the wealthy Kim family, causing immense concern among the villagers. A meeting was convened to discuss how to save their beloved Gurim Village.

In the midst of the villagers' worries, Ji-Ho Kim, the son of the family acquiring the village, made an appearance. Attempting to address the gathering, he was interrupted by Byeol Nari, who boldly asserted, "You have no right to destroy our beautiful village and the lives of the people who live here! You have no idea how lovely and peaceful this village is, so who are you to destroy it?" Ji-Ho, intrigued, granted her 24 hours to prove the worth of saving the village.

The next day, the villagers mobilized their efforts, preparing traditional food and showcasing the unique charm of Gurim Village. As the Kim family arrived, they were greeted by villagers dressed in traditional attire, engaging in lively singing and dancing.

Byeol Nari took the initiative to introduce the Kim family to the village's surroundings. An evening by the bonfire, with singing, laughter, and a game of truth or dare, aimed to familiarize Ji-Ho with the community. When questioned about the reason for the chance to save the village, Ji-Ho's mother revealed it was due to the influence of the lovely Byeol Nari Shin.

Blushing with surprise, Byeol Nari played a pivotal role in persuading Ji-Ho to reconsider, ultimately leading to the salvation of Gurim Village.

And so, Ji-Ho returned to Gurim Village, not just as an outsider but as part of the community, ensuring the preservation of the village's unique charm and traditions.
