The Proud Princess

In Gyeongbokgung Palace, the people adore the king for his good character and effective administration of his realm.

However, the king's daughter, Princess Cho Seo Yeon, known as "Beautiful," has a poor personality. She is self-obsessed and believes that no one can enhance her beauty. She behaves like a spoiled brat, crying whenever the king or even the royal mother refuses to grant her wishes.

The royal palace celebrates Chuseok with a parade, sky lanterns to thank the gods of the heavens, and numerous other lively events. Princess Cho Seo Yeon looks at individuals throughout the procession and mocks them, considering them unattractive. She says things like, "What an ugly people they are," "I pity them," and spends the entire event laughing at others.

One evening, she decides to slip out of the palace to take in festivities elsewhere. Due to the busy schedule of the royal maids, no one notices the princess leaving. Princess Cho Seo Yeon, confident her father can't stop her, walks around. When recognized as the princess, people bow, not out of respect but to keep their faces hidden.

She hears a rumor about a grand fairy pretending to be an old woman to curse someone with a nasty personality. The princess laughs off the rumor, confident that no one would dare curse a princess.

As she mocks an elderly woman struggling with a box, the woman transforms into a majestic fairy. "You judge others by their physical appearance, without knowing what they could feel..." the fairy chastises the princess.

Stunned, the princess asks, "What would you do? Curse me? Punish me? You can't do that; I'm a princess!" The grand fairy waves her wand, turning the princess into an ugly version of herself. Crying and attempting to return to the palace, she's blocked, as no one believes the ugly girl is the princess. Eventually, the princess becomes an ordinary person, and the royal family continues searching for her.
