25. Moving out of the Palace

The pleased look on Mu Xiyue’s face enlightened Long Yinfeng. He realized it was Mu Xiyue who set the trap.

Mu Xiyue asked him happily, “See? I’m not lying, huh? Great fun, isn’t it?”

Long Yinfeng smiled and shook his head. He replied sweetly, “You set the trap, huh? And you take me there to have fun.”

Mu Xiyue asked in reply, smiling, “Don’t you feel good? He humiliated us. And I get him grounded this time. We kind of avenge ourselves. Haw-haw.”

Long Yinfeng smiled, too and replied, “You’re right. I feel great, too. Funny.”

He stared at his wife. He knew she was a frank girl who always took revenge and defended herself. He really admired it when she set a trap, and he made up his mind to take good care of her and protect her. “I’ll never let no one hurt her again.” thought he.

Having got Long Yichen ground to avenge herself, Mu Xiyue was fully satisfied. But as time went by, she was bored with the life in the palace where everyone tried to deceive and hurt one another.

One day, she took an early opportunity to tell Long Yinfeng what she really wanted, “Yinfeng, I don’t want to live in the palace anymore.”

“What’s wrong? Did anything happened?” asked Long Yinfeng, feeling surprised.

“Not really.” explained Mu Xiyue, “I’m just fed up with the life here. It’s full of deceit and dishonesty. I thought a lot about it lately. Long Yichen, for example. I don’t know when or how I made him angry. He slandered me, framed me up and even tried to kill me. Luckily, I managed to trap him and get him grounded, kind of teach him a lesson. But there could be more men like him. What should I do then? Maybe I’ll die before I even know why. I want no longer to live such a dangerous life. I want peace only.”

What she said made Long Yinfeng’s heart ache. He smoothed her hair and replied, “I know you’ve been feeling bad lately. And I saw what you’ve been suffering. I’ll tell Father so that we can move out of the palace.”

Mu Xiyue was pleased, and she continued, “Don’t worry. Even if we move out of the palace, I’ll take good care of you. I won’t let you live a hard life.”

Long Yinfeng was amused. Having no hesitation, he agreed to her offer.

And immediately, he went to the see his father and requested, “Father, I want to move out of the palace of my wife and live in my own mansion.”

Long Jingsong was shocked. He asked, “What happened and why do you suddenly want to move out?”

“Nothing, Father,” replied Long Yinfeng, “I just want to live out of the palace for a good recuperation.”

“It sounds good,” replied Long Jingsong, “But your safety can’t be guaranteed then. And you might be less taken care of me. It worries me.”

Hearing that, Mu Xiyue explained immediately, “Your Majesty, don’t worry about that. I’ll take good care of him.”

Her words kind of relieved Long Jingsong. And Mu Xiyue continued, “Think about what happened lately, Your Majesty. There has been much trouble. Living such a life will do harm to Prince Yinfeng. And if something happens to him, you’ll be troubled again. If you allow us to move out, I’ll attentively look after him. I promise you. I will never let anyone hurt him. If you’re still worried, we’ll take more guards so that they can protect us in his mansion. Anyway, Prince Yinfeng is your son. Who dares to hurt him?”

“She made some sense,” Long Jingsong thought, “Life in the palace is always restless. Under so much trouble, people are dispirited. Yinfeng may not have a good rest. He might even get hurt. He and Xiyue were just slandered. If I let them move out, Yinfeng will live a more peaceful life and it’ll relieve me. I’ll send more guards for him so that he could be safe.”

Thinking in this way, he finally allowed them to move out, even though he didn’t want it.

Mu Xiyue was thrilled!

Just then, the empress interrupted, “Your Majesty. I don’t think Prince Yinfeng should move out. It’s not safe to live out of the palace. If he runs into any accident, there’ll be consequences!”

What she said stirred Long Yinfeng from his resolve. He couldn’t help hesitating.

As far as Long Yinfeng knew the empress, she must be stopping them, only because she wanted to teach them a lesson. If they moved out, she would fail to trap them!

“I must stop the empress,” thought he, and he said firmly to Long Jingsong, “Father, I insist on moving out. After I have a good recuperation, I will move back. You don’t need to worry. As for safety, please rest assured. I’ll take more guards with me. And I won’t leave my mansion unless I have to. Anyway, you just allowed us to move out. As the emperor, you shouldn’t go back on your words, Father.”

Long Jingsong had to allow them to leave, then.

Out of anger, the empress still tried to persuade her husband, and she said, “Your Majesty, think carefully about that!”

Long Jingsong replied impatiently, “Shut up! I just promised them. Are you going to let me go back on my words?”

The empress had no reason to argue, though she had a fit of the sulks. She always bore a grudge because she suspected Mu Xiyue trapped her son last time. And this time, Long Yinfeng managed to move out of the palace, also because of Mu Xiyue. It would be harder to trap them in the future. The more she thought about it, the angrier she got! It was Mu Xiyue’s fault that everything was in such a mess!

She hated Mu Xiyue even more.

26. Having Fun

“I’ll let you move out,” thought the empress, “After you move out, I’ll kill you and you can be a couple in the hell! Don’t blame me for being cruel! But you’re in the way of my son’s throne! Since you set yourselves against me, I have no choice, but to kill you!”

With the approval of the emperor, Mu Xiyue and Yanzi were packing their luggage in Chaoyang Palace excitedly. Long Yinfeng, however, wheeled himself around the palace. This was where he had been living ever since he was born. And he was moving out soon. He felt somehow sad and depressed.

It wasn’t long before Mu Xiyue and Yanzi completed packing, for there wasn’t too much to take away. Mu Xiyue noticed Long Yinfeng and she could feel the sadness and loneliness on him, even though she wasn’t near. It made her heart ache. She strode over to him and embraced him from behind. She lay his head on one of his shoulders and covered his eyes with her hands. She gently whispered, “Yinfeng, you still have me. I’ll always stay with you, till the end of time. But don’t dislike me when I grow old!”

When Mu Xiyue embraced him, Long Yinfeng shivered. He held her hands tightly, with which she covered his eyes, as if he were holding a driftwood when he was drowning. He never wanted to let her go. He then embraced Mu Xiyue in his arms, taking in the light smell on her. Right at this moment, his lonely and hesitating heart was filled with bright sun and the sad feels were totally gone.

A few minutes later, Long Yinfeng gave a charming smile. That was a sincere smile, exclusive to Mu Xiyue. Meanwhile, he said to her slowly, but firmly, “Silly girl. Even when you grow old and no longer beautiful, I will still hold your hands and always stay with you. Even when you become weak and have wrinkles, I’m still willing to spend the rest of my life with you until we die.”

At this moment, even the wind failed. Long Yinfeng and Mu Xiyue looked into each other’s eyes, as if everyone else were gone around them. At this moment, they wanted to be each other’s wings so that they could fly together; At this moment, life was so great that they only wanted to grow old with each other. What a sweet moment!

Before they even knew it, Mo Heng and Yanzi appeared a little distance from them. They gave a pleasing smile, staring at them hugging tightly.

She was real and adamant, at least.

Soon, they four left the palace, keeping a low profile without disturbing anyone else. On her way, Mu Xiyue found the air fresher and sky bluer. Birds sang happily around them. Yanzi, who used to keep quiet, and Mo Heng, who used to be cold, even talked more and looked livelier.

“Honey, without you, I wouldn’t have been brave enough to leave the palace. Then, I would have spent all my life in that cold place. Because I don’t care where I live when you’re not around. But now, I find that place so cold while the world out of it can be so sweet.” said Long Yinfeng, confessing his true feelings to his wife.

“Honey, we’ve moved out of the palace and we’re free! Don’t be stuck in the past. Think about what you have now. And you’ll feel how happy you are!” replied Mu Xiyue. She felt quite sympathetic for what Long Yinfeng had suffered.

He used to be a hero, leaving a brave life. He fought wars everywhere in his armor. But five years ago, in that war, a war full of evil schemes, he was struck and became paralytic. From then now, he lost his wings and he could no longer walk. How cruel it was!

“I don’t care,” Mu Xiyue thought, “as long as I can go out and have fun.”

She remembered some time-travel books she read, where the heroine visited brothels, disguised like a man. Mu Xiyue also dressed herself up like a young man, holding a folding fan. The fake moustaches she stuck to her face looked cute, but still handsome. Yanzi followed her, disguised as a boy attendant.

Walking out of the mansion, Mu Xiyue waved her fan, smiled sexily and gave the glad eye to girls along the street. The girls blushed and their hearts raced uncontrollably. A lot of girls were attracted by Mu Xiyue.

27. Long Yinfeng’s Curiosity

According to Yanzi, the begonias around Wei Lake in the west of town were blooming, and Mu Xiyue wanted to have a look. On her way, she saw a man drowning in the city moat!

Mu Xiyue could swim, and she used to be a doctor. Without a second thought, she jumped into the moat and got the man out while he had already passed out.

Prince Haoze was an easy-going man, who hated to be restrained by imperial rules and dirty tricks in the palace. He had moved out of the palace long ago. Realizing he had no ambition on the politics, the emperor just let him go. Therefore, Prince Haoze always travelled around the whole nation, living a quite free life.

Yanzi had planned to tell Mu Xiyue who Long Haoze was, but suddenly she saw Mu Xiyue kissing Long Haoze! What the hell! She was struck dumb with astonishment, yet she didn’t yell out to stop Mu Xiyue because the latter had always done something surprising. The fact was that Mu Xiyue was doing CPR and artificial respiration to Long Haoze, which was quite normal in the 21st century, but extremely unacceptable in the ancient time when men should stay as far as they could from women.

Long Haoze spat out all the water he sucked into his lung and woke up soon. Seeing a man kissing himself, he flushed immediately and got angry from embarrassment! “I’m not a gay!” he yelled to Mu Xiyue, “Don’t be rude to me again!”

For the sake that Mu Xiyue saved him, he would let go of what she had done.

Mu Xiyue had meant to explain why she “kissed” him. Unexpectedly, she was taken for a lecher and gay. The nervous look on Long Haoze’s face was really amusing Mu Xiyue, and she flirted with him on the spur of the moment, instead of explaining.

Long Haoze hadn’t met such an audacious “man”. In a fit of fear, he fled away even before he could tell the right direction.

Mu Xiyue was in a cheery mood. She didn’t realize she was in the ancient time until she saw the confused look on Yanzi’s face. Well, the “kiss” she just did was really astounding! She carefully explained why she “kissed” Long Haoze. “And I promise you. I care for your master Prince Yinfeng and I’ll never cheat on him,” she added, “He will set me free after I cure his legs and he can then marry the girl he truly loves.”

Well, it was easier than done. But why did she feel her heart aching when she thought that Long Yinfeng might marry someone else.

Knowing the agreement between Prince Yinfeng and his wife, Yanzi had a mixture of feelings. “Miss Mu was the best woman I’ve ever met,” Yanzi thought, “She’s kind and modest. She never treats me as a servant. I don’t want her to leave. And obviously, Prince Yinfeng doesn’t want her to leave, either.”

Solving the problem of Long Haoze, it was already midday when Mu Xiyue decided to go back home with Yanzi. After wandering around on the street for the whole morning, she had been starving. Thinking of the delicious dishes at made her mouth water! She even wished she could fly directly to the dining table and enjoyed them! She quickened her steps!

After she returned home that day, she had never gone out again. Every night, she read lots of medical books. In the day, she did acupuncture and medicated bath to Long Yinfeng, trying to cure his legging. Watching so many weird medical tools coming out of her invisible treasure chest, Long Yinfeng realized that Mu Xiyue was careful and professional, and her real identity really made him curious. Sometimes, he was too inquisitive to hold back his curiosity. “How did you get such tools?” he asked, pretending to be unintentional.

“I’ll tell you someday when appropriate!” that’s always the answer from Mu Xiyue.

Long Yinfeng wasn’t a stubborn guy. Since Mu Xiyue relied so, he would just wait. He believed that Mu Xiyue would open her heart and told him the truth someday.

Mu Xiyue let out a sigh of relief. Luckily, Long Yinfeng just asked, instead of forcing her to answer. Or she didn’t know what to do. On the one hand, she didn’t want to lie to him. On the other hand, she didn’t want to make trouble, for she would leave him someday.

Mostly importantly, she didn’t know how to explain. Time-travel, invisible treasure chest and surgical operation. None of them could be understand by people in this age, and they were all beyond common people’s cognition. If such superstitious people disbelieved her, they might kill her!

Besides, she didn’t think she and Long Yinfeng completely trusted each other for this moment.

Long Yinfeng only spent one or two months with Mu Xiyue, but she stuck so hard in his eyes. He could no longer live without her. Yet he didn’t dare to confess his feelings to her, in case she might be scared off! All he could do wat to take good care of her. Thinking of this, Long Yinfeng shook his head helplessly. “I never know I can rely on someone like this,” he thought, “and it feels good. But if someday, she disappears...”

NO! he would never let her leave.

Even thinking of her disappearance made him worry and panic. His heart ached and he was scared. He could never stand living a life without Mu Xiyue. She was just the sunshine in his life, expelling the darkness and fulfilling his soul. After living alone in the darkness for such a long time, he finally embraced the warmth. And he no longer wanted to go back to the darkness. Though the warmth might burn him, he would still run after it.

“If I knew the love for her would tear my heart, I’d rather not meet her.” thought Long Yinfeng.
