Negan can't believe Rick would just plan a surprise trip out of the state without talking to him before hand, Negan hadn't planned on big adventures till the kids were bigger but Rick is convinced the kids need to see more than just their little town. Will Negan give into the idea of travel with a 2 and 10 year old? Maybe.

"We can't just make the kids drop their lives, I have a job." Negan mumbled. "You have a job."

"I know, but it would be good for them to get out of this little town you and I both have been here our entire lives." Rick replied as his had swept towards the window. "This is just the first trip, one of many." He crossed his arms tapping his foot.

"You didn't even ask me first Rick," Negan grunted as he closed his eyes trying to think, he didn't want to lash out, their daughter was drawing at the table. Their son would be home from baseball soon.

"Just one trip, if we hate it we won't do it again."

"The dog?" Negan asked again pointing towards it, the German Shepard was curled up under the kitchen table.

"The neighbor is watching it and the house, it's just a week. I called in your work, they found a substitute for the week." Rick smiled hopeful. "I already packed our bags and the kids."

"So what, we just go for the week? What about Carl's school?"

"I excused him for the week, you know he is going to love this. Going out as a family, he always wants to spend more time with us, as a family. You and I are both so busy at work he doesn't get dad time." Rick replied as he looked at the clock. "One week just us, a little roundtrip just to the Grand Canyon and back."

"Fine," Negan ran his hand through his hair. "Alright fine Rick." Rick sighed in relief, he expected a bigger fall out over this. Negan picked up Judy and headed to get her into pajamas knowing the car ride would be her least favorite part. Carl came home from baseball.

"Hey bud, go grab the bag on your bed and change into pjs. We have a big surprise." Rick smiled at him, Carl smiled racing off towards his room, he changed and grabbed his bag. Rick finished picking up the car and they all pilled in, two days of sleeping in the car and seeing the view was starting to irritate Negan more than he wanted to admit. The third day they finally made it to the Grand Canyon. Rick strapped Judith to his chest and put his pack on, Carl got his hiking boots on.

"You ready dad?" Carl asked holding Negan's hand excitedly. Negan nodded as he put his backpack on, the family began to hike through the canyon. Carl kept talking, he was so excited to see everything with his dads.

As they reached a peak and looked the view over Negan sighed. "You were right," he admitted begrudgingly looking Rick over, "the kids love it."

Rick smiled as Negan gave him a kiss to the forehead and nuzzled Judith's nose, the clapped pointing forward. "Bird!" She called as a hawk flew by. Carl snapped photos, they piled together for their first trip photo of many.
