Carl woke early that morning excited for his birthday, he had been keep track on a calendar. He was to present today, which was the most exciting part. He wondered what he would be, if he was going to be like his dad a strong alpha male or like his mother a beta.

Daryl walked by him with a smile. "You excited to present today pup?"

"Yeah, I am honestly." Carl beamed the young twelve year old prepared to find out his placement. "What was yours like?"

"Uhm.. it wasn't awesome. I wasn't really looking forward to it anyway though pup. You're is going to be great though I promise! Merle and I bagged us a deer to celebrate."

"You did?!" Carl smiled happy, he was born at noon and so once that time came around he would present. His scent would become apparent and depending on his placement things would change. If he was alpha his knot would drop, beta hardly any change would occur, and the unthinkable would be omega. Thankfully if he was omega he wouldn't have a heat for another month while his body processed a few other things.

Lori and Rick were excited, while they had split up long before the apocalypse had begun they stayed 'close' for Carl's sake. His step-dad Shane was minimally excited to find out his placement, but assumed it to be alpha so had no reason to question what he would be.

Merle, Carol, and Daryl were the only omegas of the pack. The Dixon brothers far from any docile omega anyone had met in their entire life, while Carol seemed docile she was far from it, just knew how to hide behind the 'house wife' role she played to a T.

Sophia had another year before she placed but most people assumed her to place as a beta or omega. The omegas had happily prepared a nice meal for the preparations. Daryl and Merle had grown close to the young male over time, his mother mostly absent mindedly letting him run off and with his father being Prime Alpha he had plenty of responsibilities. Carl's Step-Dad was the second alpha so he also wasn't always around. So the two male omegas took him under their wing, happy to help him with whatever he wanted.

Due to Daryl's constant watch of Carl, Rick had begun to court him. Or court in the best way he knew how with the brash hunter. Most omegas wanted soft and shiny things, but Daryl much preferred weapons and animal skins. Daryl wasn't typical, and Rick was having a hard time figuring him out, but he was up for the challenge.

Rick smiled as his son followed Daryl towards the fire where the elder Dixon was cooking up the deer they had hunted. He sat with them while they waited, the hours ticking by. It was almost noon now and Carl was anticipating his change. He was scentless for now, but it was coming soon.

Daryl smiled passing out plates to the pack, he wasn't generally willing to give up and give into his omega tendencies but it was a special day. Carl smiled waiting patiently, he was prepared for himself to be a young alpha or beta.

Dale checked his pocket watch. "Almost time now son," the elder beta beamed.

Carl smiled happily, Lori was standing beside Shane waiting patiently.

Daryl watched Carl as he almost vibrated in his seat. Dale raised a bushy eyebrow as the clock struck 12. Daryl waited for his smell to change, however the anticipated alpha or beta scent wasn't what presented itself, instead there was a sweet scent like Carol, Merle, and Daryl's.

Carl looked up surprised by his own scent, Daryl was a brown sugar smell, Carol smelt of cookies, and Merle like lemon bars. Carl's scent was chocolaty. "You're omega." Daryl beamed pride wafting off of him surprised the young man was like himself and his brother.

Rick smiled. "You're going to be a strong omega Carl."

Lori glared. "No son of mine is omega."

Daryl stood up glaring. "What's wrong with being an omega?"

Carl was shaking holding back tears as he went to Merle and Carol for comfort, Sophia running to her friends aid. Rick snarled at Lori but allowed Daryl to fight for their pup while he went to give his boy some support.

"They can't b-"

"Omega's can do anything they want, have you seen me? Have you seen my brother? Even Carol has proved herself. There is nothing that stops us from being what we want, just because of our placements." Daryl snarled. "You're a terrible excuse of a mother, I could do a better job."

"Then do a better job," Lori hissed.

She turned away Shane following behind her. Carl furrowed his brow, this wasn't exactly the plan he had for his birthday. However he noticed the way Rick was looking at Daryl, and knew he wasn't losing a mom but gaining one.

Daryl growled turning back to the boy he looked to as his own. "Don't listen to her pup, being an omega is a great thing. I hated it when I was young, because of my dad but pup you've got people who love you here. People who are going to support you and everything you want."

Carl smiled and jumped into his arms, their scent wafting through the campsite. "Mine." Daryl whispered as he held him close.

"Yes he is." Rick smiled as he looked up to him. The pup smiled happily as he held onto Daryl.

"Happy birthday puppy." Daryl smiled kissing his forehead. "My little 'mega."
