July 3rd still in the apocalypse-

You and Daryl had been sent out for a supply run, your arms were wrapped around her waist. Your head laying on his back, the two of you were on his motor bike and you knew he would keep you safe.

A few people in Alexandria had been keeping track of the days passing by and all of them were positive the Fourth of July was coming up tomorrow.

The two of you stopped by store after store finding whatever you could to make a BBQ and you even happened to find sparklers, pop its and a few fireworks.

You all knew you'd have to do the fireworks on the inside of the compound but if you did it in a place that was out of the way you could all get away with it without bringing in unwanted guests and their attention. Daryl smirked as she picked up a few things as well.

"Now this is going to be a holiday." He said smiling. He took you into his arms and kissed you deeply. You kissed back ruffling his long dark hair and smiled.

You suddenly heard a groan and turned to see a zombie in the middle of a fire cracker display.

You stepped back and pointed it out to Daryl. The hunter smiled and grabbed a lighter off a nearby shelf.

"Ready for this babe? Let's set off our first firework." He smiled and lit the lighter and tossed it into the pile.

After a moment a large and booming crackle filled the shop. Your eyes grew wide as the zombie exploded blood and guts flying through the sky.

"That was awesome."

"Yes it was, oh yuh have a..a ear in your hair..." he chuckled pulling it out for you. You tried not to vomit and thankfully kept it in.

Soon after the two of you headed back with your supplies, after setting of a zombie-cracker you felt it best to get out of there. As the two of you arrived excitement began to radiate through the small town of Alexandria. The party planing began and the town square was lined with chairs and tables.

Everyone went to bed fantasizing about finally having anther holiday. Finally being a group, not being afraid for one night.

A day to remember.

July 4rth
——

Everyone woke up early to help prepare, you and some of the other women helped cook while the men set up all the tables and chairs. More solar panels were set up that morning as well, the wall was also added to, the outside and inside built up and weaponized.

At five the BBQ began, kids running around and the smell of cooked steaks and chicken wafted through the small town. The bell like chimes of laugher and the chatter of everyone talking made it really feel like a block party rather then a place in the apocalypse. Everyone sat around on a large table and began to eat.

The food was the best thing anyone had eaten since the apocalypse. Carol had baked her famous apple sauce cookies and the kids ran around playing with toys and poppers.

Daryl had you sit in his lap as everyone got ready to see the fireworks launch. Before it even began you all saw flashing lights and heard the explosions of fireworks outside your walls.

People began to grow more and more exited as random firework shows began to pop up. Your small town of Alexandria began to light your own.

This was something everyone needed.

It let you know that more people were out there, that people all over were still celebrating something as a group a family.

This was something to believe in.

Hope that survivors were out there and maybe one day a cure would be made to unite everyone as a whole again. To become one once again.

As fireworks lit up the sky in a multitude of colors Daryl pulled you into another kiss.

He was your hope.
He was your thing to believe in.
