Chapter Two

So even after the mishap that happened yesterday, I haven’t caught a glance of Drew the whole morning and now it was lunch time, I was hoping to spot him during lunch.

Scanning the cafeteria for the third time, I was about to lose hope.

“Cel, are you looking for somebody?” my friend, Lillian asked and I turned to face the rest of my friends who were looking at me with concerned looks.

I sighed and focused my attention on the salad I was eating, “No.”

“Celeste, tell us,” my other friend, Annabelle urged but I waved her off.

“Please don’t push it,” I pleaded and they nodded solemnly. I eyed the cafeteria for one more time before mentally groaning in disappointment. Drew was nowhere to be found, it was time to do some research.

“Hey Jessica,” I called out my blonde best friend who looked up from the spaghetti she was eating.

“Yes?”

“What do you know about Drew Everett?”

Jessica Oliver was the captain of the cheer squad, she hears every gossip that happens and knows every single person in school. One time she heard that Lillian’s boyfriend was cheating on her and she egged on the poor guy until he finally confessed. She even went as far as threatening to killing Arnold.

If you’re wondering who Arnold was, it was the guy’s basketball; he treats that ball like a baby, it was always under his arm. Don’t ask.

“Drew Everett…” she trailed off while tapping her chin as if she was wracking her brain for a person with that name, “I don’t know much about him. I used to have a few classes with him over the years, but I usually see him alone by himself.”

“Too badass to have friends?” Annabelle joked in but Jessica shook her head.

“More like a loner,” she corrected before lifting her fork to point at one direction. I followed the tip of the fork and my eyes bulged to see Drew sitting there.

Maybe I should go back to wearing glasses again.

Sadly though, he was sitting alone at the table nearest to the dumpster.

“Why the sudden curiosity about a guy?” Jessica inquired with a knowing look.

I don’t exactly know the answer but since I didn’t reply, they started assuming and Lillian – being the good friend that she is – stood up and screamed at the top of her lungs, enough for the whole cafeteria to hear, “Oh my gosh, you have a crush!” while pointing straight at me.

I rolled my eyes. I didn’t have a crush on Drew, I just met him last night and that was the first time we talked. You could say I was a little curious about the guy.

“Admit it Celeste, we're your best friend so we won’t judge,” Annabelle winked, “Even if it was Mr. Loner over there.”

“Nothing wrong with wanting to have some time alone,” Jessica defended and Annabelle shrugged.

“But being alone for all the time?”

I blame myself for this. I knew my friends well enough and I should have seen it coming that they’ll make a big deal out of this.

“Girls,” I say in an attempt to get their attention.

“Well, at least Celeste  is finally gaining a liking to the opposite gender,” Lillian crossed her arms over her chest while she was still standing up, “We were thinking you were turning lesbo already,” she continued before her face became blank, “Not that we have a problem with that.”

“Girls,” I tried again with no such luck.

“Don’t worry Celeste, we approve of Everett,” Jessica smiled at me before nodded enthusiastically.

“How cute would your babies would look like?” she cooed.

“Girls!” I yelled and the three of them closed their mouths and look at me, “Just stop talking,” I pleaded.

“Lillian, I suggest you take a seat because everybody’s looking at us,” Annabelle pointed out calmly as she took a bite of her sandwich. I looked around and she was right, they were all looking at us like we were the main attraction at a circus.

I looked to where Drew was sitting at the same time he looked at our direction. He caught me looking at him and a smirk form on his lips. I rolled my eyes and forked some lettuce into my mouth.

Well, those are my best friend you will just learn to deal with.

I stared blankly at my friends and they were staring at me the same way. We’re currently inside a classroom and I have a pile of paper waiting to be checked for the winter formal right in front of me.

“I can’t,” I said finally and the three of them groaned. Jessica was feeling extra dramatic today so she stomped her high heel clad foot childishly.

“Come on, Celeste.”

If you’re curious what the hell is happening, I’ve been dumped another huge pile of work and my three best friends wants to go shopping.

I have got to get new friends.

“Guys, when the winter formal is over, we’ll have a shopping spree, I promise,” I reassured them and they sighed while mumbling, “Fine.”

“Now go,” I shooed them. With one final glance, they walked out of the door and I was finally left with silence.

I looked at the pile of papers before letting out a loud agonizing scream. I could be compared to a screaming banshee right now from the stress I’m experiencing. I pulled out my hair in frustration and let out another scream.

People might think that I’m probably dying and I probably am inside. I dropped my head on the table with a thud and I’m sure a bump will grow there but right now, I could hardly care.

“I figured it would be you,” a familiar voice said and I quickly sprung up. Drew was standing there by the doorway with an amused smirk plastered on his face.

I stared at him while he walked near me then took the seat next to me.

“What?” he asked, feeling his face, checking if there was something on it.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

“Well, I saw your friends walk down the hall then I heard a dying animal,” he chuckled, referring to my scream fest, “By the way, I like what you’ve done with your hair.”

I quickly started to panic and took out my mirror. There was another scream coming because what I saw can be mistaken for a tumbleweed.

No, a tumbleweed looks much neater than the condition of my hair right now.

“Thank you,” I said dryly, “You can go now.”

I ran my fingers through my hair in an attempt to make it look a little better.

He shook his head and he even had the nerve to lean back on his chair and put his feet up on the desk in front of him, “Nah, I’m comfy right here.”

I sighed, I was too tired to argue so I grabbed a pencil and started to work on the papers. Starting tomorrow, the committee will start decorating the gym and I’m given the painful task of supervising them.

I glance at my side and saw that he was only turning with his phone. I stretched my neck and saw that he was playing this racing game and I found it quite amusing that he was leaning in with the device.

Because leaning with the phone will help make your car turn.

Though it piques my curiosity why he why he insist on staying here.

“Done staring?” he asked suddenly and I rolled my eyes again.

Gosh, I've been rolling my eyes a lot lately.

“Why don’t you just go home?”

“Like I said, I’m comfy right here,” he chuckled before turning his attention back to his phone and I groaned before returning to my work.

When it started getting dark outside, I decided that I don’t want to be locked in the school again so I started packing up my stuff. I stood up and looked at Drew who was in a heated game of temple run, “You coming?” I asked and he was jumped up in surprise, slightly throwing his phone in the air but he managed to catch it.

He looked at me before springing up from his chair and making his way to the door as I fell into step next to him.

“You brought your car with you this time?” he asked with amusement laced in his tone and I nodded, throwing him a dry look.

He sat alone during lunch and he doesn’t want to go home. Clearly there’s something wrong with this guy.

“Drew,” I called out his name and he turned his attention to me.

“Yes?”

“Why don’t you want to go home?”

All traces of happiness on his face disappeared and his expression turned into a grim one, “It’s none of your business.”

The tone he was using reminded me of the one he used last night before we got locked in. I frowned at his obvious displeasure of the subject.

“You could always sit with us if you want,” I offered, trying to lift up his mood, “I noticed that you ate alone.”

“You with cheerleader, dancer and volleyball?” he asked with a raised eyebrow.

He was right, he doesn’t look to be the type of who would be comfortable sitting with Jessica who was the captain of the cheer squad, Lillian who was the captain of the dance team and Annabelle who was the captain of the girls volleyball team.

As you can see, I have a bunch of talented friends; they just need a higher IQ.

“But…” I trailed of, thinking of a retort.

“Just don’t think about it!” he growled before stomping off down the hallway. I let out a strangled sigh before chasing after him but he’s too fast.

Damn high heels.

By the time I reached the parking lot, I already see his bike zooming out of view.

Celeste, why did you have to associate with him?
