Chapter Four

Awkward, uncomfortable, compromising, unpleasant… shall I go on?

Drew and I are currently inside the classroom where I’m sitting at the farthest corner away from him while he’s guarding the door so I couldn’t escape.

The fact that we just got locked in – again, if I might add – didn’t seem to faze him one bit. I on the other hand, got out of the phase of panic and my annoyance surfaced once again. I stubbornly went to this chair where I’m sitting on right now and proceeded to ignore him.

I’m silently praying that John comes to my rescue and release me from this tension filled room. It was already so dark outside and I’m incredibly sleepy due to the happening of today. Gym class was tough for me, I’m not exactly very athletic and we played dodge ball today. I got hit straight on the face, making my nose hurt all day.

Not to mention the fact I got little sleep last night because of this jerkass got me worried causing me to stay up. I got enough sleep to trust myself with my car today, but right now, I have no idea how I’m going to drive home.

I really could go for a cup of coffee right now. I stole a glance of Drew and he got his eyes trained on his phone, probably playing with some app.

I groaned before finally resting my head in my arms which was on the table and allowed sleep to conquer my sensed. I closed my eyes and blocked out the rest of the world.

I was moving, there was no doubt about it but I wasn’t walking. I feel my feet dangling and my head resting on something which I’m sure isn’t my arms anymore.

Slowly, I opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was brown hair. I tilted my head to the side and gasped when I realized I was being carried by Drew along the hallway. I started kicking and flailing my arms and he seemed caught off guard by this because he started losing his balance.

“Stop moving,” he growled as he bent down and I can feel the floor beneath my feet. He handed my bag and as much as I was annoyed at him, I should at least thank him that he didn’t just leave me inside that classroom.

“Thanks,” I muttered and he only nodded in response. I tried to rub the sleep away from my eyes with no such luck. I yawned and that didn’t go unnoticed by Drew.

“Are you going to drive alone in that state?” he asked, concern plastered on his face.

Drew is concerned? Pfft... Yeah right.

“Yeah,” I replied but I also fear for my safety. What if I fell asleep while driving and I suddenly crash into something causing my death?

When we got outside, the cold temperature helped wake me up a little but it also made me think of my warm bed back home.

I slapped my cheeks to help me wake up but the only thing I got from that is an amused look from Drew. I sighed and walked down the step of the school and headed for my car. Surprisingly, Drew was trailing right behind me.

When I took out my keys, he quickly grabbed it from my hands and I glared at him. Before I could say anything to protest his actions, he opened his mouth, “I’m not letting you drive where there’s a possibility that you could end up in the hospital. I’m driving you”

As much as I liked his concern, I reminded myself that I was still mad at this guy. I was about to tell him off when another yawn escaped my lips. Thinking about what he said, I only nodded and walked around to the passenger seat, “What about your motorcycle?”

He got inside and started the car, “I’ll just get it tomorrow,” he shrugged as he drove out of the school parking lot and into the streets.

We sat in the car in silence for a few minutes before he finally thought of breaking it, “Why are you mad at me?” he asked softly. So softly that it didn’t sound like the Drew Everett I know.

Now that you think of it, I don’t even know why I was mad at him. Why was I annoyed that he had a girlfriend when we weren’t dating in the first place? I had no right plus, I don’t even think he even consider me as a friend.

“I don’t know,” I mumbled, looking outside the window, “I guess I just got a little pissed that you didn’t tell me that you had a girlfriend.”

“I don’t have a girlfriend,” he said and I snapped my head to his direction.

“What?” I blurted out.

“I don’t have a girlfriend,” he repeated, “I don’t even have the guts to make friends.”

So Miss Runway was lying. I should really slap that bitch for making me worry over nothing. Maybe I’ll tell the janitor to wax the floors so she could slip while strutting.

Now I feel extremely guilty, I want to apologize but I yawned once again. Without any hesitation, I curled into a ball on my seat and pressed my head on the window.

Before I can drift into sleep, I felt the car stop and Drew pulled the keys out of the ignition. He got out and I followed the suit but you can guess I’m a little wobbly.

“I’m sleepy,” I stated the obvious and Drew shot me an amused look.

“You don’t say,” he said sarcastically.

In the apartment complex’s parking lot, there was a different entrance and as you can see, I’m not really into walking. I forced my legs to at least make it to the elevator so I won’t look like a complete fool in front of Drew.

I got inside and he only stood there, “I’ll see you tomorrow,” I smiled lazily.

He snorted, though he still made it sound attractive, “I hope not.”

I rolled my eyes and pressed my floor. I waved to him until the metal doors closed and I leaned against the wall, I seriously need to go to bed.

I skipped happily to the kitchen where Jazzy was currently whipping up some scrambled eggs, “Good morning, Celeste,” she greeted as she transferred the eggs to a plate and she handed it to me with a fork.

“Morning,” I chirped before oh so graciously devouring these eggs. I skipped dinner last night because the minute I stepped inside my apartment, I was dead tired.

Jazzy laughed at my expense and after finishing those eggs, I drowned a tall glass of orange juice and I was ready to head out, “Bye Jazzy.”

I heard her faint goodbye as I reached for the elevator. When the metal doors opened, I sprinted to the parking lot and into my car. I threw my bag to the back seat and started the engine.

I was trying to catch up with Drew before he reach the school because I felt extremely guilty for making him walk on a cold winter night because he left his motorcycle in school when he had to drive me last night.

When I stopped on a red stoplight, I suddenly remembered that I didn’t know where he lives. I don’t have his phone number either so I did the next best thing. I knew I’ll regret this but I took out my phone and dialed Jessica’s number.

If somebody will know where Drew Everett lives, it would be the gossip queen of the school.

“Hello?” I heard Jessica’s high pitched voice from the other line.

“Jess, do you know where Drew lives?” I asked and I started driving again when the light turned green. I don’t want to cause any morning traffic.

I could almost see Jessica’s smirk through the phone, “And why do you need his address?” she asked in a teasing voice and I rolled my eyes.

“I’ll tell you the details later,” I said and I can feel her victorious smirk.

I heard a few shuffling noises from the other line before she gave me his address and before she can ask any further, I hung up on her which I know I’ll regret when I get to school.

It turns out that Drew lives at the other side of town which made my stomach drop. Don’t tell me he walked here alone during the dark last night.

I stopped my car in front of a medium sized house. It has a white picket fence in front that was decorated with a layer of snow. I pulled my keys out and slid out of the car then walked to the front door.

I rang the doorbell and then the door came flying open. I was then face to face with a woman with chestnut brown hair that was pulled into a messy bun and was wiping her hands with a dish towel.

“Hi?” she greeted curiously. I don’t blame her, I would be slightly taken off guard when a stranger suddenly comes to your front door at seven-thirty in the morning.

“Hello,” I said, placing a sweet smile on my lips. I should at least convince her that I’m not a stalker and that my intentions are pure, “Is Drew around?”

She nodded before realization flicked in her eyes then a wide smile broke out on her face, “He’s here, why don’t you step in sweetheart, you must be freezing.”

She stepped to the side and opened the door wider so I could get in. I didn’t have any second thoughts because she was right, it was absolutely freezing outside.

“Do you want me to take your coat?” she offered but I shook my head.

“It’s fine,” and besides, I wasn’t going to be here long.

“Savannah, stop running before you get hurt!” an oh so familiar voice yelled followed by the thumping of footsteps and the next sight I saw was a little girl being chase around by Drew. She hid behind my legs while giggling madly and I could say it was contagious because I found myself smiling as well.

“Drew, you have a visitor,” the woman cleared her throat and that was when Drew acknowledged my presence for the first time.

“What are you doing here?”

“I’m giving you a ride,” I stated firmly as if I was giving him no choice but to oblige.

He examined my face before shaking his head. He looked at the woman and sighed, “I’m going to school mom.”

She shook her head and stopped his son from walking, “You haven’t eaten breakfast yet and why don’t you invite your friend to eat?”

He looked at me with pleading eyes, basically begging me to say no but I’m a sadist so I grinned, “That would be lovely, Mrs. Everett.”

She smiled at me, “Call me Ariel,” she said and I nodded before following her to a room where breakfast was set.

It looked so delicious and I had to check my cheek to make sure I wasn’t drooling. There were a huge stack of pancakes and a plate of bacons at the side, if my friends were here they were going to faint at the amount of fat those bacons have.

“I still don’t know your name,” she told me as she handed me my plate. I felt Drew stiffen beside me and I gave him a curious look before turning to his mother.

“I’m Celeste Graham.”

Her mouth fell open and she almost dropped the plate she was holding. She slowly placed the plate down on the table and crashed on one of the chairs, “Mom!” Drew suddenly stood up and went to Ariel’s side.

Did I do something wrong?

“Please,” Ariel whispered and I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion as she continued, “Don’t sue us.”

To say I was confused was putting it lightly. I felt like Cady from Mean Girls on her first day of public school.

What is she talking about?
