Chapter 9

Cassandra stared into the mirror of her bathroom. Her hair products covered her sink, dirty clothes were thrown haphazardly on the floor with a thick amount of steam that filled the bathroom. She frowned when she saw the mess she called her hair toppled on her head every which way.

She grabbed her brush and ran through her kinks, cursing her mother for the pain she caused for her thick hair gene that was passed down to Cassandra. To no avail, her hair wouldn't do what she wanted. Cassandra stomped her foot and grabbed all of the hair. She brushed the loose strands back until not a single strand was out of place. Cassandra took the hair tie from her counter and put her hair in a ponytail.

Her head hurt from the tight ponytail but she didn't care, her hair was too her standards. She put on what she considered makeup, or at least what she knew how to do without looking like a total clown. She applied her mother's mascara that she stole and bit of lip gloss from when that one time her friends convinced her to buy that she never used.

Cassandra walked into her bedroom and stared at her assortment of clothing options. Her hands went to her hips as she inspected her endless supply of clothes. It never took her very long to get dressed until late. She cursed herself for not finding an outfit for her date with Sebastian earlier. He was going to be there soon.

Too soon for Cassandra to be dressed in time and completely happy with her outfit.

Sebastian sat in the passenger's seat of Nick's car. The windows were rolled down to let the cool night air come into the hot car. Sebastian held flowers in his hand with a grin plastered on his face as they approached Cassandra's house.

"You know you're going to be early. Right?" Nick said. "In my experience women are always late to everything, so when we get there. We're going to be waiting at least an hour."

Nick checked his hair in the mirror. "No, knowing Cassandra she's already ready. Nick, she's not like all the other girls she's different."

Sebastian after school rushed home, he dressed in record time for his date with Cassandra that was at five that night. They agreed on the set time, much to Sebastian dismay. If it was up to Sebastian the date would have started as soon as class ended.

Sebastian knocked on Cassandra's door at 4:45.

She stood in front of her mirror with nothing but her underclothes on. Cassandra heard the door and grabbed her robe. She was unaware who was there, the first thing that came to her mind was her neighbor who forgot his key again, not Sebastian.

She opened her doors, her eyes widen when she saw her Prince Charming or how she knew him, Sebastian.

He was wearing a casual outfit but to her, he looked like the best thing in the world. "You're early?"

Sebastian looked at her short robe and took a step back. "I am, too early it seems."

She tightened her robe, "a bit." Cassandra moved out of the way to let Sebastian in. It was native to him now as of late due to him spending the week there, every day after school to hang out with Cassandra. She wanted them to get to know each other and Sebastian happily obliged.

Sebastian took a seat on the couch, "Isn't Nick taking us? He won't mind waiting?"

Sebastian looked at her bare legs, "no, Nick won't mind." Cassandra looked to Nick who was staring at his phone unaware of what was going on. Cassandra closed the door, "I'll be ready in a few," she said as she rushed back into her room. Cassandra stared at her open closet filled to the brim with clothes, most of which she didn't wear.

Her neck began to cover with sweat when she thought about Sebastian and her date. Cassandra grabbed her jeans and pulled them up over her butt. She shrugged to do it due to the newfound tightness of the jeans.

She pulled at the jeans until it got up to below her belly button. She turned in the mirror inspecting herself. She pulled out a shirt from her closet, cropped to appear a bit sexier she thought. She grabbed her shoes and slid them on, along with her socks of course for their bowling date. Cassandra looked in the mirror and spun, making sure every inch of her looked perfect. The feeling of uncertainly washed over her but it was too late for her to change.

She emerged from her room, Sebastian looked up when he heard her door closed. He took a gulp of his spit, "are you ready?"

"I am," she smiled. Sebastian never seen Cassandra dress like that, she wasn't the type to show off her newly forming curves or her ample breasts. But that night, it seemed as if he could see every curve and crevice of her body.

Sebastian and Cassandra slid into the backseat of Nick's car.

Nick let out a low whistle, "damn, Cassandra. If this date doesn't go too well maybe we could."

"Nick," Sebastian hissed which made Nick laugh.

"Calm down, I'm only joking. But, Cassandra you do look beautiful today."

"Thank you," she murmured.

Nick drove the two to the nearby bowling alley, it wasn't too far from Cassandra's. But the entire time Sebastian cursed himself for not having a car during Nick's drive there. Cassandra held onto Sebastian while Nick breezed through the traffic completely ignoring all traffic signs and regulations.

"I feel sick," Cassandra shuttered as she got out of the car.

Sebastian looked to Nick, "you couldn't have driven a bit slower."

"Hey, you can't judge a free ride." Nick put his car into reverse, "text me when you guys are all done," he said as he drove off.

Sebastian raised his eyebrow, "I guess he didn't want that burger after all." Sebastian looked to Cassandra and held her hand. Her breath hitched, as she stared down at Sebastian's hand. His hand engulfed her own. His hand wasn't sweaty like hers, she thought. It was dry, and a bit warm. He walked ahead, keeping a tight grip on her hand. She found herself easing into it, the feeling of his hands being entangled in her own.

"How many?" The bowling attendee said to the two.

Sebastian looked up, he bit the bullet and asked his parents for a little extra money to take Cassandra out tonight. He looked to the prices, "Five games?" He looked to her, "five games alright?"

"Sure," she agreed. She was too preoccupied with Sebastian's hand which was holding hers to even care.

"What size?" The bowling attendee asked Cassandra stared down at Sebastian's hands, unaware of what was just asked.

"Ten," Sebastian said. Cassandra said nothing, "Cassandra?"

Her eyes widen," what?"

"Your shoe size?"

"Oh, seven," Cassandra answered. The attendee passed the two their shoes, which made Sebastian drop Cassandra's hand. He grabbed the two pairs of shoes and walked to their lane. Cassandra watched his hand and looked at her own. She turned it into a fist and relaxed it. They took a seat next to one another.

"So, are you any good at bowling?"

"No," she said outright. "This is actually my first time."

"What? You've never been bowling. How is that possible?"

She shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know." Sebastian programed the names, he put Cassandra's name first under the name Cas. Then his own, titled Seb.

"It's really easy." He picked up a nearby ball and handed it to her, "too heavy?" He questioned.

She shook her head, "no, it's not too heavy."

He looked down at Cassandra, who was a few inches shorter than him, "good."

Cassandra walked towards the lane ball in her hands. She looked back at Sebastian who watched her. She held the ball up, like those times she saw in the movies. She bent over, with the ball in her hands. She brought it back, bringing the ball behind her. Cassandra brought the ball back and rolled it towards the pins. She closed her eyes when the ball left her hands.

Sebastian stared at her backside unaware of the ball leaving her hands until she stood up straight.

Cassandra opened her eyes, the ball turned to the right, right into the gutter. Cassandra's eyes fell out of her sockets while Sebastian laughed behind her. She turned, a frown present on her face as she looked at Sebastian.

"I suck," she exclaimed.

"It's alright. I am too," he lied.

Sebastian was in fact lying he was really good, he came to this exact bowling alley every day over the summer to blow off steam. The increase of seeing his parents caused him nothing but anguish.

Sebastian smiled at Cassandra, he walked up to her and hovered behind her. He held her hips. "But, I at least can help you knock down some pins," he murmured into her ear. Cassandra's ear burned when she felt his breath brush her ear. "Stand straight," she obeyed his instruction. He pressed his chest to her back, his pelvis on her butt.

"Okay," she muttered.

He put his hand over her own help her with the weight of the ball. He toes curled when he touched her. "Then, you bring your arm back. Make sure your hand is straight so it won't turn." Sebastian tried to ignore the stirring that was happening with Cassandra so close to him, while Cassandra tried to steady her heartbeat.

Cassandra brought her arm back, "make sure you use a bit of your strength, but not all of it."He held her as she let go of the ball. Cassandra closed her eyes, her mind not focused on the ball but on Sebastian.

"Spare!" The television announced.

Cassandra opened her eyes, completely surprised at what was just announced. She turned to Sebastian, their chests touched as she looked up at him. She smiled, and let out a squeal. "I knocked down the rest of the pins. Thanks, Sebastian."

He looked down at her, her beauty was too much for him to stare directly at her. He avoided her eyes, "congratulations." His face was red from Cassandra being too close and smelling of coconuts and vanilla.

Cassandra took a step back, realizing how close the two were. "Um, sorry for being so close to you."

"No need, to apologize. I liked it," he muttered loud enough for her to hear. Sebastian coughed, "Um, it's my turn now." Cassandra left his view and took a seat. She watched him bend over in front of her, his Calvin Klein underwear peaked a bit. Cassandra looked away but quickly turned back around to get another look.

"Strike!" The television announced.

Cassandra's eyes widen when the word strike was plastered on the screen. She completely forgot about his underwear that peaked at the top of his jeans. "What!" She screamed, "I thought you were bad at bowling. You lied!"

Sebastian shrugged his shoulders, followed by giving Cassandra a coy smile, "I didn't want to embarrass you."

"Sebastian!" She laughed.

Cassandra and Sebastian bowled until their five games were up, and every time Sebastian won. He got close to a perfect game until Cassandra pushed him a bit making him only knocking down nine pins.

"We should come here again," Cassandra laughed as she picked up a chili cheese fry from their plate.

"We definitely should," he took a sip of his soda and looked up at Cassandra. "Maybe for our next date?" He raised an eyebrow.

Cassandra looked down and back up to him. She smiled when she met his eyes, "definitely."

"So, that's a yes for our next date."

"Yes, it is."

Cassandra took a sip of her soda. "It seems like I'm getting one step closer, to making you my girlfriend Cassandra Campbell."

Cassandra put one leg over the other and took another fry, this time she dipped her fire into hot sauce before she put it in her mouth. The spicy liquid, that left a small burn in her mouth distracted her from the charming guy in front of her.

It was something about Sebastian, she didn't know if it was the way he talked or the way he looked. Or the way he could make her smile but Cassandra was falling for Sebastian and she didn't think she'll make it another day without making him hers.

A bit of chili on her chin made Sebastian smirk, "what?" she said.

"You have a bit of chili on your chin."

"Really?"

"Yeah," Sebastian got up from the table and leaned forward. He used his thumb to lightly brush the chili off of her chin. It was like the world stopped when he did this. They stared at one another, Cassandra stayed still as his finger was brushed up against her chin.

She wanted him to kiss her at that moment and he wanted to kiss her.

"Got it?" She asked breathlessly.

"Got it."

Sebastian sat back in her chair and stared at her. Cassandra was beautiful, and he couldn't wrap his head around why he didn't notice it when school first started.

Her beautiful hair that was never out of place, her brown eyes that reminded him of chocolate, the chocolate he watched her indulge in so often when he went to her house to watch movies. The way she smiled, he especially enjoyed seeing her do that.

It didn't seem real, the way she smiled. She managed to show all her teeth, gums included. Her eyes were always closed but she could still see. And her laugh, he liked that most about her. It wasn't annoying like others, he thought. It was unrestrained, and she didn't care who heard her. Sebastian especially loved her laugh when things were really funny, she would snort a bit and instantly stop making him laugh even more.

He liked her snorts, it reminded him of a baby pig.

The two decided to sit outside on the steps. They stared at the busy street ahead.

"Red car!" Cassandra pointed out. "Ha! That makes fifteen," she took a sip of her milkshake. "Bad choice, picking yellow. No, one drives yellow cars."

As soon as she said that, a line of taxis come into the bowling alley making her jaw drop.

Sebastian's eye raised, "hmmm, let me count. One, two..." Sebastian continued to count. "Sixteen taxi cabs. Which means, I'm ahead," he sings.

Cassandra pushed his shoulder, "what the hell? How? That-" she looked to the snickering Sebastian. "You knew!"

"No," he lied. "I'm just lucky."

"You suck," she joked. Cassandra sipped her milkshake and looked ahead at the elderly getting out of their taxis as Sebastian just kept looking at her, taking in all of his features during the summer night.

"So, what are some of your hidden talents?" Cassandra suddenly spoke up, taking him out of her trance she put him in.

"Hidden talents? I don't have one," he admitted. "Well, other than bowling," he said. "You?"

"Oh, other than singing. I can write anything backward on my first try," she smiled.

"Bullshit," he said. "That's impossible."

"Want me to prove it?"

"Sure, I don't mind seeing you embarrass yourself."

Cassandra raised her eyebrow and took a pen from her bag. "What do you want me to write?"

He tapped his chin, "how about... Sebastian kicked Cassandra's ass in bowling tonight."

She grabbed his bare arm without a second thought, "you mind?" she asked.

"No, I don't mind."

Cassandra began to write backwards. "Cassandra was cheated in bowling tonight," she read out loud as she wrote it backward.

Sebastian looked at his arm, the words were indeed backward and she didn't mess up a single letter. "Shit, you proved me wrong. Is there anything you can't do?"

"Bowl," she snorted making the two burst into laughter.

Sebastian looked to Cassandra, who had a permit grin on her face. Sebastian wanted to kiss Cassandra, at that moment. He wanted to feel her soft lips pressed against his. He gulped down the spit that formed in his mouth.

He touched her chin. Cassandra's eyes widen as his fingers touched her face. She looked towards him, she was so mesmerized with his eyes that she forgot about the game and what she said about the two taking things slow. He looked down at her plump red lips. He licked his own and took a good look at her. He moved his hands from her chin to her cheek. "Cassandra... can I kiss you?"

Her eyes widened for a second. It felt as if her heart stopped when the words came out of his mouth. She bit her lip and looked up at him.

She wanted to kiss him.

Cassandra nodded her head and Sebastian pressed his lips to hers. Cassandra closed her eyes while Sebastian's were barely open. They tilted their heads to get closer to one another. He finally shut his eyes and, it was like all of his senses stopped working except for one.

The feeling of touch.

The kiss wasn't long, five seconds tops.

But, it was long enough for the two to feel like they needed to do it again, this time a little longer, much longer.

Cassandra never thought the second time she would be kissed would be outside the bowling alley with pink fluorescent lights in the background. Fueled, by her writing a few words and chili fries.

Or her third being fueled by the need to be as close as possible to a guy she talked to for the first time a week ago.

But, she didn't regret it, not a single bit.

Sebastian pulled apart and stared at Cassandra, "so, I know last week you were going on about wanting to get to know each other more but after that kiss... can we say fuck it and be together?"

Cassandra smiled and nodded her head, prompting Sebastian to kiss her once more.
