Chapter 49

Sebastian ran a hand through his hair as he looked through his phone at his daily gaming news. He bit his lip as he read the newest updates to his current game he played with Simon.  Mia stood next to Sebastian and placed a chaste kiss on his cheek, grabbing his attention. "Why is it after eight months you always seem like you are in distress when you read those articles?"

"Well, when you hit ten thousand subscribers, and you can lose your world you've spent hours on with all of your gaming  friends who live in different time zones, that tends to happen." Sebastian took a sip of his coffee. The warm liquid gave him a bit of energy he needed. The night before, Sebastian was up until three am to appease Simon's timezone so he could sleep for once.  Mia looked up and hugged him hoping to give him a bit of energy from the hug.

"Ten thousand," she repeated. "That's a lot of people."

"Yeah, and we think by the end of the summer, it'll be twice that." He took in her scent and placed a kiss on the top of her head.

"You guys worked so hard for this. I'm proud of you guys. You know, I was thinking it would be a good summer job starting a Youtube channel up. I think you guys would do pretty well with enough effort."

Sebastian rested his chin on her head as he thought of the editing, the video schedule, and everything else that came with his newfound hobby.

"Maybe, if Simon is up to it." The thought of a Youtube channel surged his mind a lot. It was a semi-new concept recording himself playing video games. The biggest problem was what he would say? His most intriguing conversations came with others and not to mention his biggest laughs.

Sebastian had no idea if he was capable of such a commitment. A commitment that was high risk and maybe an even lower payout.

"You know I love Simon dearly, but you don't need Simon. You can do one of your own and feature him every once and a while or better yet. You two can make your own and make like a collab channel that you upload like streaming clips. That way, you won't have to be as committed."

Mia crossed her arms and looked up to Sebastian. She wore a smug smile when Sebastian began to process what his girlfriend of almost one year said. It was an idea that made sense, that would put less pressure on him.

"You're like the smartest person I know."

"I know, I know," she placed a chaste kiss on his lips. "So," she lingered a bit over his lips. "Since I'm the smartest person you know, and I'm sorta your girlfriend and all. Don't you want to ask me something?"

"Ask you something?" Sebastian tapped his chin. He knew what she wanted. He saw the way she looked in thrift stores at dresses. He can picture her in every single one who made his heart skip a beat at her excitement. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

Mia's eyes turned narrow, and she pointed to the nearby sign. "You know being coy is not your strong point, Sebastian. I'm just a girl who wants her boyfriend to ask her to prom."

"You want to go to prom?" He asked. She nodded her head. "You mean with the dancing, underage drinking, and the over expensive dresses and probably bad music?"

"Yes, yes, I do with every fiber in my being. Plus, I want to wear yellow and for you to put my corsage on awkwardly while my dad gives you a mean look the entire time. I'm talking the whole young adult shebang."

"Yellow? You want to wear yellow to prom?"

"What? It's my favorite color, and it looks good on me. Don't you agree?"

"I think everything looks good on you, Mia. Every single little thing," he said in between kisses. Mia's face began to heat when the words about how she looked.

"Hey, um, after prom. You wanna...you wanna get a hotel or something?"

Sebastian's eyebrow raised when the words came out of her mouth. "Are you serious?"

"Yeah, I think...I think I'm ready to do it with you now. You know...sex, full-blown, not just the fumblings now."

Sebastian's reputation for sex was screwed and wildly overdramatized. It included it being he was obsessed with it and needed it at every second of every day. For a time, it was true but now was not the case. He was too busy to have sex every second. His reputation didn't go well with his virgin girlfriend, who didn't want to do anything but hand stuff.

The rumors or the lack of sex didn't bother him.

He didn't mind waiting until Mia was ready.

Sex used to be a big deal. An activity that ruined his last relationship to the core. He didn't want to go through that. He wanted his relationship with Mia to go better, so he went at her pace.

"Are you sure?"

Mia nodded her head. "I don't think I'm more sure of anything else in the world Sebastian. I think I'm ready to take that plunge with you. So, you better make sure prom is awesome if you want a piece of this."

"Will do. I'll make sure it's the best night of your life Mia."

"You better," Mia kissed him and left in a flash.

~

Cassandra ran a curler through her hair as she sat in front of her vanity mirror. Michelle sat on the young girl's bed and watched her daughter work on her hair for prom. "I can't believe Adam is taking you to prom," Michelle commented. "I thought you would find some guy at that new school of yours."

"Well, I was asked by a few guys, but I much rather go with Adam. He is my best guy friend, and I want to have fun. This sorta thing is normal, mom."

"You kids are a lot different from my time. You go to prom with someone. It was like you two were married. I, for one, only went to my senior prom. My boyfriend at the time thought the junior prom was stupid, so I didn't go."

Cassandra half-listened to her mother as she applied her lipstick and looked at her mother. "How do I look?"

"Like, the most beautiful girl in the world," she smiled. Michelle got up from the bed and began to unwrap the dress that cost too much money for one night. "Can I be honest with you, Cassandra?"

"Sure," Cassandra began to spray her body with perfume.

"I hate to admit it, but  I think you moving here was the best decision you made in a very long time. You've become such a mature young woman."

"You think?"

"Considering everything that happened and how you are now. You're like a completely new person. You are doing better in school. You have some really great friends, and you seem like you've become more healthy as well. It makes me sad a bit that you've grown this much away from me, but now I see it was for the best." Michelle rubbed her shoulder.

Cassandra put on her robe and hugged her mother. "Mom, I love you. I want you to know the reason why I am who I am now is because of you. You did an amazing job raising me."

There were no words Cassandra could say. Her mother was right. Moving was the best thing for her. "God, you've grown so much. Did I ever tell you the story of how you refused to wear anything but heels for a week?" Michelle cried. "It was the cutest thing in the world."

"Mom, I would love to hear about it, but Adam is going to be here soon, and I need to put on my dress."

"Right, right." Michelle helped Cassandra slip on her dress. It fit snuggly but not too snug for Cassandra to be unable to move. The dress was a statement piece that went down her legs with a high slit. Cassandra's breast looked full and would warrant a second look from any person a mile away.

Cassandra stood in front of the mirror and smiled. "Yeah, I'm glad I went with this dress. I look amazing."

"Cassandra! Adam is here!" Cassandra let out a squeal and slipped on her heels. She stood at the top of the staircase and slowly descended. When her eyes locked to Adam's, he let out a loud whistle making her stop in her tracks.

"You're an idiot," she laughed through the flickers of pictures.

Everyone was there to send her off—a sight she hadn't seen since moving in with her grandparents. Aurora stood to the side, letting out a coy smile. Walter's face is turned up into a smile while Bree took pictures one by one. Her heart especially warmed when she saw her grandparents hand in hand, staring at the beauty that is their granddaughter.

Cassandra took her place next to Adam and smiled for the cameras.

"So, I had no idea you could clean up this well," Adam whispered in her ear in between flashes. "You're gonna totally ruin my chances of getting a girlfriend."

"Who knows, you might get lucky if you buy me a steak," Cassandra joked.

"All it takes is a steak? Maybe the rumors about you are true." Cassandra scoffed and smiled into the camera. Bree approached Cassandra and moved a piece of her hair. "It's your turn next week. Can I admit that I'm more excited for yours than mine?" Cassandra took Bree's phone and took a selfie.

"You can admit it, but you're the only one that feels that way, friend." Bree stopped and looked at her friend. "You look, magnificent Cassandra. If I were a guy, I would do anything to have a night with you."

"Thank you," she smiled before placing a kiss on Bree's lips. Cassandra looked at her phone. "Okay, everyone, me and Adam have to go now. We don't want to be late." Cassandra took Adam's hand and rushed to the car, with her dress in tow ready for her night she would never forget.

~

Sebastian laid in bed. His fingers scrolled down the timeline. He liked every picture and stopped when he saw her. It wasn't the first time he saw her on his timeline. She had a habit of posting pictures once a week. Some were small, like a song lyric or of a selfie with her new friends.  But, it was the first time he saw her so dressed up.

Prom was the only thing captioned under the photo. Sebastian turned his body and stared at Cassandra's photo. He took in her features one by one. He found himself reaching out in his bed—a place she used to sleep so soundly every day.

He sucked in his breath and wondered if she thought of him still.

Did she forget about their love story? Was it bitter for her? Or was it something that could have worked? Sebastian still had a part of him that would forever care for Cassandra Campbell.

She was his first love.

Sebastian took a second and double-tapped her picture and continued to scroll.

~

Prom was something that Cassandra had no idea would be so fun. She danced her night away with Adam to toe. Her dress swung, making it look as if she was a goddess on the dance floor of her school.

"Can we get food?" Cassandra laughed as the last song played.

"Sure," sweat beat on his forehead while Cassandra looked as if nothing affected her at all. "Let me just pick up our key chains and go."

She took a seat and watched him shimmy through the crowds. She looked through her phone and saw the number of likes: three hundred, a little above average for her. She took a second glance at the liking of her prom picture. The breath in her chest escaped her. She fumbled with the block button but stopped.

He's only nice, she thought. There's nothing deeper there.

Adam approached her and smiled. "It's like a madhouse there. I'm ready to go. I'm starving for some food."

Cassandra took Adam's hand and rushed to the car to the nearby diner. "Prom was way more fun than I expected," Adam said with a mouth full of food.

"Hell yeah, it was. The dancing, the music, the lack of drama. Way better than my last one."

"Yeah, everybody went home with all their windows."

"Oh, shut up. I wish I never told you that." She stared down at her food. "You know he liked my picture...Sebastian"

"So what?" Adam said with a mouth full of cow meat.

"Do you think..."

"Cassandra, he was nice, or he just did it subconsciously. Trust me. It's not a big deal. Now eat your food and get your stomach ready for a bunch of underage drinking that we will regret in the morning."

Cassandra bit her lip and nodded.

The liked picture meant nothing, just a nice thing to do, she told herself.

Cassandra rested her head on Adam's shoulder as she laid in the back of the Uber with alcohol-filled in her system. "Best prom ever!" Cassandra yelled in the back seat of the Uber. In their drunken state, the two teens realized drunk driving was a no go and took an Uber to Cassandra's house.

When the two teens arrived, red flashing lights surrounded Cassandra's home. Her head turned, and her drunken state felt as if it disappeared in an instant. She exited the car she clenched the end of her dress to run to the front door. Men she had no idea rushed were inside of her grandparent's home.

She looked to the one person she recognized, whose face was hallow.

"Grandma," she cried. "Whar's going on?"

Cassandra's grandmother looked up at her granddaughter, who was furious for answers and cried. "He's dead," she stated. "Your grandfather is dead," she repeated.

~

Sebastian tapped his fingers against the steering wheel. He stared at the home that resided ten cars outside. He grabbed the corsage. The hotel room key he got the night before burned in his suit jacket. He was excited and nervous about the night with Mia.

He got out of his car slowly and approached the house. He adjusted his suit and pushed back the loose hairs. He knocked on the door and saw her. He had no idea what she would look like. He only knew that she would be wearing yellow.

He did not expect the girl whose breasts weren't that large pressed up as if they were. He wasn't used to seeing her in a full face of makeup or long hair. Her lashes were long, and her lips were plumped. He wanted to kiss her immediately, but the view of her parents stopped him.

"You look...wow," he started. "I-" he placed a hand over his mouth.

Mia began to chuckle. "Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself, Sebastian." Mia grabbed Sebastian's arm and led him into the house. Eyes surrounded him, and all he managed to do was wave at her parents. It was awkward with the knowledge he would be taking her virginity that night. "Okay, you guys have five minutes for pictures, and then my date and I are leaving," Mia announced.

Mia placed Sebastian's hands on her waist quickly and smiled, prompting Sebastian to do the same. After flashes, cameras, and a strong hand on Sebastian's shoulder. The two teens fled to the car. Mia's chest rumbled with anticipation. She held back her shaking until they arrived at prom.

A night in Vegas.

Sebastian walked through the double red doors with Mia attached to his arm. She couldn't hold back her shaking. She grabbed at his arm and went to the empty picture stand. She placed his arms around her.

Sebastian led her to the dance floor. It was as if Mia had two left feet, but she had fun regardless. He spun her in the middle of the dance floor. She was like a sunflower among the crowd of people. A sunflower that was all his. The music slowed, and he pulled her close. Their body was pressed together.

Sebastian placed a hand on her lower back and placed his face in the crook of her neck. She could feel his breath, making goosebumps form on her warm body. She swallowed her spit and pulled away.

"Sebastian," she started. "I- can we get out of here?"

Sebastian's eyebrow raised, "you sure? There's an hour left." Mia merely nodded.

"Yeah, I want to do this. I'm ready."

"Okay, let's go." Sebastian looked to his left and then right before he grabbed Mia's hand and left prom. They arrived at the hotel. The room was cold when they walked in. The hotel room was nice, nicer than the two teens expected. A king-size bed sat in the middle with a huge closet and dresser. A huge mirror covered a wall.

Mia stood to the side. She rubbed her shoulder. "So, how should we...I—"

Sebastian let out a low chuckle and pressed his chest against Mia's back. "Just relax and enjoy yourself," he told her. "I'll go slow, and I'll stop when you tell me. Everything is up to you. I'll go your pace."

Mia turned her body to face Sebastian fully. She took off her shoes one by one and kissed him. Sebastian lifted her from the ground—his lips still on hers. He gently placed her on the bed and stared down at her.

"Mia, I love you," he admitted.

Mia smiled. "I love you too, Sebastian."

Sebastian and Mia's clothes began to come off one by one, and Mia gave Sebastian all of her without a warrant or protest.

Mia laid next to Sebastian. She heaved under the covers as she stared up at the ceiling. "So that was sex?"

"Yeah," Sebastian said with closed eyes. "It gets better. I'm sorry if it hurt."

"It's fine. I expected it to. Plus, you went slow, so it wasn't too bad." Mia turned her body completely to look at Sebastian. "Did it...was it good for you?"

Sebastian pulled Mia close to his body. "Yeah, it was. So good that I could do it a hundred more times and never be tired of it."

"You're an idiot," she laughed in his chest. Her stomach began to rumble.

"Looks like someone is hungry."

"Yeah, I haven't eaten since yesterday. I was afraid I wouldn't fit into my prom dress."

"I can go get you something. There's a diner not too far. I'll be real quick."

"Really? You'll do that for me?"

"Yeah, and besides. You're gonna be making it up to me when I get back." Mia's turned a bright shade of pink before she buried her head under the covers. Sebastian got out of bed and put on his pants and shirt. "I'll be back before you know it."

He left the hotel and drove to the nearby diner. He ordered food for himself and Mia—enough to fill five men. "It'll be about twenty minutes," the waitress told him.

He took a seat at a nearby booth and began to look around the semi-empty diner. His eyes landed on her, sitting alone in a hoodie three sizes too big on her. Even with her hoodie up, he would know who she was.

He hadn't seen her face to face in a year. She still had beautiful hair that peeked from the hood. Acne hadn't had its way with her like others in school, and she was still as beautiful as ever sitting in a diner at ten at night with a sundae in front of her. She took a bite. A giant tear fell from her face.

Sebastian swallowed his spit. Every fiber in his being told him to leave, not to say anything to her, but he got up and took a seat across from her. Tears were an understatement, to say the least. Cassandra was crying hysterically. She muffled the sounds with each spoonful of ice cream. One by one, she stuffed herself in an attempt to make herself feel normal, a little better.

"Cas," he started making her lookup. "Are you okay?"

He had no idea of the ongoings of Cassandra. He knew she left and went to a new school but nothing more than that.

Cassandra wanted to say she was fine. That everything in her life was better and that she was doing amazing, but it wouldn't come out. Are you okay? One question that she was asked a million times in that one week had even more impact when asked by him.

"No," she cried. "Not at all."

Sebastian hurried to Cassandra's side, and before he realized what he was doing, he was hugging Cassandra in the middle of the diner as she cried in his arms.
