Chapter 45

Cassandra Campbell was now in a relationship with her music teacher. A secret she held close for an entire month. It was exciting having him as her secret that no one knew about. The sneaking, the secret late-night calls, and the thrill of any moment a person could walk through the door and screw everything up. She dwelled on the thought of telling Bree, the closest person in her life right now. But her wants quickly went away when she shared them with Vincent.

It was met with an argument and the complications that would surely come. Complications that Vincent drilled into her head being jail time if the wrong person found out. Cassandra's eyes widen at the realization. She didn't want him to go to jail. She wanted him by her side forever. She merely nodded her head, confirming the secret.

She was left with a constant itch that wouldn't be scratched. Every time she saw Vincent, she wanted him. She gave him sly smirks during class and when the final bell rang. When the final bell rang and the locking of the door. Cassandra laid on top of the piano with Vincent pounding into her.

There were three places they would have sex. The classroom, Vincent's car, and her favorite being his bed. She enjoyed his little apartment on floor number two. It wasn't much of a place. He didn't have a high rise view or neatly painted walls, or much furniture to be more exact. It was a studio. He had just a pullout couch that was never just a couch and had a habit of not doing dishes or cleaning, for that matter. Her nose would instantly fill with old pasta and food from Lucia's when she came in.

Cassandra had a habit of approaching the sink and washing the dishes one by one. An act that would result in Vincent staring at her bare legs that weren't covered by his shirt very well. "You are amazing," he whispered in her ear.

"This is nothing. Wait until I tackle on that bathroom of yours," she smiled.

His apartment felt like her apartment. She could walk around the studio apartment naked without the worry of his parents coming in. She was no longer confined to only a room. The slightest of noise didn't make her feel as if she would jump out of her skin. She was safe in the confines of Vincent's home.

Vincent picked her up and placed her on the counter. She raised an eyebrow. "Here?"

"You would be a perfect housewife. The cooking, the cleaning," he looked around his apartment. "You're perfect."

Cassandra's heart skipped a beat. She wanted to do two things. She wanted to clean the entire apartment and open her legs to Vincent once again.

~

Sebastian waited near Cassandra's first period. The last few weeks, he couldn't muster up the courage to talk to her. Every time he saw her, he could only see her face breaking up with him or telling him once again to leave him the hell alone. A loud familiar laugh made Sebastian turn his head.

Cassandra walked down the hall, with her gaze, never leaving her phone. Her skin radiated with a smile covering her entire face. He took one step and then stopped, and finally, he walked towards her. Cassandra overlooked Sebastian until he opened his mouth the greet her. Before, she would notice him in a crowd of a thousand people, but now that was not the case. The hairs on her arms stood tall.

"Hey," she said. He could hear her surprise in her voice.

Before their breakup, the mere thought of Sebastian speaking with her made her sick, but she felt nothing. Sebastian didn't have a trace in her mind for quite a while. But for Sebastian, it was quite the opposite she left a mark on him that couldn't be erased no matter how hard he tried.

"Hey, Cas. How are you?"

"Fine, I'm fine." Cassandra looked down at her feet and then looked up to him again. "Can I ask why you're outside of my classroom?"

"Oh," he cleared his throat. His face was hot. "Yeah, I—I was actually looking for you."

"Okay...why?"

He pondered why he wanted to speak with her. His entire plan of getting back together felt useless when he stood in front of her. Cassandra looked up to Sebastian, her big brown eyes made his body stiffen, and he went silent. "Well, God, when did it get so hard to talk to you," he whispered to himself.

She tilted her head. She had no ill will towards Sebastian. She had no hate for him or his family. She did not want to be with him anymore, even more so when she had Vincent. Her older, more mature boyfriend listened to her and communicated with her in ways teenage boys could never.

"Um," he started. "I—I had some of your stuff at my house."

Her eyes widen, "really? Oh, I think I have a bit of your stuff too. How about tomorrow we can exchange."

A ping went off in his heart at how easily the words came out of her. "Sure," he muttered as he walked away from her without a second word.

Cassandra watched as his figure got smaller and smaller. She straightened her back when he was out of her field of view and went into her classroom. Class ended quickly, much to her delight. Cassandra rushed to Vincent's room. She looked around the room for any lingering students.

Vincent sat at his desk, along with a series of papers on his desk. He didn't have much longer at the school. It was now March, a month since he started his relationship with Cassandra—two more months until he finished his internship. Cassandra locked the door.

Vincent turned his chair to look at Cassandra as she began to strip from her clothes. "When we were in class today, all I wanted to do was kiss you," she murmured as she approached him. Cassandra took her seat on his lap and began to kiss his neck.

"I know, me too," he groaned. "I can't wait until I finish teaching here and move." Cassandra separated from his neck and stared down at him.

"Move? What do you mean?"

Vincent placed his hands on her hips. "I'm moving after I graduate."

"You are? Why? Why haven't you told me yet?"

"It's not a big deal."

"Not a big deal? We're together! I'm your girlfriend. You're moving!" Cassandra got off of Vincent and began to put her shirt on. Vincent reached out to grab the teenage girl's hand.

"Cassandra, please don't be childish." Childish, a word she didn't want to be described as, especially with her much older boyfriend. He got up from the chair. "I'll be here every weekend when I move and when you graduate, we can live together."

Cassandra wiped her head towards Vincent, who was now stood in front of her. "You mean that?"

A grin began to form on his face. "Of course."

~

Sebastian ran a hand through his hair and examined his phone once more. He looked at another video he loved Cassandra. It was when they were fourteen, just freshly hanging out with one another. A time he wanted them to be more than friends, and she had no idea or well too frankly unaware of the fact. She stood in front of him, in front of her television.

A music video that was quite popular during the time played. Cassandra mimicked all the dance movies and the song. He enjoyed the video not because of the elusive dance moves but of the carefreeness of it all. Cassandra was happy, and in turn, Sebastian was delighted.

Sebastian locked his phone and approached the one place he knew Cassandra would be—the music room. He turned the knob, but it wouldn't open. The hallways were now empty, so no one witnessed the rendevous that could be seen through the tiny door window. Sebastian's body froze when he saw Cassandra. Her lips were pressed against a man too old for her. A man he never thought in a million years could be the person she decided to be with after him.

Her smile that he'd wish to see her do everyday was now for him. His legs moved faster than they ever had before. He raised his foot and kicked open the door, breaking the lock.

Cassandra was the first to see Sebastian. Her eyes widen then a scream escaped her lips when Sebastian threw Vincent to the ground. Cassandra pleads for him to stop unheard of throughout the halls.  The basketball players were long gone, and Sebastian intended on being with her in an empty school.

Sebastian's fists connected with Vincent's face. "You disgusting fucking." Tears befell Cassandra's face as she watched Sebastian's onslaught on Vincent's face. Cassandra pulled at Sebastian's back, pulling him away. She had never seen him fight before. She heard of them, even patching a few of his wounds after a locker room scuffle. But she had no idea the damage Sebastian was capable of doing to another person.

"Sebastian, stop it!" Cassandra screamed. Her tears came fast as she pulled at Sebastian to let go of Vincent. Vincent could do nothing but cover his face to avoid a broken or fractured nose. Cassandra, to no avail, could stop him. Blood covered Vincent's face, Sebastian's body seethed with rage as he looked at Cassandra. She was now on in front of Vincent, covering him from Sebastian.

Cassandra forced her way in between Sebastian and Vincent, prompting Sebastian to stop immediately. No matter the rage seething through him, with the sight of Cassandra's crying face, his body forced him to stop.

"You're protecting him?" Sebastian barked.

He reached for Cassandra. She used all of her strength, pulling her away from him, seeking solace in the arms of Vincent.

"Sebastian, you don't understand what's going on," Cassandra cried.

"Don't understand? It's pretty fucking obvious what's going on. You're screwing your teacher Cas. He's a fucking pedophile."

"He is not a pedophile. I'm almost sixteen, and he's only twenty-two," she screeched.

"Cas, do you hear yourself!?" Cassandra went silent. She had nothing to say to Sebastian. There was no way for him to understand.

"Sebastian, please don't tell," she said.

Sebastian stared her in the eyes and left without a single word.

Cassandra watched him leave and took a knee on the ground with a badly hurt Vincent. "Vincent," she started, which was met with a grunt.

"Get off me," he yelled. Cassandra immediately took her hands away from him. "Damn it, damn it. This was stupid, so goddamn stupid of me to do this."

"Vincent," she tried to put on a smile, but her tears made it hard for it to make Vincent feel better. "Everything is going to be alright."

"Are you stupid? Sebastian is going to tell someone, and I'm going to go to jail. Fuck!" Vincent began to pick up his things on the desk. "I need to call someone. I need to get out of here." He rushed out of the room without giving Cassandra another glance. Cassandra watched him leave, and she fell to the ground. Her breathing quickened, and the room began to spin.

~

Sebastian drove with no destination in mind. He was too busy thinking about Cassandra and Vincent. His phone began to ring, and he knew immediately who it was.

He clicked his car to answer the phone.

"Where are you?" Cassandra bellowed. He could hear her voice was strained.

"Why does it matter to you?"

"Because...because we need to talk, Sebastian."

"Talk about what? Because the only thing we should be talking about is how long should he be in jail for?"

Cassandra sat on the dusty music room ground. "Jail? Sebastian, stop it. Please, he doesn't deserve that."

"He does, Cassandra. He's a damn pedophile. A fucking weird guy who can't date a girl his own age and goes after girls like you."

"Girls like me? Girls with daddy issues who guys can fuck anytime they want like you."

"Cas..."

"Because that's not the case. He cares about me, and I care about him."

"He doesn't," Sebastian retorted. " Because I care about you. I care about you so much that I'm going to make sure that sicko leaves you alone. Dammit Cas, why can't you see he's just using you."

Cassandra took a deep breath; her voice was strained. "Sebastian, if you ever cared about me. You won't do this. You'll keep this a secret for me. Please!" Sebastian clicked the red button and stopped driving. He laid his head on the steering wheel. He took a mental note of the cars going by him one by one.

Sebastian started his car and drove to the one person he knew would set Cassandra straight. His clothes were disheveled when he entered the hospital. "Hi, can I speak with Michelle Campbell?" The receptionist and Sebastian and immediately made the call.

Michelle rushed to the front desk and looked at the weary-eyed boy. "Sebastian?" Her eyes became glossy. "What happened? What happened with Cassandra?" She placed her hands on the teenager's shoulders and looked him in the eyes. "Nothing...can we talk?"

Michelle followed Sebastian to the bench that stood outside of the hospital. "Sebastian, what's wrong? Is Cassandra pregnant? Is that it? God! I told her to use protection." She put her hands to her face. "Is she in the car and watching?"

"No," he admitted. "Cassandra and I have been broken up for two months now, so if she's pregnant, it's no chance at being mine."

"What? You two broke up again?"

"Yeah."

Michelle placed a comforting hand on Sebastian's shoulder. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for asking this, but why are you here?"

"Mrs.Campbell. I- I want to talk to you about Cassandra's new boyfriend."

Michelle let out an exasperated sigh. Her mind trailed to the obvious answer or words she thought he would say. Sebastian was jealous, and he wanted her mother to do something. "Sebastian, I don't think tha—"

"Cassandra is sleeping with her teacher." Michelle stopped and stared at the boy with wide eyes. "She's been with him for I don't know how long, but he's been teaching at our school since January. He's twenty-two, and they've been spending time after school since he's started."

"I- what? You're joking. There's no way, Cassandra would never."

"I saw it myself, Mrs.Campbell. They were together, and Cassandra's shirt was off, and I beat the hell out of him; she was crying, and I don't know what else to say or who to go to. I would call the cops, but then she started crying, and I can't listen to her cry because I would do anything for her. But...but this is wrong, and I don't want him to hurt her. I know how guys like that think and all they want are her body, and they would toss her aside."

"What is his name?"

"Vincent Bautista," he answered truthfully.

Michelle didn't bother knocking on Cassandra's door. "Your teacher? Really Cassandra!" Michelle yelled. The home was empty, so her yells couldn't be heard from her stepsister and stepdad. Cassandra was silent. She was no stranger to her mother's screams. But it felt foreign when it was directed towards her.

"Mom," she started. "He's only twenty-two. He's not as old as Sebastian probably made him out to be. He's not some forty-year-old weird old with some teenage fetish. He's a college student who is really smart and talented and has helped me so much."

"I don't care who he is. I don't care if he's a college student. You're sixteen!"

"I'm a woman, mom. I can make these decisions."

"A woman," she started. "A woman? You're a child, Cassandra, who is being used by an older guy, and I thought my daughter would be smart enough to realize that."

Cassandra's fists balled. "You know children don't take themselves to school every day since they were eight. Children don't cook dinner for themselves every night and clean laundry for their mom, who isn't home. Children don't go to the mall by themselves to buy an important performance dress. Children don't have to figure out how to use a pad on their own because their mom is too busy screwing a guy or at work."

The words resonated in Michelle in ways she had no idea. Michelle straightened her back, "you are grounded. If I see or hear or even think you're having any interactions with that man again. I will call your stepfather and put him in jail and get his name on one of those lists." Michelle slammed Cassandra's door.

Cassandra grabbed her phone and dialed Vincent's number. His cellphone went immediately to voicemail, further putting Cassandra in a pit of despair she had no idea she could go to. Her fingers traced to Sebastian's number. Three rings before he answered the call, he dreaded to get.

"I hope you're happy now. You took away the one shred of happiness I had left Sebastian. You know I hate you. I hate you much that it hurts. If I had any regrets, it would be letting you kiss me." Cassandra hung up the phone without letting Sebastian say a single word.
