Chapter 23

Cassandra's jaw dropped when she saw Vicky and Sebastian, hand in hand, strolling into the first day of school together. She grabbed his arm and leaned into it, basking in Sebastian's arm. Cassandra didn't know what to say at the spectacle. One of her good friends was now dating her ex-boyfriend.

An ex-boyfriend who had a well known long summer string of lovers and even more well known messy breakup with Cassandra.

Cassandra knew nothing of the relationship, like the other student body she found out the day they walked through the double doors hand in hand.

"No fucking way."

"That lucky bitch."

"Cassandra is going to kill them," someone whispered.

It was common knowledge that Cassandra had a small group of friends that included Amy, Gabrielle, and Vicky. The four weren't tight, they had a group chat and they ate lunch together every day. They wouldn't talk one another and if one of them were sad, they'll lend them a shoulder to cry on.

They were friends

And friends didn't date friends ex-boyfriends.

Cassandra took a step back as the couple got closer to her. She had so many questions, the biggest being, what the hell was going on?

Cassandra's fist clenched when her eyes met with Vicky's. Vicky knew what he did to her, it was something the four of them discussed many times. A discussion that ended with Cassandra crying and her friends comforting her through a tiny screen on her phone.

Vicky laughed under her breath as she held onto Sebastian. Vicky felt like a queen when she was next to Sebastian, the stares. The whispers, the envy, she reveled in the attention. She tightened her hold on Sebastian as the walked closer to Cassandra.

Cassandra's world began to slow as the two girls made eye contact. She saw the humor in her face, the lack of remorse in her eyes for betraying Cassandra. She sucked in her breath and her jaw clenched as they passed her.

She heard their footsteps get further away. Her face turned red, her chest began to burn hot and her breathing began to feel haggard. Cassandra's legs moved on their own.

"Wait!"

Sebastian stood tall, he refused to look back while Vicky gladly turned. Cassandra heaved and took a good look at the two. The halls went silent, "are you serious? What is going on? Are you guys together?"

"Yeah," Vicky smiled. "What of it? Aren't you dating Phillip? Why would you care?" She tightened her hold on Sebastian's arm. His face was stern, she was dating Phillip and she knew he had no right to be hurt, but he was. It pained him to find out she was dating another guy. It pained so much, that instead of taking back what he agreed to in the back of his car, he went with it.

He agreed to date Vicky.

Sebastian clenched his open and hand and turned towards Cassandra. She looked him dead in the eyes. Eyes that refused to show any remorse.

The two turned and continued to walk the hall. Cassandra ran a hand through her hair and went back to her locker. The lingering students stared at her "they hell are you all staring at," she shouted followed by her slamming her locker door. The sound echoed through the halls.

Cassandra readjusted her books in her hand and proceeded to walk down the hall. She could barely breathe, her chest heaved with anger. The tight-fitting white shirt she wore followed the path of her chest. She didn't understand what was going on or why it was happening.

One thing for certain, she hated Vicky as much as she hated Sebastian.

Cassandra walked to her first class, the stares still lingered. Ever since she threw her shoe at Sebastian at the party. Rumors circulated that she was quick-tempered with a mean arm.  The party-goers that night shared the video among all forms of social media which spread the misinformation that Cassandra Campbell had a short fuse.

The lingering stares riled her up throughout the day. All of her classes were filled with students she saw before but never talked to. She ignored the vibrations of her phone that said the same thing.

Are you okay?

She's a bitch

Where are you?

The four girls sent each other their class schedules. The four had lunch together, much like last year but this time it was the entirety of the sophomore class. It was a new idea, Principal Riveria had to combat the wave of freshman girls who were sleeping with seniors resulting in teen pregnancies, fights and heartbreak. She thought the idea of completely cutting interactions out would help the young blossoming young ladies.

Instead, it would cause pandemonium during its first day of being instated.

Cassandra walked into the lunchroom, her book bag was now in her locker. Her cellphone was tucked comfortably in the back of her jean mini-skirt. Aurora saw her step-sister in the doorway of the lunchroom. She left the line and went towards her, "you haven't been answering any of my text messages."

"I know," she muttered.

"If you're looking for Sebastian and Vicky. I haven't seen them, and believe me I've been looking for those two assholes since I overheard the gossip about the two. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, I just want to talk to Vicky."

"Talk to her as in killing her? Because I'll help you hide the body."

"No, I just want to talk." Cassandra practiced her breathing techniques, they helped her with the unyielding rage that began to build up ever since she and Sebastian broke up. In the corner of her eyes, she saw her.

Vicky

Cassandra moved Aurora aside and walked towards Vicky. Sebastian wasn't there due to his rule of never rushing anywhere but the prince was almost there. "Vicky," Cassandra said. Her arms were crossed over her chest, with her head tilted.

Vicky's eyebrow raised, she turned around toward Cassandra. Cassandra was a few inches taller than Vicky, yet Vicky was a bit heavier than her.

"Yes?"

"Can we talk?"

"Sure."

Vicky put down the apple and walked off with Cassandra. Aurora stayed close behind, "stay here," Cassandra commanded.

"But," Aurora scowled at Vicky.

"We're just going to talk," she said calmly. Cassandra walked out of the lunchroom with Vicky behind her. Vicky revealed in the stares she was getting from everyone, stares that Cassandra was used to already. The two girls stood in the halls, Vicky settled her back on the wall.

"So, what did you want to talk about?"

When Cassandra looked at Vicky, it was like she was looking at a completely new person. She wasn't the same girl from middle school who would make Cassandra watch makeup tutorials for hours and was quick to give complements. She was different, in the summer they hadn't seen each other, it was as if that person was completely gone.

"You're dating Sebastian?"

"Yeah, we've been together for almost two months now."

"Two months," Cassandra repeated. "Two months," she said a bit louder. "You know what he did to me. Vicky, he's a dick. He broke up with me because I wouldn't fuck him."

"Right...well that's not a problem for us."

Cassandra stumbled back, "wait... did you two," she started.

"Yup, every day. Hell, in the car before we came into school this morning. I don't quite understand why you wouldn't have sex with him. You really missed out, he's amazing." Cassandra began to feel sick. Vicky stared at the now green Cassandra, who didn;t say another word. Her mind filled with the image of her friend and ex together, having sex. Vicky stretched her arms, letting out a loud crack filling the silence.

"Well, if that's all you had to say. I'm going to go back to my lunch. No hard feelings, right? I don't think we should continue being friends because... well I'm dating Sebastian and all. It would be a little weird." Vicky kicked herself from off the wall, "well, I'm glad that's over with."

Cassandra clenched her fist, this wasn't right, she thought. Vicky was her friend and friends didn't date their friend's ex-boyfriends. "Wait," she muttered. Cassandra's face scrunched. "You're not even going to apologize."

"For what? You two weren't together and besides aren't you with Phillip. Why would I need to apologize for going after a single guy."

Phillip and Cassandra made their relationship official a few weeks ago, she didn't tell anyone other than her close friend group that included Vicky. "Because he was my ex-boyfriend that fucked me over," Cassandra said a little louder.

"Fucked you over? If anything, you ruined you guy's relationship because you're a prude."

Cassandra stumbled back, "prude? Are you being serious? I'm a prude because I didn't want to have sex with a guy! Do you hear yourself?"

"Whatever, I don't feel like arguing with you. I'm hungry."

"Of course you are," Cassandra said.

Vicky wasn't a chubby girl, she was a few pounds above average but it was enough to make her subconscious about it. She didn't understand the fact that the female weight averages came from the body type of a white woman from the early 1900s.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Cassandra folded her arms, "nothing."

"Are you calling me fat?" Vicky scoffed.

Cassandra thought about her next move. She could be the bigger person and walk away, be done with the Cassandra and Sebastian story. Start, her perfect highschool romance with Phillip and eventually marry him. Make Sebastian, and their love story a memory.

A beautiful memory that would one day be forgotten.

"Well, if the shoe fits," Cassandra laughed.

Vicky walked towards Cassandra. Her fist was clenched, she pulled her arm back but stopped. "You know what, you're not even worth my time. I'm leaving," Vicky snide. She turned to get a good look at Cassandra.

"I always thought you and your mom were the exact same person, talented, hard-working beautiful.  But, it was furthest from the truth. You're a prude and your moms a whore."

Cassandra lunged for Vicky, "you bitch," she screeched.

"Jealous bitch," Vicky yelled under Cassandra. Cassandra pulled at Vicky's hair as Vicky scratched at her to get her off.

"Jealous, I have nothing to be jealous of," she cried out. Tears began to spew out of Cassandra's eyes as the two girls rolled on the floor. It wasn't tears of sadness, Cassandra was frustrated.

She wanted Vicky to hurt more, more than she had hurt her.

Sebastian did not feel good, to say the least. His relationship with Vicky was revealed that day. If it was up to him, no one would know. He didn't want the drama that came with being with her that he knew was bound to happen.

Sebastian walked towards the lunchroom, he heard the yells of a familiar girl. He rushed towards the screaming to find Cassandra on top of Vicky pulling at her hair. "Cas!" he yelled. A group of students exited the lunchroom when they heard the two girls yelling.

Sebastian pulled Cassandra off of Vicky, he held her delicate body. If she wasn't currently fighting his girlfriend then he would have indulged in the feeling of Cassandra in his arms. Cassandra didn't need to look up to see who was currently holding her. She would know the feeling of his arms anywhere.

"Sebastian, get off of me," she struggled in his grasp. The students went for Vicky and held her back. "I can't believe we were ever friends!"

"Back at you bitch! Let me go! I'm going to kick this privilege bitch's ass!"

"What in the world is going on!" A voice boomed silencing the crowd. Everyone looked to the booming voice. Standing tall in her grey pants suit was Ms.Rivera.

She looked at Vicky who was being held back by a few students and Cassandra who was being held in the air by Sebastian. She was aware of what happened that morning from the teacher's lounge. She, like many others, was the least bit shocked about what was going on.

She began to point at the culprits, "Vicky, Cassandra, and you too Sebastian. In my office," she demanded. Sebastian was going to open his mouth but the look on Ms.Rivera's face made him quickly shut it.

Phillip saw the crowds of people, he held the lunch he prepared for him and Cassandra. He hurried to the crowd to see the spectacle. His eyes widen when he saw Ms.Rivera in the middle with his girlfriend being held by Sebastian and Vicky staring at the two with barred teeth. Phillip rushed towards Cassandra, he grabbed her taking her out of Sebastian's arms.

"Are you okay?" He asked her. She looked up to see who grabbed her. Her face began to soften when she saw Phillip. He inspected her face which had a few scratches on it. Cassandra nodded her head. Phillip looked over to Sebastian then to the girl that was now in his arms, "what happened?"

"Can we talk about it later. Can you just walk me to the nurse's office?" She muttered. Phillip took Cassandra's hand.

"Where are you going, Ms. Campbell?"

"To the nurse's office. I need a bandaid," she said.

Sebastian stared at Phillip as he led Cassandra to the nurse's office, he grimaced as he saw the two hand in hand. Vicky got out of the grasps of the large number of students that were holding her back. She approached Sebastian, "thanks for getting that bitch off of me." The word stung him when it was used to describe Cassandra.

"Come on, Ms.Riveria is staring at us. We better go." Vicky grabbed his hand and the two walked to the principal's office with Ms.Rivera close behind.

When the two students arrived at the office. They took a seat across from Ms.Riveria. She looked at the two students, it confused her, like many of the other students, their relationship. Sebastian the freshman, now sophomore heartthrob with his ex-girlfriend's friend.

It was a fight waiting to happen.

Ms.Riveria entangled her hands, "so, Vicky can you explain to me what happened?"

"It's simple. Cassandra called me fat because she is jealous of me and Sebastian then she attacked me."

The story made sense, jealously was a common occurrence with her female students that brought her anguish to no end. She didn't understand why a group of intelligent young women didn't get along because of what another girl wore or what they looked like.

Women should band together against the patriarchy.

"Why do you think she's jealous of you?"

"Because I'm dating Sebastian and he broke up with her."

Ms.Riveria pinched the bridge of her brow. "So how do we suppose we solve your guy's issue?"

"There's nothing you can do."

Ms.Riveria looked to the silent boy. "Mr.Livingston, you're oddly quite. What do you propose we do to solve this?"

Sebastian didn't have an answer as to how to stop Cassandra's unyielding anger. He knew the outcome of being with Vicky and it wouldn't subside due even if they just broke up.

Cassandra opened the door to Ms.Riveria's office. She now had a bandaid over the scratch mark that was over her face. The wound of her old friend's betrayal was much worse than any scratch mark.

"Ms.Campbell, are you alright?"

"I'm fine," she muttered. She kept a close eye on Sebastian and Vicky, her mouth tasted sour when she saw the two so close to one another.

"Good, now I can explain to you, your guy's punishment. You two will have in-school suspension for the rest of the week, detention right after, and lunch duty." The two girl's jaws dropped when they heard their punishment.

"But, she hit me first," Vicky argued. "It's unfair that we get the same punishment."

Ms. Riveria crossed her hands, "you're right. As much as it pains me to say this, I'm not going to allow you to do any performances this year."

Vicky smirked when the words came out of Ms.Riveria's mouth. "What!" Sebastian spoke out making all three women jump in surprise. The smirk that was on Vicky's face was now gone with the realization that her boyfriend cared about what happened to Cassandra. He instantly regretted when the word came out of his mouth.

It sounded like he cared.

A lump formed in Cassandra's throat when she thought about the one moment she looked forward to was gone. She would never be allowed to do the thing she loved this year. Her eyes began to well up with tears.

She didn't allow the tear to fall out of her eyes, she wouldn't give them the satisfaction.

Vicky didn't deserve to get what she wanted, a display of Cassandra's saddness. She wouldn't ket her win.

Cassandra opened her mouth, "room 412, right?"

"Yes."

Cassandra exited the room, outside stood Phillip. "What happened? Are you being suspended?" Cassandra stayed silent as she continued to walk, "expelled? You got expelled. This is bullshit, people fight all the time and you got expelled."

"No... in-school suspension for the rest of the week, detention right after, and lunch duty."

"Oh, that's not too bad. I can go to detention with you. I'm sure they won't turn me away, it's detention."

"And."

"And?"

"And, I can't perform this year."

"What!? But you're the best performer in the school and she knows that."

"Yeah, Vicky said it's unfair we get the same punishment so Ms. Riveria thought of the amazing idea of not letting me perform."

"Why would she do that?"

"Because she hates me for whatever reason but it's fine," Cassandra said as she walked up the stairs with Phillip behind her.

"Huh? What are you talking about?"

Cassandra turned and looked down at Phillip. When he looked at Cassandra, she didn't look like the girl who he fell for.

The once sweet girl was dead

"I'm going to get even with the bitch."

Cassandra when she got home received an ear full from her mom and new stepdad. It was the first day of school and she got into a fight and wasn't allowed to perform anymore.

Cassandra sat on her bed which were sprawled with an assortment of makeups, clothes, and books. Aurora knocked on the door, "come in," Cassandra yelled as she kept her eyes on the book in her hand.

She needed to get back at Vicky. Being with Sebastian made Vicky one of the queen bees. The popular girl, the girl everyone wanted to be friends with. In a short time after the fight and the dating announcement came out.

Vicky gained 400 followers.

She didn't have as many as Cassandra's but she had enough traction for the entire school to elect her as queen bee. "What are you doing?"

"Preparing for tomorrow."

"And tomorrow is?"

"The beginning of my revenge."

"Okay," Aurora trailed on before she took a seat on Cassandra's bed. The queen size mattress sunk moving assortment of items on Cassandra's bed. "And this revenge requires Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars... and Gone Girl? What the hell are you planning on doing?"

"Oh, you know... knocking Vicky down a few knots. She wants to fuck me over, I'm going to destroy her school social life."

Cassandra didn't want Vicky to enjoy highschool. She wanted her to suffer for what she did to her.

"And what do these books, makeup, and clothes have to do with it." Cassandra picked up a shirt that even she wouldn't feel comfortable wearing out.

"Well since I don't have the internet at my fingertips. This is the only way I can learn how to socially destroy a person. All of these women, Blair Waldorf, Serena Vanderwoodson, Allison Delerentes, she looked up to all of these girls. Since we were younger, she envied these girls. She wanted the
