"PERRY, YOU ARE THE QUICKEST so I need you to be open at all times. Do you understand?" Coach asked me during our time out.

I nodded,"Yes, Coach."

We were almost done with first game of the season, and we were tied with the other team. We only had a few seconds before the game was done.

I was sweating, and I was exhausted. But I love every second of it. I love the rush of adrenaline while I run down the field, kicking the ball around people.

I already had a bruise forming on my leg from where a girl tried to sweep kick the ball from me, but she missed the ball and kicked me with her cleat.

"Now get out and show them who is a winner!" Coach yelled, making me and my teammates ran back onto the field.

We lined up in our positions, and they had the ball. The referee blew his whistle, and that's when everything was set into motion.

One of the girls on the other team kicked the ball to another girl who was running towards the goal. While my teammates started defending me, I ran to the girl, trying to reach her before she reached the goal.

I caught up to her in no time, and I came in from the side so she didn't even realize I was there. She went to kick the ball a little further, and when she did, I used that opportunity to kick it back towards my goal.

I didn't even pay attention to her before I started running with the ball, making sure it wasn't getting to far away from me.

I heard people cheering in the stands, and I used that to keep going. I was almost to the goal when a girl tried to block me from the goal.

I darted to one side before quickly darting to the other, making her fall when she tried to block me. All that stood before me and the net was the goalie.

I backed up a little, and I kicked the ball with all of my strength. I held my breath as the goalie went to block it. But she was too slow.

The ball went passed her, and it hit the net. Smiling, I cheered as the buzzer went off, signaling the end of the game.

My teammates run up to me, and we all cheered and hugged each other.

"And that's it folks! The Lady Wasps have won their first game of the season! Well done ladies!" The announcer exclaimed in the microphone.

I made sure to give everybody a hug beside Brooke. She just kept scowling at me, but I didn't care. I was too happy to be worried about her.

I ran to the stands where my family was sitting. Not only did my family showed up, but some of the Cades were here as well cheering me on as well.

But they weren't the ones I was looking for. There was one person I was looking for, and I scanned where my family sat looking for his icy blue eyes.

"Annie!" I heard his voice behind me.

I turned around to see him, and I couldn't help myself. I jumped into his arms, wrapping my legs around his waist. My arms wrapped around his neck, and he was actually smiling.

Joshua freaking Carter was smiling.

And my God was it a beautiful smile.

He has two dimples, and that just made the smile even better.

"Did you see? I shot the winning goal!" I exclaimed, grinning like a fool.

"I saw," he replied as everybody from the stands started making their way to the field.

We stood there just smiling and staring in each others eyes. A spark ran through my body, and I felt my heart flutter like a hummingbird.

Joshua's eyes darted from my eyes to my lips, and he leaned in about to kiss me.

But we were interrupted by Xavier cheering loudly.

"That my Little Le! You did amazing!" Xavier exclaimed as Joshua set me down on the ground, much to my dismay.

"Thank you," I thanked him as he hugged me as well.

"Leah! Oh my goodness! You were the absolute bomb out on the field!" Lisa said with a happy grin.

Ross, her husband, stood next to her, wrapping an arm around her waist. Amber was standing with them as well, texting away on her phone like every preteen does. My parents came up and hugged me while saying congratulations.

I smiled, looking at the people who surround me with love and care.

But there was one person missing; Vanessa.

I knew she was here because I saw her in the stands before it started. Usually she would be the first person to hug me.

"Where's Nessa?" I asked, looking for my best friend.

"She said that she had to use the restroom," Mom explained, making me nod.

"Oh," I replied, shrugging it off.

I ignored the strange feeling I had, and I smiled as my family started talking about how well I played.

But as Ross and my Dad were talking to me about how I kicked their asses, I looked passed them as something caught my eye.

I saw Vanessa between the bleachers on the other side, but it was who she was arguing with that had me confused. She was arguing with Asher freaking Carter.

Why would she be arguing with Asher?

I mean, don't get me wrong, she is more than likely defending me, but she would have done that a while ago when he first broke my heart.

I saw Vanessa cross her arms across her chest before walking away from him. I quickly looked away so she wouldn't know I was paying attention to them.

When she came over to us, her anger was gone. Instead, a smile overtook her features like she has been happy all day. Vanessa smiled at me before hugging me.

"Congrats, Leah! You whooped some ass out there!" She exclaimed like nothing was wrong.

I had two options; I could call her out and see why she was arguing with Asher or I can play it safe and see if she will actually tell me the truth.

I went with the second option.

I hugged her back, and when we broke apart, I kept it casual, seeing if she would slip up.

"You should have seen it, V. The kick was amazing. Too bad you had to use the restroom," I said with a tsk as Joshua wrapped an arm around my waist.

I leaned into him, and he rested his chin on my head. I felt my lips upturn to a smile, but I hid it from him.

"Yeah. I drunk like four Dr. Pepper while you were playing so I had to go," Vanessa lied with a fake smile.

She was twirling a piece of her hair; her tell. Vanessa can fool everybody else, but she has been my best friend since I was five and I know everything about her.

Like now, I know she is lying to me. She never twirls her hair unless she is lying.

Why would she lie to me?

If she was arguing with Asher, she can tell me. And she knows that.

My best friend is lying to me, and I don't know why.

But I intend to find out tonight when I get her alone.

"I am almost done!" I exclaimed, yanking my bedroom door opened.

Joshua was standing in front of me, looking beyond hot. His brown hair was messy, but it worked well with his outfit; black jeans, black shirt, black leather jacket, and black combat boots.

I swear he doesn't have any other colors than white or black.

I noticed that his eyes were roaming over me as well, and I blushed a little. My outfit wasn't much since he wouldn't tell me where we were going. All I knew that there was going to be an after party.

He even tried to convince me not to go, but I knew that if I backed out last minute, Evie would never let me live it down.

And I don't need her breathing down my neck right now.

"Holy shit," Joshua mumbled as he stared in awe.

I had on a black solid laced cami top that showed a lift bit of cleavage, a pair of medium washed jeans with rips all in them, and a pair of shoes. My short blonde hair was loosely curled, and I had a smoky eye makeup today with dark red lipstick.

"If you don't like it, then I can change," I said as I went to turn around.

Joshua grabbed ahold of my wrist, lightly, before he spun me back around. My body was on his, and I felt my breath hitched. He looked down at me, and I swear his eyes were a darker blue right now.

"You look amazing," Joshua replied before tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.

I couldn't help the blush that crept into my cheeks. I swear every time I am around him, he makes me feel something.

"Well, thank you."

Joshua tore his gaze from me, and I drawled my eyebrows in confusion.

"Look," he started,"what we are doing tonight is..."

Joshua struggled to find his next words, and I didn't understand why he was so nervous.

"..Just don't look at me differently for it, please," he begged, clearly nervous about the whole ordeal.

"Josh, I promise I'm not going to look at you differently," I promised him, making him nod.

"Okay, okay. Then let's get going," he replied, extending his hand out for me.

I took it, and we walked out of my room. As we walked out of my house, a thousand questions ran through my mind.

Why would I look at him differently?

What is he hiding from me?

It can't be that bad, right?
