The next morning Kai was woken up by loud knocks on his door. He groaned and rolled over, smashing his face into his pillow and continued to snore.

"Kai, dear. Wake up, Nicolas is downstairs." Kai's mom's voice rang out from the other side of the door and his eyes shot wide open as he scrambled out of bed in shock. 

"What is he doing here?" Kai yelled while grabbing clothes and a towel from his wardrobe.

"He said he came to pick you up for breakfast before school." She answered before leaving to go back downstairs.

Kai hurried to the bathroom to take a quick shower and get ready. He was done in twenty minutes and made sure his hair looked good before running down the stairs and almost tripping down in the process.

"Careful there." Nicolas said coming over to stand at the bottom of the stairs with a small nervous smile.

"Hi" Kai mumbled, embarrassed. He was sure that when he faced Nicolas again he would give him the cold shoulder but now when he's standing right in front of him all he wanted to do was hug him. 

After a couple of moments of awkward silence Nicolas had enough of it and grabbed  Kai's hand to pull him into his chest in a hug that made Kai sigh in relief and wrap his arms around Nicolas' back.

"I'm so sorry Kai. I swear I didn't mean to cancel on you or leave you hanging like that but my phone died before I could explain and then when I finally charged it you wouldn't answer and I'm just really sorry." He explained, his neck still buried in Kai's neck and arms tightly holding the smaller boy to his chest.

Kai recurrently pulled away from the hug but Nicolas made sure he was still holding his hands tightly, refusing to let go of them.

"But why did you have to cancel?" Kai asked still confused about the situation.

"Come on let's sit" Nic said and led Kai to the couch where they sat, hands still tightly intertwined.

"I was getting ready to come pick you up when Rex called me." Nicolas started making Kai frown in distaste.

"He told me his dad collapsed." Kai's eyes widened in shock and his whole being became consumed with guilt.

"W-what? Is he okay?" Kai stammered in shock.

"Yes he's better now but he was rushed to the hospital and Rex had no idea what to do since he doesn't know anyone here except me and my mom." More guilt clawed at Kai for being so stupid and petty.

"I'm sorry" He murmured and Nicolas frowned in confusion. "Why are you sorry?"

"Because I'm stupid. I was upset for no good reason and instead of thinking rationally I ignored your texts and calls and I even agreed to that-" Kai shut his mouth realizing he was about to tell Nicolas about the dinner with Mary.

"You agreed to what?" Nic asked before adding, "You're not stupid, Kai. You had every right to be upset."

"No I didn't" Kai muttered and ignored Nic's question.

"Kai" Nicolas said.

"Yes?"

"What did you agree to?"

"Nothing" Kai said and looked at him with big, innocent eyes.

Nic smirked and grabbed Kai's chin tilting his head and bent down until there was only an inch of distance in between their faces. Kai's breath hitched and his eyes widened as he looked into Nicolas's shimmering green eyes.

"Tell me." Nic whispered bringing his other hand to softly stroke Kai's cheek and rubbing his lower lip with the pad of his thump.

"I...I agreed to the dinner." Kai admitted, his heart racing in his chest and Nicolas smiled in victory, letting his hands drop from Kai's face before frowning in confusion.

"What dinner?"

"You weren't answering my calls so I got mad and then Mary asked about dinner and I may have said yes instead of refusing." Kai meekly said as his embarrassment of being stupid grew.

"You went on a date with her?" Nicolas asked with a clenched jaw, his eyes blazing with hidden anger at the girl who was chasing Kai.

"Nonono! It wasn't a date!" Kai said, frantically moving his hands to emphasize his point making Nicolas turn to him with a tiny smile, his anger slowly disappearing because of his adorable Kai who was staring at him with wide eyes, begging him to believe him.

"Oh yeah?" Nic said and looped his arm around Kai's waist, pulling him closer to him until their legs were pressed together and Kai's hands fell on his chest. "Then what was it?"

"I don't know. I was bored okay! And she left halfway anyways saying I wasn't paying attention to her or something." Kai pouted while rolling his eyes.

"And why weren't you paying attention hmm?" Nic asked while nuzzling his face in Kai's neck making the later laugh a little as it tickled.

"Cause I was too upset." Kai murmured and Nic pulled away from his neck with a small frown and lifted his hand to stroke Kai's cheek in a comforting gesture.

"I thought you'd rather hang out with Rex then me." Kai confessed and hid his face in Nicolas's shoulder.

"Kai, you're my best friend, you know that?" Nic asked and Kai hummed snuggling closer. "And you're also my favourite person in the whole entire world. No one can ever take your place."

"Really?"

"Really. I promise and you know I always keep my promises." Nic said and moved away so he could look Kai in the eye.

"Come on let's go now or we'll be late." Nic said looking at the time.

"I thought you told my mom you picked me up for breakfast. I'm hungry! Are you taking me to school while I'm starving!" Kai whined and while Nicolas dragged him to the door with his hand.

"Niiiic! Answer meeee! I'm hungry!" Kai yelled and the neighbour who was collecting her mail shot him a glare which made him turn red in embarrassment and stop talking.

"Look what you did!" He whispered at Nic.

"Forget the old lady and sit in the car." Nic said with an amused smile and opened the door for Kai.

Kai huffed but followed Nic's instructions and sat in the passenger seat while his best friend went to sit in the drivers seat.

Kai was surprised to see a box of his favourites donuts sitting in the car along with two coffees.

"Oh..." Kai murmured embarrassed of his earlier actions while Nic laughed, "Did you really think I wasn't going to feed you?"

Kai shrugged his shoulder but smiled at Nicolas in thanks and grabbed a chocolate covered donut.

"Mhmm this is so good!" Kai said after swallowing his bite.

"Can you feed me? I have to start driving now or else we'll be late." Nicolas asked and Kai nodded.

"Which one do you want?" He asked as Nic started driving.

"The one you're eating." Nic said with a tiny smirk as Kai's eyes widened.

"Oh.. okay." He said and slowly moved his half eaten donut towards Nicolas's mouth. Nicolas took a bite of it, licked his lips and nodded in satisfaction.

The rest of the ride was spent with them sharing the donuts and drinking their coffees. When they arrived at the school's parking lot they had a couple of minutes to spare so they continued to slowly eat and Kai let Nicolas eat himself much to the later's dismay.

"You have some chocolate near your mouth. Kai." Nicolas chuckled and Kia stuck his tongue out to his best friend before kicking his lips to get rid of the chocolate.

"No not there." Nicolas continued to laugh before raising his hand and softly cupping Kai's chin. He rubbed off the chocolate with his thumb before moving it towards Kai's mouth.

"Here." He murmured and Kai looked at him in a daze, slowly parting his lips to wrap them around Nic's thumb and licking off the sweet chocolate.

Nicolas looked at him intensely his eyes never leaving Kai's flushed face and and his other hand raising to cup Kai's other cheek as well.

"Kai..." Nicolas whispered moving closer.

Then the bell rang and Nic's hands dropped from Kai's cheeks and he awkwardly cleared his throat.

"We should go or else we'll be late." He said and Kai mutely nodded both of them getting out of the car.

Just as Kai was about to walk away Nic pulled him back into his arms and tightly hugged him.

"I'll see you in math yeah?" He said and Kai smiled at him.

"Yeah."

Nicolas grinned at him after they pulled away and they both hurriedly made their way to homeroom.

"Good morning." Noelle greeted Kai with a bright smile as he sat down.

"Morning." Kai mumbled his mind still distracted with Nicolas.

"Guess what guess what?" Noelles asked bouncing in her seat.

"What?" Kai asked curiously.

"Leon and I went on a date! And it was amazing!" She said and Kai smiled, happy for her even if deep down he was hoping that she and Arthur would end up together.

"That's great Noelle. I'm really happy for you." He said and she beamed at him before looking at the front where Arthur walked in late.

After getting a few words from the teacher he sat next to them and greeted them. Kai waited for Noelle to tell him about her date but she kept quiet and instead asked him about his game which was in two weeks.

"I'm really exited. It's the first game of the season and it's going to be Halloween so then after we can go to the party." He grinned and Kai nodded as well with an exited smile. Kai loved Halloween and this kid in Arthur's soccer team threw the best Halloween parties at his house.

Kai even got Nicolas to dress up with him every single time and he's been thinking about their costume for awhile now.

"Oh and apparently this year they decided to throw a huge party after the game so both teams will be present." Noelle said and Arthur frowned.

"Ugh I hate those jerks." He bitterly said and Kai awkwardly cleared his throat because Leon was part of "those jerks" and Noelle didn't seem too happy.

"I don't understand why you hate them so much. They always played fair." She stated and Arthur scoffed.

"Your little "boyfriend" was the one who confronted me after a game and punched me with half his team backing him up so don't talk like I'm the bad guy here." Arthur growled.

"He said you were the one who went after something that was his." Noelle muttered and Arthur's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"I have no idea what the fuck that guy has been telling you because I didn't even know anything about him other then his name before that night." Arthur said and Kai was left confused.

Something wasn't adding up.

He remembered the night Leon had punched Arthur, he and Nicolas had been there and prevented the fight to get worse but he did remember Arthur's confusion as to why he was getting hit. And ever since that day the rivalry between the teams had grown to them throwing insults at each other every time they played.

And what did he mean by Arthur went after something that was his?

"I don't know. I'll ask him again." Noelle said and Arthur only grunted turning around to grab his phone.

"Kai." Noelle said turning to her friend.

"Mhm?"

"Do you want to go Halloween shopping with me?" She asked with puppy eyes.

"You know I always go with Nic." Kai said but he felt a little bit guilty while saying no to her.

"Awh man!" She groaned. "My sister is going with her friends and Leon already has a costume. I hate shopping alone."

"I'll go with you." Arthur grumbled from where he was sitting and Noelle beamed at him.

"Thank you Arthur!" She exclaimed before reaching across her desk to ruffle his hair.

"Whatever." He replied still ticked about before but there was a hint of a smile on his face as he looked at his gorgeous best friend.

Kai looked at them and hoped that one day they would be able to be together. He didn't know how he didn't see Arthur's feelings before. He was always so protective of Noelle and every time a guy approached her he would scare them away. One time there was this girl who wanted to go out with Noelle on a date and when Arthur found out he scared her away as well.

Kai thought it was because he was protecting her from getting hurt but now he knows that he just didn't want her to date someone which honestly was quite selfish of him. But he knew that even Arthur didn't realize what he was doing.

The bell rang bringing Kai out of his thoughts and he said goodbye to his friends and made his way to math class. When he entered both Nicolas and Rex were already there and laughing quite loudly about something.

Kai smiled and ignored the churning feeling in his stomach. He made his way next to Nicolas but his best friend was far to busy laughing to even notice. Kai frowned and pulled the chair rather obnoxiously which made the laughing boys turn to him because of the squeaking of the chair.

"Oh Hi Kai." Nic smiled at him and Kia only huffed out a hello.

"Hey Kai. Sorry for making Nicolas cancel your guys plans yesterday." Rex said with guilt.

"It's okay. Is your dad feeling better?" Kai asked genuinely concerned. He was only annoyed at Nicolas for not noticing him as soon as he entered the classroom like usual.

"Yes he's feeling much better and Luciana is taking care of him today till he gets discharged." Rex answered and Kai was surprised.

"Your mom skipped work?" He asked Nicolas.

"Yeah I know it's shocking." Nic nodded.

"I think they have something going on." Rex said with a smirk and both boys looked at him with wide eyes.

"You actually think they're together?" Nicolas asked and Rex chuckled.

"Did you see how worried your mom was yesterday? And dad was so embarrassed that your mom had to see him that way. And she even sent me to school when I said I'll stay with him." Rex explained.

"Now that I think about it my mom was hovering over your dad." Nic chuckled and then both boys dived into what happened yesterday in detail between their parents.

Kai wanted to say something but he didn't know what since he wasn't there with them yesterday so kept quiet and worked on his math sheet while the boys continued to talk about it.

Nic had grabbed Kai's hand under the table like usual but Kai's hand remained limp. All those thoughts were rushing back to him despite Nic reassuring him that morning.

He just couldn't help but feel...jealous.

Hi guys! I hope you enjoyed the chapter. I'm hoping to get the Halloween chapter updated on the actual Halloween day but it'll be hard. I'm going to try my best though!
