Iris~~

My eyes open to a dark form looming over me. Something cold presses against my throat. I don't know who it is, but I know it's not Erik. And based on logical reasoning, that thing at my throat is a knife. Speaking or making a noise means moving my neck, but even so a hand covers my mouth. I recognize the traces of the cologne from when I was forced to dance with him.

Colton Blackwood holds a knife to my throat.

"I'd drop the knife, Colton," Erik's voice is deep with sleep.

"How can you possibly see what I'm holding Erik?"

"If we're asking questions, can you see the two guns I'm pointing at you and Seong-ho?" Jae-yeon's here? "Seong-ho, why don't you turn on the lights?" Erik asks. "They're at the end of Iris's bed."

Jae-yeon obliges his request for some reason. The overhead lights and the lamps on the desk turn on at the same time, revealing Colton crouching beside my bed, the knife still against my neck. All it would it take is a flick of his wrist and I'd be lying here, bleeding out.

Jae-yeon stands at the end of my bed, a gun pointed at Erik who's standing between the little strip between his bed and Colton with a gun pointed at him and Jae-yeon.

"You can't kill us." Colton keeps his eyes on me.

"No, but I can mess you up both quite terribly. Kill Iris and I'll pay a visit to Vienna."

Colton's hand slips and the knife nicks me. It takes all my strength not to wince. "Planning to come home then?" he asks.

"If I hurt Vienna when she is at the Estate, you'd only be prepared for it, and that wouldn't hurt you enough." Erik, please stop provoking Colton while he has a knife to my throat.

"You lied to Jonas." Jae-yeon's arm doesn't falter. I know he can hold his arm out for at least fifteen minutes without it dropping. We did drills.

Erik tilts his head to the side, his neck cracking. "He got my note then." Note? What note?

"Yes." Just that single word from Jae-yeon holds so much venom and disgust. Jonas had a letter in his hand when I last saw him. Was that it? What was in it? "What is wrong with you?"

"Says the man who's helping our cousin murder a girl in bed."

Jae-yeon stares at him without answering, and Erik snorts.

"It's not like he gives a damn," Erik says.
"I guess you weren't accidently on the group chat."

Erik quirks an eyebrow. If I wasn't in the position, I'm in, I'd take time to feel jealous yet again of that ability. There's a lot of things I would do if I wasn't in this position, like speak or stab Colton with his own damn knife.

Colton's eyes stare into mine. "He snapped at us all over your letter, Erik."

I feel blood running down my neck from where he nicked me.

"Colton, just drop the knife. I'm tired." Erik motions with his gun that's pointed toward Colton which also means it's pointed toward me. "You know I absolutely would hurt Vienna, or are you finally going to put the Society before her like you always say you'll do?"

"Colton, he has us." With a nod to Erik, Jae-yeon bends down. When he comes back up, he no longer has a gun.

"Seong-ho," Colton snaps.

"I don't particularly feel like being shot tonight. If you kill her, he'll probably fire at least three bullets in the both of us."

"He's right—for once." Erik's arms don't waver. Scowling, Colton holds up his hands and lets the knife bounce off the carpet.

I inhale sharply—freely.

"Iris, there's rope in my backpack."

"Why do you have rope?"

"Can you just grab it?"

I retrieve Colton's knife from beside him as he throws me a look of disdain and then rummage through Erik's bag. I pull out three thick coils of white rope.

"Before you tie them up, could you grab the gun from Colton's waistband?"

Rope in hand, I approach Colton, feeling like I'm about to swing a lasso around a bull. The thought is so ridiculous, it almost makes me laugh. Laughing sounds nice. I crouch beside him and withdraw the gun tucked behind his back.

Colton doesn't say a word while I tie him to a chair. Neither does Jae-yeon when I move onto him. I make sure to not use any knots he taught me.

Erik makes me gather up our stuff, insisting he still has to keep the guns trained on them. I don't believe him—I feel like he's just tired, but I want to hurry up and get out of here, so I pack.

When I have both bags slung over my shoulders and we're ready to go, Colton finally talks.

"You can't be with him," he says to me. "My brother."

"Obviously."

"No, you don't understand. They'll be angry. They already are. Until you're dead, they'll demand your death. When you're caught, and you both will be caught, don't try to beg my brother to spare you. If you care you about him, don't put him through that."

"I don't know what you're trying to say, Colton." I grind my teeth. "Put him through what? After all, wasn't I supposed to be a replacement for Molly?" I almost spit the words out. "Wasn't he just trying to make me happy so I'd convince Erik to stay? Didn't that plan fail?"

Colton looks at Erik, an incredulous expression marring his face. "You manipulative, conniving son of a bachelor."

Erik cocks his head. "You know perfectly well who my father is." He walks out of the hotel room, leaving me alone with them.

"Do you always do what he says?" Jae-yeon asks.

I tighten my hand into a fist. "I pick and choose my battles."

Colton shakes his head. "Don't believe everything Erik tells you. He's selfish. That's the first thing you have to understand about him. Don't be surprised when you realize you're a pawn he's sacrificed."
