The whole time I was wonder why did he even come up to me in the first place. I mean, I wasn’t complaining or anything, it’s the first person who has even talked to me sense we got here. I wouldn’t normally talk to the “beach boy” type of guys back in my old town, but I guess that because they never wanted to talk to me. My thoughts were broken when I could telling someone was talking. I remember Brandon next to me.

“uh. What?” I said, stopping to face him.

“I asked what your name was.” he laughed a little amused on how out of it I was just then.

“oh, sorry. I’m Ashley.”

To my surprise he grabbed my hand on his and kissed the back of it lightly. I blushed. He just laughed. I noticed how his smile had changed somehow. It was less inviting. A little but more dark, which I didn’t know that would be possible on him. His smile before could light up a room, now, I don’t know, it looked kind of forced.

“I-I’m sorry, but is something bothering you?” I asked before realizing what I just said.

Know one else would have been able to tell that, but I had a sort of gift. I could tell thing about people as if reading them like a book. I’m not perfect, by far, at it. I sometimes get confused when people are flirting, which barley ever happens. that’s probably why I couldn’t tell before now.

He just looked at me, his smile faded by now. “sort of. But don’t worrie about it. Alright?”

I hesitate. “Alright.” I agree. We keep walking

A little while later we came to a tall, silver school. The sun was making it shine, but there was shade on the courtyard part of it. The campus was pretty big. Way bigger than my other school. There were round tables set out into the courtyard part of the school, and kids were already chatting and laughing waiting for classes to start. My first thought was that the courtyard part look a lot like the ones in the Harry Potter books I’ve read, except there are a lot more tables here. “Come on.” Brandon urged me, pulling me by the arm.

He pulls me to a side entrance. “why aren’t we taking the front?” I ask him. He just shrugs and keeps leading the way. Out of the corner of my eye I see a black shandow and I stop in my tacks to get a better look. It was boy about my age, I seemed. I couldn’t see him clearly by from what I could tell he was pretty tall. Probably about 6 foot I thought. I couldn’t look away from him. It felt like I was in some sort of trace pr something. I couldn’t look away. He was staring right back at me, and then started to walk towards me. I keep staring till I felt another tug at my arm. It pulled me out of my “trace,” and I looked over. Brandon was staring at the boy telling him with his eyes not to come any closer. I gave him a confused look, but he just hissed, “don’t go near him.” and dragged me away. When I looked back over my shoulder he was gone.  “who was that?” I ask Brandon when we finally come to a stop. “Don’t talk to him, and don’t even talk about him.” he tells me.  “Why not?” I ask starting to get annoyed. I deiced I didn’t like those short answers he gives.  “tell me!” I yell, earning a few looks from the kids around us. Rubs his temples and says, “Fine.” I smile triumphantly. “but not now.” my smiles drops, and I sigh. “alright.” I tell him. Why do I keep agreeing to things this kid says? I don’t know. I just know that if I’m going to figure this out, I’m going to have to do it myself probably. He sighed now. “lets go to the front office.”  I nod my head. We walk down the halls and I cant help but notice that everyone is staring at me. Probably because I’m knew, or because I dress a lot darker than them. So far I haven’t seen anyone else with anything close to my sense of style. I didn’t mind, but I was kind of hoping to start off meeting people were it seems like we would have a few common interests. By the time we reached the office the news that there was a new kid was already being spread around. I know this because I could pick up on a few of there comments. They weren’t really insulting, actually they were pretty much what I was excepting at first. A girl in a light blue tank top, and booty shorts whispered loud enough for me to hear he say. “that’s what the new girl looks like? Really?” while the girl new to her just responded with, “well what do you expect from a girl who cam from Salam Oregon.” how they new were I was from was beyond me. Brandon had herd what the two girls said as well, and just smiled. “things go around really fast here.” I just nodded. I felt weird when he smiled now. It still wasn’t warm like it was at first.
