"Who is he? What's his name? Who's his dad? What's his GPA?" Dad poured the questions out as soon as I walked in the door. I didn't have time to slip off my shoes or even set my keys down before he bombarded me.

"Dad please, it was just a ride and I just worked my very first day on my very first job. Aren't you even a little interested in how it went?"

He blinked at me with a stern expression set in his hard features. Then after a breath, he asked, "How was the ride?"

"Mom?" I pleaded. She had been watching me eagerly since I walked through the door, her head resting on her hand and a blanket thrown over her legs.

"I would help but... I'm curious too. Cute flowers. It was Declan, wasn't it?" She sat up a little straighter with her question.

Dad now had his arms crossed. "Declan? Who the hell is Declan? How do you know about a Declan and I don't?"

"I'm going to go shower now," I mumbled before making my way up the stairs.

"And then you're coming right back down for a movie night? I can't come into town next weekend, so you owe me time!" Mom shouted from the couch.

"Only if you make the popcorn this time," I called back.

"Who the hell is Declan?" I heard dad ask her and I picked up the pace to grab a towel for my shower.

-----------------------------

"Why is she here?" I whispered to Cyrus as he fixed his shoelaces for practice.

"Because she thinks dating the team captain means he requires a personal cheerleader everywhere he goes." He responded tightly. Even Coach seemed to be extra irked today, and that was saying something.

Brooke was standing with her supposed boyfriend Duncan, which I still wasn't able to wrap my head around. She was stroking his arm while saying something in a pout. I didn't get it, he didn't even look remotely happy with her. But then I wondered if any girl had the power to make him remotely happy.

"How long has she been joining you guys?" I might have missed a few practices last week since I picked up some after-school shifts at the diner.

"Last week," He replied. Duh, I could have answered that myself.

Coach spotted me at last, his eyes widening in something that suspiciously looked like relief. "Rowena, thank God," He said and made his over to us. "It's been a nightmare dealing with these boys without you."

"No offense taken Coach," Cyrus said quietly, but Coach wasn't listening.

"Hi, Coach. Sorry about missing a few practices but I have a job now that pays me in money instead of gum sticks."

He paused taking out his pack of gum from the front pocket of his shirt. Then he just shrugged off my tease and said, "Fine, more for me." I wasn't sweating about it though, I knew he would give me one later anyway.

His whistle echoed out onto the field as practice began and his yelling commenced. Of course, for the most part, my focus stuck on a certain tall brunette who was currently bouncing the ball repeatedly on one knee before passing it off.

I was recognizing that Declan had become a natural constant at this point. I realized just this morning that I had been craning my neck to find him in the crowd, waiting for him to come to my locker like he usually did. Every text notification that buzzed on my phone was a hope that it was his name that popped up on the screen. I found myself paying a little more attention if his name was brought up in converstion.

I was used to him now, and I was completely okay with that.

I suddenly felt the imaginary daggers of a stone-hard glare. Sure enough, when I turned my head to the side, there stood Brooke. Her red hair seemed to match all the anger she was directing into her scowl.

I smiled as brightly and as sarcastically as I could before wiggling my fingers in a small wave. She began tapping her foot before she walked over at a fast pace. Good Lord here we go.

"Why were you looking at him?"

Huh? I stared at her blankly.

"You were looking at my boyfriend and I know exactly what that look means. So, listen here you little man stealer," She leaned in closer and I raised my eyebrows at her in amusement. As confused as I was, I was also genuinely intrigued to see where this was going.

"You only have Declan's attention because I let you have him. So, you can have as much fun as you want with one of the team's star players but remember that I was the one that scored the team captain."

"You let me have him?" I asked very slowly. Her only response was to cross her arms and she held her chin up higher in the slightest.

I took in a big deep dramatic breath before placing a single hand on my chest, "I'm so sorry your majesty. You must be so offended I haven't thanked you yet. I must have been just been stuck in awe at your utmost generosity, of course."

She blinked at me, her arms slowly loosening before the fire was back in her eyes. "Are you mocking me?" She practically hissed.

"If that's how you wanna take it, then sure, Bianca, I was mocking you. Are you done now? My friends are out there practicing and you're blocking my line of sight."

She let her arms down completely, "It's Brooke."

"Mhm," I hummed softly, looking around her to see what the boys were doing next.

"You're not better than me," She said after a moment.

"Okay."

"You and Natalie think you're so cool, but you're not."

"Alright."

Just then Declan looked up from his feet to glance at me from the bleachers. He frowned for a second at the sight of us. Then he raised his brows that wordlessly asked if I was okay.

I rolled my eyes slightly and leaned my head to the side a little to wordlessly respond, Of course I'm okay dummy. I could easily handle Brooke.

"Hello?" She waved in my face. "I'm still talking to you."

"Right. No, I get it. You want to understand that I should stay away from your man and that you're threatened by me."

"That's not what I said."

"You didn't tell me to stay away from your boyfriend?"

"Yes, I want you to know your place and to stay away from Duncan."

"So, you think I'm a threat to you then?" I asked her very slowly once again. I seemed to have needed to speak slowly to her a little too often. "Is that why you don't like Natalie? Are you threatened by her too?" I continued.

I noticed then how much I was getting under her skin. She had a slight tick at the side of her forehead. Her temper was flaring while I was having a fucking field day.

"I am not threatened by the two of you. I'm Brooke Foster, I don't feel threatened by anyone."

"...Okay," I responded unconvinced.

She stared at me and I stared back. I was watching her temper rise to the very rim until she let out an exasperated groan, throwing a fit like a five-year-old as she stomped away from me.

"It was really nice talking to you Beverly!" I called after her and I laughed to myself as I heard her let out another sound of frustration.

A/N: Happy Sunday? *nervous chuckle*

I have no excuse other than I was lost in a book over the past few days and I spent all my free time with it instead of writing this update.
