Syretia placed the last folded shirt into her suitcase, resting her hands there, letting her thoughts wander she had just gotten back to her room after confiding in a close friend.Β

It had been almost three weeks since she recovered from infectious rabies and Vindicatio's bite. She had yet to have undergone any physical changes which was perplexing to everyone but Evanora thought it was just because Syretia was human and not a werewolf before being turned. At first, Syretia felt energetic, healthy, and strong... almost reborn. But a few days ago things started to change, she kept it hidden not wanting Vindicatio to catch on. She didn't want to worry him, he had gone through so much already.

Β She started to feel drained, both emotionally and physically, but she pressed on not wanting to worry anyone. Vindicatio had been so much happier, even had a skip in his step as he walked around the castle. She supposed it was probably because a weight had been lifted off of his head.Β

Literally.Β

The King's crown had been lifted from his tousled black hair and placed upon Alfonso's head. Vindicatio had suggested it when Ettore was about to take the throne and crown instead. Ettore agreed, he had no place being The King of The Royal Werewolf Court when he didn't even have a wolf to shift into. Besides that, he wanted to travel around the world. He had never been able to do anything he wanted and with his new lease on life and freedom of his own, he was going to take advantage of it.Β

Alfonso was the perfect fit, he knew how to take command. He had compassion and authority. He knew what it was like to be a good leader, he had proved as much leading up to the battle with Salvatore. Alfonso looked regal the night of the ceremony and Syretia couldn't help but be ecstatic for him, they all were. Alfonso even managed to crack a smile for a gag picture with the extravagant cape, crown, and scepter.Β

After the ceremony, Vindicatio told Syretia they'd be leaving for Bonaloo Bay shortly, and she couldn't contain her excitement. Italy was gorgeous, and the subjects of the Werewolf Royal Court were amazing, but this wasn't her home and it wasn't Vindicatio's either. They were even set on taking Sebastian with them, they figured a life away from a world so corrupt would prove best for him.Β

The white rogues had moved on, back to the polar regions, it was all they knew. But they were set on reorganizing their pack and how it was run. A female named Josephine took over the alpha position and deemed the pack as a Wild one and bestowed it with a name: The Algid pack. No longer were they deemed as rogues with a wretched myth following them.Β

Evanora was on her deathbed, Syretia decided to visit her the other morning and she was just skin and bones, her personality shown through still nevertheless but it was heartbreaking. Sure, she had done a bad thing by tampering with dark magic but Syretia believed Evanora redeemed herself... but the forces of magic weren't as forgiving. Syretia confided in her about feeling weaker and simple things were becoming more strenuous and Evanora told her that it probably had to do with the second result on the paperwork.Β

That morning Evanora was with Syretia when she found out that she had more terrible news.

"I didn't think it was possible for that to happen," Syretia's eyes brimmed with tears as she turned to Evanora, "Salvatore said so many times that that wasn't possible."

"Vindicatio is an anomaly," Evanora replied gently, grasping Syretia's hand weakly. "It explains now why you were feeling so drained and weak after... everything."

"What do you think caused it to happen?"

"It was most likely his bite that caused it, that much powerful DNA against a weakened system..."

"What am I going to tell him?" She wiped a tear away. "He'll never forgive himself."

"You'll tell him the truth," Evanora stated sternly, "on your own time. Confide in someone, Syretia, if you're not ready to tell him; tell someone else. I'm not going to be around much longer."

Syretia found herself outside of Ettore's room. She hesitantly raised a balled fist and knocked. She waited a few moments until the door opened, Ettore gave her a concerned look.Β

"Syretia, what's wrong? You look like someone died." That was Syretia's breaking point, she stumbled into Ettore's chest and cried.Β

"Someone did die," her voice was muffled against his chest. Ettore cursed under his breath and pulled Syretia into his room, closing the door behind them.Β

"Is Vindicatio away right now?" Ettore asked as he handed Syretia a tissue. Syretia shook her head and sobbed.Β

"I can't tell him yet," she paused for a moment, "so I figured I'd practice on you since you look so similar. I'll know exactly what to say to him. I don't know when I'm going to tell him... he's going to be devastated."Β

"Was it Evanora? You know things aren't that deep between them..." Ettore trailed off trying to lighten the mood.Β

"It wasn't Evanora," Syretia clenched her fists, "I--" she choked, clenching her eyes shut.Β

"When I was on my deathbed with rabies I found something else out..." she trailed off, her eyes looking everywhere but at Ettore. The tears in her eyes blurred her vision making him look more like Vindicatio which made it harder for her to say. "I'm sorry, I should go confide in someone else.."Β

"Take your time, Syretia... what happened?"

"I... I was pregnant, Ettore. About a month along. Vindicatio and I didn't think it was possible because we're two different species with completely different genetic make ups. Salvatore's biggest reason to keep us apart was because as a human, I'd never been able to have with Vindicatio. Even Evanora didn't think it was possible, she thinks it might've been because of what happened when Vin was trapped inside you."

"Past tense?" Ettore's eyes softened, as he grabbed Syretia's hand. "You can't blame yourself Syretia, the rabies was going to kill you."

"That's not the worst part," she looked up at the ceiling, trying to blink back tears. "I'm going to have to tell Vindicatio that I miscarried because of his bite."

"Oh, shit," Ettore cursed under his breath. "Uhh," he pondered for a moment, "let's look at this from another perspective... it could've been the rabies. Not necessarily his bite, Evanora doesn't know everything. And even if it were because of his bite, if he hadn't bitten you, you both would've died and he would've lost what means most to him; you. I'm sure this will devastate him, but not as much as losing you would've been. Vindicatio is a strong guy, he can handle anything you throw at him, Syretia."

"Thanks, Ettore."

"Anytime, Syretia."

"And, Ettore?"

"Hm?"

"Let's keep this confidential for now."

"My lips are sealed."

VINDICATIO entered the room, he watched as Syretia placed another article of clothing into her suitcase as she stared off absentmindedly. He couldn't help but wonder what was occupying her thoughts. She had been off lately like she was hiding something, but he wouldn't allude to the fact that he knew. He wanted her to come to him about it. He knew that she would eventually.Β

She would come to talk to him about not getting fired up and jealous of having Darrin around once they arrived back in Bonaloo Bay. It was a given that he'd be at the 'Welcome Home' party Welma was going to throw. But she didn't need to worry about that, she carried his mark and that was enough repellant to keep that male away.Β

"Are you all done packing?" He asked he watched as she jumped a bit, startled.Β

"Almost," she replied, placing another item in the suitcase. "Are you?" She asked, glancing at him over her shoulder.Β

"Yes," Vindicatio nodded, lifting up two suitcases, "I'm ready to go home."

"Me too. I can't wait to see Welma and Darrin," Syretia smiled,Β  "Welma told me that Solomon and his mate had their baby."

"Solomon?" Vindicatio asked curiously.

"Welma's other son, I only met him briefly," Syretia explained as she zipped up her suitcase.Β

"What was the gender?" He watched as she tensed a bit. She turned around, her gaze not meeting Vindicatio's.

"A girl," her voice was quieter.Β

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Syretia forced a smile as she walked around Vindicatio, pulling her suitcase behind her.Β

"Why won't you look at me? Did I do something?"

"You didn't do anything," Syretia finally looked up, eyes meeting Vindicatio's.

"You look a little peaked, are you feeling okay?"

"Just a little under the weather, but I'll be fine once we get on the plane."Β

Vindicatio gave her a skeptical glance as he walked beside her, wary of if she was telling the truth. She had been rather quiet lately, detached. It all started a week ago. Vindicatio would get to the bottom of it no matter what. Once they made it outside Sebastian and Ettore were waiting by an SUV.Β

Ettore took Syretia's bag and placed it in the back of the SUV as Vindicatio did with his. Everyone was quiet, sullen. They had all grown close together. Especially Vindicatio, Sebastian, and Ettore. Vindicatio watched as Syretia hugged Alfonso tightly, before moving on to hug Ettore.Β

Ettore shared a look with Syretia that turned troubled as his eyes met Vindicatio's. He knew what Vindicatio didn't.Β Β

As soon as Syretia and Sebastian got into the SUV Vindicatio pulled Ettore aside, "tell me."

"What?" Ettore's brows furrowed.

"Syretia has been off lately, and she obviously confided in you about it," Vindicatio glowered as he jabbed Ettore in the chest with an accusatory finger, "what is so bad that she wouldn't tell me about it?" Ettore looked down at the ground, silent.Β

"She'll tell you when she's ready, Vindicatio," Ettore said, lifting his gaze to look Vindicatio in the eyes directly. "I gave her my word that I wouldn't say anything, and it's not my place to tell. I will not betray Syretia or my word. Now, let's go, everyone is expecting you back at a certain time."Β

Vindicatio said nothing as he stepped around Ettore and got into the SUV. He felt betrayed. Why wouldn't Syretia, his own mate, not confide in him?Β
