Gillian's POV

A smile makes its way onto my face as I stare at the photo of my best friend.

Her honey colored tresses are curled in large spirals that fall past her shoulders and rest against the middle of her back.

Atop of her head sits a plastic tiara that has been coated with a shiny gold spray paint.

The smile on her cherry tinted lips is so large that it is practically impossible to miss. Her sapphire blue eyes glimmering from the bright spotlight above her.

I don't think Courtney has ever been as happy as she was the night that she was crowned snowflake queen a week ago at our middle school dance.

She had been talking about wanting to win for months.

I was so happy when she finally got her wish, I still am.

"I knew you were obsessed with me."

My eyes roll all the way to the back of my head at the sound of my best friend's sarcastic tone.

I turn around so that I am now facing the smirking honey haired girl.

"Damn, you ruined my plan." I joke.

Courtney laughs at said joke before making her way over to her bed and sitting with one of her legs tucked underneath her.

"Don't worry, I'll keep your secret for you." She winks.

"Hey, didn't you say that Gia, Winter, and Cassie were coming over?" I ask.

Courtney rolls her eyes, an annoyed expression making its way onto her face.

"I really don't want to see them," she groans out.

Eventually she faces me again, this time with a frown on her face.

"I just want to spend the rest of the day with you."

I cross my arms in front of my chest, not entirely knowing what to do with them.

"Just the rest of the day?" I tease her.

The honey haired girl shrugs her shoulders.

"The rest of the day...the rest of our lives...same thing."

"Not really." I shake my head, trying my best not to laugh.

"Okay, you can fuck off for all I care, Gill." Courtney says with a grin, appearing to be back to her normal self.

I scoff at her playful insult as I know that she is only joking.

"Please, we both know that you can't live without me."

"Oh yeah?" She asks.

I nod my head at her.

"Says the one who's practically obsessed with me."

I slowly make my way towards her with my arms still crossed.

"You know that projecting your feelings onto me isn't healthy." I inform her.

Courtney goes unusually silent for a few moments.

I go to change the topic of conversation only for the doorbell to go off.

Well, I guess that this conversation is over.

-

"Happy birthday, dear Courtney. Happy birthday to you!"

Courtney smiles at all of the attention on her, clearly loving every second of it.

She closes her eyes for a few seconds before blowing out the candle on top of the cake.

The four of us cheer for her, Courtney's mom included.

"What did you wish for, honey?" Her mom attempts to pry as she makes her way towards her daughter.

Courtney scoffs at this.

"I'm not telling, otherwise it won't come true." She answers.

I do not miss the way that her sapphire irises drift in my direction until they inevitably connect with my brown ones.

She looks like she has something on her mind.

I raise an eyebrow at her, silently asking her if she wants to talk about it.

"That's just a myth, sweetheart."

Courtney breaks eye contact with me to glare at her mother.

"I'm not taking any chances."

-

"One slice of cake with no frosting." My best friend smiles as she places a plate in front of me whilst simultaneously placing another plate of cake a few inches beside mine.

"Thanks, Court."

She smiles, grabbing the chair closest to me and pulling it even closer.

"It's whatever." She takes a seat in the chair beside me.

I allow her to throw her legs across my crossed thighs.

She does things like this a lot.

I've just chalked it up to her being a very touchy person...

The rest of our friends enter the dining room with plates of cake in their hands.

Cassie attempts to take a seat beside Courtney which doesn't end too well considering, technically, only two chairs can fit on this side of the table with it being completely cramped.

"What the hell, Cassie?!"

"Wha- I-"

"There are dozens of other seats you could've chosen! Pick one."

Cassie scoffs, but ultimately does as Courtney says.

She stands from the chair that she was sat in and moves it to another side of the table.

...Then again, I am the only person that she is touchy with.

-

Courtney smiles as everyone finishes up their slice of cake on their plate.

"Thanks for coming." The honey haired girl begins.

"We'll see you on Monday?"

The three girls who are sat around the table are completely dumbfounded, staring at the birthday girl with confused facial expressions.

"Uh, what?" Gia asks.

"School." Court deadpans.

The three girls look between each other, seemingly conversing with each other mentally.

Eventually, they look in Courtney's direction again.

"Uh, Courtney, your mom said that we could stay the night." Winter informs the honey haired girl.

Oh no.

"Excuse me?!" Courtney exclaims with wide eyes.

"Yeah, she said that it was a birthday sleepover." Cassie cuts in.

Unfortunately for them, this only makes matters worse as Courtney's eyes widen further.

"What?!" She actually yells this time.

"Did you- not know or-?"

"If I knew, do you really think that I would be asking fucking questions, Cassie?" She glares at her.

The three girls are frozen in their spots from Courtney's outburst which only causes the birthday girl to groan with irritation.

"Ugh, this is all fucked!" She cries out, shooting up from her seat and quickly making her way out of the dining room.

I smile at the three girls across from me in hopes of easing the tension that Courtney created.

"Courtney's mom never told her about the sleepover, so she's just a little overwhelmed." I say.

Cassie scoffs with disbelief.

"A little overwhelmed? She's being a complete drama queen!" She says.

"Yeah! Like, I get that it's your birthday or whatever, but that doesn't give you the right to act like a complete bitch." Gia agrees.

"You guys aren't actually surprised, are you?" Winter cuts in.

"I mean, she throws tantrums like this every single time she doesn't get something that she wants."

Gia's eyes widen with realization.

"Oh my god, you're so right!" She agrees.

"Last week, she got pissed at me because we had the same celebrity as our lock screen. She threw a complete bitch fit and ignored me until I changed it."

Wait, Courtney did that?

Why didn't I hear about this?

-

"Gill, come. You're sleeping with me." Courtney declares.

I freeze at her declaration.

"Oh, uh- I'm fine sleeping on the floor with the rest of the girls."

Courtney turns to face me a cold look in her eyes.

"Gill, come over here now." She demands with hard tone.

Courtney doesn't like when people say no to her.

If I wasn't her best friend, she would have most likely  kicked me out of her house already.

"Court-"

"Why is Gillian the only one who gets to sleep on your bed?" Gia suddenly asks, cutting me off.

Courtney turns to face the girl, not appearing happy in the slightest.

"Excuse me?"

Gia backs down with the fear of being at the receiving end of the absolute hell storm that's about to come out of Courtney's mouth.

"Yeah, it's always you and Gillian who get to sleep on the bed while the rest of us sleep on the floor." Cassie uses this as her chance to step up.

Courtney silently raises an eyebrow at the girl, her jaw ticking like an analog clock.

"It's just that- sometimes we want to sleep on the bed too." Winter tries her best not to set off the ticking time bomb across from her.

Courtney scoffs and leans her back against her crystal encrusted headboard.

"I don't know, maybe because Gillian doesn't ask me stupid questions all of the time," she snaps, looking straight into Gia's eyes.

"Maybe because Gillian doesn't snore like she smokes ten packs a day," she directs at Cassie.

"Maybe because Gillian doesn't smell like she takes a shower in a combination of pachouli oil and tea tree oil every day." She directs at Winter.

"If you have a problem with what I do inside of my house, then you can fucking leave for all that I care! But if you do decide to leave, then don't bother talking to me ever again."

They go silent as they just stare at Courtney with fearful expressions.

"Anymore annoying ass questions?" Courtney asks.

She waits a few seconds for the girls to reply, letting a fake smile paint itself across her face when they do not respond.

"That's what I thought." She says before letting her fake smile fall.

"Gillian, if you're not over here in the next five seconds then you'll be sleeping outside."

I give an apologetic smile to the three girls beside me and make my way towards Courtney's bed.

This was supposed to be posted 2-3 hours ago, but Wattpad was down.

For those of you who may be curious, 'Gillian' is pronounced like "Jillian". It's just a different spelling.
