CHAPTER 16: Miranda goes back to square one

"Oh my god, she's such a bitch."

"She's going to be hated by everyone."

"Poor, Samantha. Fuck Miranda that psycho."

That's the tea I heard in the early hours of a school day. What did she do this time? Oh, she sent out her best friend's nudes around the school. That news was buzzing and every student has heard of the news including the freshmen students, who brought eggs in especially to throw on Miranda.

That was what she did and everyone hated her for it. Not that there was a difference from the very beginning. Her best friend came in shouting words not meant to be heard by teachers and she stormed through, her brother Ace there for moral support. Wow, he came all the way from NY just to support his sister? That's definitely the sibling love I wished I had.

In reality, I did feel sorry for Miranda. This was going to be a big change for her, from being feared to being the one who's scared, but she deserved it. Everyone thought she deserved it. The whole school was disgusted by her. All her friends, every popular guy in school and even the Bowers' gang was shocked that she would stoop so low. Me, on the other hand, was not even the tiniest bit surprised. I knew she was capable of doing these things.

"Can you believe her?" Nicole whispered to me that morning as she came in. I nodded in response and sighed, "apparently, her mother's too disgusted to go to the gardening club because of what her daughter did."

I mean, I didn't see her on Sunday so it must've happened the day before or something. After all, news travels fast in this town and especially in this school. We got seniors slagging her off and freshmen students looking to hunt her down.

"I'm not even surprised that she did that," I said cockily and she arched an eyebrow at me, "you know Camille from the debate team? She said that Miranda posted Samantha's nudes and put such crappy captions saying how much of a slut she was and stuff."

Hah, like she can say much. Now, I know not to stoop as low as her, but I've gone through enough shit with her to know that what she's facing is nothing compared to what I've been through. I am not passing the opportunity to fuck up her life like she's done to me.

"Where is she? I swear I'm gonna fucking kill her." boomed Ace as he cracked his knuckles, his sister looking around to find her ex-best friend.

"Oh, don't even bother. I'll be finished with her as soon as you knock her to the ground," snapped Samantha as she scoured through the crowd, her eyes piercing and full of anger. Other students jeered insults about Miranda and cheered Samantha on as she walked deeper on the school campus.

Well, at least it's not me this time, I thought, god, I'm so evil.

Everyone headed off, following Samantha deeper into school so they can hunt down Miranda. This reminds me of when people chase monsters with pitchforks and torches, except without those things.

Michael smiled at me before patting me on the head. He breathed a sigh of relief as I looked up at him innocently with a grin of pure happiness.

"Doesn't it feel great to not be drowning in shit for once?" he said as I nodded eagerly, Nicole and Kelly joining us with Ethan. I turned to see Nicole setting up the live video on her phone and I prodded Mike, who turned to see her, "oh, she's updating every student on the latest gossip. I think she just got her best story of the year."

"Hey, Summer View Academy, this is your Nicole updating every single one of you on the latest juicy details and woah, is it juicy? You know Miranda, Queen Bee, yeah, she's officially branded as a backstabber for sending Sammie's nudes around. FYI, yes, she is one humiliated bitch. Sending my love out to you Sam, go kick her ass!" Nicole exclaimed as she ended the video before uploading it, my phone going off at the notification.

"Shit, she's fucking dead, you know," Kelly mumbled as more videos of angry mobs and people appeared on her phone. They just kept going and going. Oh, dear god. My mind was thinking thoughts of karma and all I could do was seal my lips shut so I don't end up saying something I'll regret later on, which is quite difficult considering I'm quite a babbler when I want to be one.

"And you think we give a fuck? Look, some people may feel sorry for her now, but trust me, she's just another one of those girls who'll be forgotten due to her stupid mistakes," Nicole spoke, a frown on her face. Oof, she's a bit snappy today. I know she's an Instagram queen in this school, but she's never usually this snappy.

"Well, fuck me gently with a chainsaw. What's happened to you?" Kelly asked as she shrugged before fixing her ponytail and looking into the distance.

"Have you been watching Heathers again?" Cass turned to look at Kelly, a small grin on her face, "because you've been saying quotes from the film all morning."

Kelly and Cass loved their classic high school movies. I heard they recently watched Mean Girls for the fifth time. Although, I do agree, Heathers is one great film.

"I just find it to be inspirational," she said, "I relate to it more."

"Anyway," Nicole started as she never looked away, "I'm pissed. Can you believe he had the audacity to ask me out and here we are, seeing him flirt with another girl?"

We looked where she was pointing to see Jaxon leaning over another girl, who was extremely close to him. Oh my fucking god. I genuinely thought he was getting back on with Nicole because he was all over her, but apparently not.

"Just leave that jerk. You can do so much better," I said and everyone else looked at me in shock, "what? I'm sorry, but just because I'm friends with him doesn't mean I'll disregard his wrongdoings as something innocent."

Mike groaned in frustration, running a hand through his hair before a frown takes up his face, his cousin joining him.

"Oh god, all this shit's possessed our innocent baby." huh? Innocent baby? Oh, me—wait, what? Hell no. I stuck my tongue out at him, my arms folded over my chest. Never in my life will I allow anyone to call me a baby.

"Don't ever call me that again if you want to live," I muttered and everyone releases a chuckle in response. People were bustling around us to get

"All of you! Get to class!" a teacher yelled and we jumped slightly before walking quickly to our classes. Oh god, that scared the crap out of me, I thought as Nicole dragged me off to Math, which unfortunately for us was on the other side of the school.

"How are you?" he asked as I jumped slightly. It was lunchtime and I stuck with Owen. God knows what was going through my head, but with everything going on with Miranda, I managed to lose my friends.

Stupid fuck.

How the hell do you lose your friends?

"I'm good, thanks," I spoke and he smirked slightly before coming closer to me. Out of instinct, I stepped back, my back leaning against the locker behind me.

"Mind telling me what a pretty girl like you's doing with a fucked-up guy like me?" he said as he slowly made his way to me as I shrugged. If I told him I lost my friends, he's never going to let me hear the end of it. He rolled his eyes a playful grin on his face when suddenly it lights up, "oh yeah, we're going to Calston High in two days."

My eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. What and why? I don't want to go to a school where there are a ton of high teenagers having an orgy. He looked at me as if I was dumb and continued.

"What I mean is, you're going to help me set up a warning for him. We can't have him think we're slacking off. God, I'll never hear the end of it," he spoke before looking around and bending down to my level and bringing his face close to mine. His hot breath fanned against my ear as he whispered, "meet me at the entrance of the school eight am sharp."

My cheeks warmed up slightly as a blush started to form on my face. Slowly, I nodded before gulping. He moved away moving his finger to his lips and I only looked at him with wide eyes. Does he have to be such a tease?

"Well, well, well," I yelped and pushed Owen back as Kelly's voice brought me back to reality. Breathing heavily, I glared holes at her as she giggled, "sorry, did I interrupt something?"

"Just...shut up," groaning in annoyance, I waved to Owen as I started leading Kelly in the other direction, "bye, Owe. Now come on, you're going to buy me lunch for leaving me behind."

She stopped and I end up falling slightly as she tugged me back. The look on her face held a dull look, making it seem as if I was stupid. I ain't paying for a late lunch. That's just bullshit and anyway, she knows how I am without food. Persuading her will be a piece of cake.

"Guys, didn't you hear that Miranda's getting expelled?" I looked up from eating my fries at Mike, who grinned like a little boy. Not only that but he also looks like one today. I knew he had gym today so his shirt was still untucked a bit and his hair messy. Nah, he looks more like he's high, I thought.

Why is it that I have such an evil conscience?

Because it's what you truly think, dumbass.

Let's just go back to the 'Miranda's leaving, whoop!' kind of thing before we get carried away. So, the teachers have finally noticed her rebellious antics, huh? Well, it's about time because I don't know much longer I can actually carry on if she stayed. Kelly and Nicole looked like they already knew and I seemed to be left in the dark with Michael about it, which I'm not really complaining about seeing as I'd rather enjoy my day without hearing Miranda's name in any conversation.

"So what? Like we said earlier, she deserves it. For over five years, she's given us utter hell and now, it's over so we can just forget about her as soon as she steps foot out of school," Nicole mumbled, flicking her dark brown hair over her shoulder. Michael looked at me in confusion as I shrugged. I guess she's still a bit bitter about Jaxon. Nicole's like that when she gets jealous so it doesn't surprise me that she's being salty.

The cafeteria was filled to the brim with students and Miranda and her gang were nowhere to be seen. It seemed as if the queen was officially kicked off her throne as Samantha strode through the room with a grin on her face. Everyone also seemed happy to see Ace back as well.

I still remember how he was with us three years ago. He used to be the Golden Boy of SVA, who was all around perfect. Dashing, intelligent and ambitious: Ace Lachlan Young had a future that was so much brighter than most of the students at the time and was offered a place by some of the top universities in America. He used to date a friend of mine before she tragically died three years ago on his last year, but he seemed to be over her death. It tore him apart and for a while, we thought he wasn't going to make it himself, but he seemed to pull through for everyone and himself. He told us he was going to make a success of himself because he knew his girlfriend would be proud. Ace and his sister didn't look too different and didn't act that different either. They were each other's rocks and it was Ace's job to protect his little sister as it is Owen's job to protect Jax and Coco.

"How are things with Owen? He's not treating you like shit, is he?" Mike muttered as I bit my lip. I smiled before looking down at my fingers, fiddling with them.

"N-No, he's actually being really nice, which I'm surprised about," I said, "I guess he feels sorry for me though. He heard my parents screaming at each other once, but he doesn't know anything else."

He looked at me for a moment before sighing. Sure, I may know his past, but I don't think I'd want him to know about mine. I wasn't embarrassed about it, but I just hated telling people this stuff. Owen and his friends weren't here because I saw them leave school a couple of hours ago. Nobody seemed to care that they were gone let alone noticed.

"Maybe it wouldn't be the best thing to keep this from him. I get it, he's Owen and he's not exactly easy to get on with, but if you're helping him, I'm sure he'd want to know any other problems that are there."

I shook my head in response before whispering to him to be quiet whilst my eyes scanned through the crowd to see if anyone's noticed us talking about my...issues. I've already told myself that if it doesn't involve them, then why should they know? Owen may be helping me in a sense, but after he's done with Liam, he won't need me anymore and things will go back to how they were before. He'll probably get kicked out of school again and I'm moving on with my life with mom.

"No, I can't just tell him. He wouldn't understand." you fucking dipshit. Both his parents were killed and you'd think he wouldn't understand. Just wait till I knock some sense into your fucked up br—" anyway, I don't really think it's important in his cause to take down Liam."

"If you say so, but I'm really starting to believe the two of you are hitting it off." that caused everyone on our lunch table to go silent. Nicole dropped her spoon onto the table and Kelly looked at us in shock. Ethan arched an eyebrow in our direction and Mike just casually shrugged, "what? Oh, don't tell me the two are getting awfully close. It's so obvious, I'm surprised you guys haven't noticed."

Cass nodded excitedly before a grin appears on her petite face.

"Hm, yeah, I've noticed they're literally like best friends," she exclaimed and I immediately shushed her by chucking a straw at her face. She dodges it expertly before sticking her tongue out like a child, "are you sure you two aren't dating?"

Kelly gasps, covering her mouth as Nicole slaps Cass on the arm with a glare on her face. Mike proceeded to slap her on the back of her head. She released a few groans in pain, rubbing her arm and head before huffing in annoyance.

"We were joking around, Cass, but that's a bit far. You know not to hint if she's dating anyone," Nicole snaps and I raised my hands up at them in surrender.

Ever since my breakup with Jordan, they've been very careful when talking about dating in front of me. They used to do it all the time after we broke up and I just broke down after so they've had a pact between themselves to be very careful with their words. I'm a big girl though. I'm not that crybaby, who lacked good judgment and determination. I've changed and I've grown into the kind of person I've always wanted to be. Strong and independent.

"No, it's fine guys. I've grown out of that habit and it's time to move forward with life. I mean, one little hiccup can't stop me," I spoke as they all nodded before smiling proudly at me.

"Yeah, we're really glad you've grown into this kind of girl, B. This style and this personality really suits you and we're really proud that you've picked yourself up," Kelly said as I nodded, biting my lip in response.

Yeah, I'm proud of myself too.
