Dhruv

******

I was about to leave early from the office as everyone was going out to have dinner except me. Again I had to make an excuse for a meeting and like always no one said anything except grandpa who was still cranky because of me ignoring Saavi.

I was glad that Saavi was getting along with them and finally she was going back to normal without me.

It hurts that she was happy and going back to normalcy without me beside her.

'Was I being too selfish?', I thought.

I had gone to meet Rajesh Pandey's family in the morning but they all had gone out of the country as told by their neighbours so I came back disappointed. Even Lucifer was not giving any leads.

It seemed I would have to double the torture. But then I thought, it would be better if I find any weakness in him. That way it would be easier to make him spill the truth.

I checked the time and sighed thinking it's time to leave home. It was eight in the night and I was sure they all must have left.

But to make sure that it was not any trick played by my sister or grandpa I called one of my men whom I had asked to keep an eye on my family members. I knew how cunning my grandpa was, and my sister, well, she was the smartest and I didn't want to fall into their trap.

"Hello, Anil. Dhruv this side. Did they leave?"

"Yes Sir, all of them left."

"How many of them were in total?"

"Seven."

"Tell me the estimated age of everyone." According to his answer, every family member had left.

The path was clear so I closed my laptop and picking up my stuff went to the parking lot.

I drove towards my house thinking to rest more as my head was aching terribly.

I was being apprehensive since morning thinking what if something goes wrong, what if Dhruv doesn't show up, what if Dhruv doesn't recognize me.

All those what-ifs were eating up my head. According to Dhriti, I was overthinking but being in my situation I guess anyone will.

Also, my inferior complexities were not letting me breathe. I had checked myself in front of the mirror for I don't know how many times. I couldn't decide whether should I let my hair fall freely or should I make braids. I had changed several outfits as if I was going on a date.

I was far from normalcy that evening. My mind was not working and my heart, well don't even start me on it.

"Calm down Saavi," Dhriti said.

"I...I can't."

"Sit here." She made me sit on the bed and tried to pacify me.

"Don't think anything. I know it's tough but just don't think anything and go with the flow. Everything will fall right back at the place, okay?"

I smiled nodding. I was thankful that I had a friend like a sister to rely on. She was just like Dhruv and her aura was so positive that it could calm anyone's anxious nerves.

"Now, listen. As I have told you that we are going out for dinner and Dhruv has no idea that you are staying back. I have lied to the family about your well-being and don't ask me how I convinced them to go out. Now they all believe that you are ill. Don't go out of this room before 8, no wait, before you hear the sound of a car horn and I am sure that you will hear exactly at 8:30 and also don't even go to the balcony."

Although I didn't understand the reason behind those instructions, I still didn't even ask. At that time my main focus was Dhruv and not the reasons why Dhriti was telling me to stay in the room.

Instructing me Dhriti left with everyone wishing me good luck.

As I sat inside the car Namit drove towards our house as all of us were about to stay at our house only.

"Thanks, Shruti," I said who was sitting beside me in the backseat.

"You don't need to thank me. I did that for my friend."

"By the way, are you sure Dhruv took the bait?" Shruti asked.

"Of course he did," I replied.

My brother thought he was quite smart and I would not know that he had one of his men watching over us. But I too had the genes of the same parents. I knew his plan so I made Shruti join us for the night stay and Dhruv's appointed man saw us getting out of the house. I was sure he would tell Dhruv that seven members left the house and then only my brother would leave the office.

Mark, Namit's security chief had already informed me that Dhruv had left his office and in half an hour he would be at home.

'Sorry, brother, I had to lie and had to trap you in your web but all of this only for your happiness.' I said in mind.

I reached the house exactly at 8:30 p.m and headed towards my room. After freshening up I changed into my nightwear and went straight to the kitchen.

I was famished but was exhausted to cook. I thought to check the fridge whether there was some leftover or not and to my surprise, there was a vanilla Milkshake.

I took a glass of it, gulped it in one go, and made my way to the study deciding to work for a while only to distract my mind.

The house was very quiet to my surprise as I couldn't find any housekeeper. It felt as if they all were on leave.

Sitting on the big leather chair I was looking at my emails but the throbbing pain in my head didn't let me. Closing the laptop abruptly I rested my head on the back of the chair and closed my eyes.

A few seconds later something soft ran through my hair. I opened my eyes and saw the most beautiful pair of black eyes looking at me with concern.

'Great! Dhruv Kapoor, now you are daydreaming.' I thought and again closed my eyes.

The delicate fingers of her were running through my hair so softly and I almost slept when it felt real.

Opening my eyes when the realization hit me I swatted away her hand as I was too shocked to respond.

I blinked my eyes rapidly but she didn't disappear. To confirm if she was really there I touched her with a finger and yes she was right there in front of my eyes.

"Hi," she said.

"What are you doing here?" Wasn't she supposed to be with the family?

"What?" she asked being perplexed.

"I thought you were gone with others."

"I didn't."

'Then why did Anil lied to me? Or whether he saw someone else instead of Saavi?', I wondered.

We looked into each other eyes and she had some unreadable emotion in them. I took a step forward towards her but then my gaze fell upon her wrist that still had the white bandage wrapped around it.

Guilt overpowered me and I reminded myself that I was culpable for what had happened to her.

She hid her hand behind her back sensing my gaze on it but it was too late.

I moved back from her and went towards the door when she called, "Dhruv."

I didn't stop.

"Dhruv, wait," she yelled. I could hear her trembling voice and damn that hurt so bad.

I ran outside while she followed.

"Dhruv, please. Dhruv, don't leave me please." her voice was getting weaker and like a coward, I ran outside, sat in my car, and drove away, far away from her.

I was in my room staring at the clock now and then. It was still five minutes left for 8:30.

'Should I go out?' I thought but then remembered Dhriti's instruction and decided to wait.

Though it was a matter of only five minutes, for me it was approx to five centuries.

I heard the horn of the car and went to the balcony in excitement. Parking the car Dhruv came out but I couldn't see him clearly.

My hands got sweaty due to nervousness. Taking deep breathes I decided to go out but stopped when heard footsteps. I stayed back and with every passing second, the sound became more clear but stopped near my room.

I heard the door of the adjacent room being opened as it was Dhruv's room. My mind and my heart were having disputes. My heart wanted me to go to his room while my mind was saying otherwise.

I had not decided to listen to whom when I heard the footsteps again, descending the stairs.

Tiptoeing I went down where I saw him drinking Vanilla Milkshake. I felt a little happy as I was the one who had made it.

He soon went out of my sight and I noticed him going towards the study. Picking up the last amount of audacity left in me I followed him. When I entered I found him resting his head on the back of the chair and that's when I saw his face after eleven days of hell.

Eleven days meant, 950, 400 seconds. So for me, I faced hell for 950, 400 seconds.

My heart constricted when I had a closer look at his face. His face had lost its charm and he looked so tired as if he hadn't slept for a very long time.

It hurts when you realize that you are the one accountable for the miseries of the one person you love.

I couldn't help myself and my fingers automatically made it's way to his hair. For a while, he considered me as an illusion but was stunned when he realized I was real.

I saw him making a move, taking a step forward but he stopped and his gaze was fixed at something. When I realized it was my hand, I hid it behind me but the damage was already done.

In no time his eyes were filled with guilt, the guilt of something I was responsible for.

He started to move away farther from me.

"Dhruv," I called him but he didn't stop.

"Dhruv, wait." I tried to stop him but he was not listening. I felt hurt, but he was hurt more than me.

My pain became invisible to me as all I could see was him in pain.

"Dhruv, please. Dhruv, don't leave me please." I shouted and as always my tears betrayed me. I saw him leaving me. He was going farther and I slumped down crying over my cruel fate.

'Did he feel the same when I left him? Am I being punished for the deed I didn't do deliberately?' Those were the disturbing thoughts clouding my mind.

She was right all along. I didn't deserve to be loved. I was a curse and a curse is only lifted not loved.
