On may 14, 1957, Elvis swallowed a tooth cap from one of his teeth while working on the dance sequence to his film, jailhouse rock.

The studio doctor put Elvis under and went in with a special instrument to retrieve the cap from Elvis's lung; apparently the cap broke into two pieces, and the doctor had to repeat the procedure, but was able to successfully remove the pieces.

Upon his arrival at the studio, colonel Parker became nearly apoplectic after hearing the news of the doctor having to spread Elvis's vocal chords in order to do the procedure, realising how it could of ended Elvis's singing career had his vocal chords been damaged.
