On the morning of January 8, 1935, Gladys presley delivered two sons. The first, jesse Garon, was stillborn. Thirty-five minutes later, his twin brother Elvis Aron was born.

Although Gladys would have showered affection on both her sons, as the surviving brother, Elvis became even dearer to her.

The troubled delivery of Elvis and his brother made it unlikely she could have more children, so she was devoted to her only child.

She regularly encouraged Elvis to follow his dreams and held firm in her belief that he would one day be successful.

Elvis returned that affection and devotion to his mother. As he grew older, he looked upon her as both his mother and best friend.
