Ellison Taylor

El and Cooper came in late to school that day. They looked perfect from head to toes while their faces look miserable while approaching Ian who was busy typing on his phone.

"Hey..." Cooper said as soon as he was near us.

"How was it?" Ian asked his eyes twinkling with mischief as he put his phone away.

"You will be hearing earful from your Dad later." El said with a smug look. "He didn't look happy at all with your absence."

I have no idea what they were talking about and I didn't want to know further details as it might be too personal and I don't want to cross that line.

"Tell me something new?" Ian asked with a bored attitude. Just in time, the bell rang saving me from listening to their personal talk. "I have a meeting to attend, catch up with you guys later." I said quickly trying to move away from them.

"What meeting?" Ian asked.

"Just club meeting." I said as I waved them goodbye.

Before Ian could question me. Cooper said something that I didn't hear which had caught Ian's interest as he was listening attentively with amusement in his eyes. Ian somehow found out about where the meeting was because as soon as I stepped out of the room I see him casually leaning against a locker with some students gathered around him.

"We don't want unnecessary trouble." Mike from my quiz club spat in disgust at the sight of Ian.

"He is nice if you get to know him." I defended Ian. "He won't be bringing trouble." I promised him as I approached Ian.

"Hey peanut!" He said as soon as he saw me. I waved at him, noticing all the glares from the people around him. Awkwardly I walked towards him. "Excuse me, I have to actually go somewhere." He said as he pulled me along with him.

"What is it?" I asked.

"What are you doing this afternoon?" He asked as he stopped to turn and look at me.

"Work?" I sounded unsure, but in reality I was telling the truth.

"How about after work?" He asked.

"I'm closing today, so I won't be off until 10 pm." I said blinking my eyes in confusion.

"Damn it." He whispered under his breath. "How about tomorrow afternoon?"

"I have to go with Claire for her piano's rehearsal."

He seemed frustrated by now. "How about day after tomorrow?"

"Working." I said.

"Do you do anything apart from work?"

"Excuse me?" I was annoyed now. "People have to work to save money unlike some people who are loaded."

He glared at me and I did the same. He walked away leaving me in that busy hallway. I felt guilty when I saw him in the cafeteria. He was sitting with his usual group in the middle of the cafeteria. They were loud and cheery today. Was I suppose to feel miserable? My only excuse to be misery is that whatever I'm doing, it's for my future. I can make more friends in the future. I have Claire with me so I'm all good.

"Did you two have a fight?" Claire asked as she put her tray down and sat across from me, hiding me from the group that I wanted to hide.

"Not really." I lied. "What time do I have to be there in the hall tomorrow?" I asked, quickly changing the topic.

"Five pm would be perfect." She said smiling. "Thanks for taking a day off from work, I know you are trying to save money and all and you clearing your schedule for me means a lot."

"Thank his for inviting me though." I said honestly. I won't be there on the real day that she is performing as there is limited seatings and her families will be going, which is why I decided to go for her rehearsal just to cheer her up.

Wilson sat down beside me in the quiet library. "What are yuh doing?" He whispered as he looked at my laptop.

"Doing research for our science's assignment."

He cringed and sighed. "I'm so behind in assignments."

"But you got extensions due to your leave right?"

"Yes, but I have to catch up quickly before our quizzes."

I grimaced at the thought, poor Wilson now have to figure out within three weeks before exams week.

"If you can't understand anything, I can explain." I offered. "I may not be as good as Claire, but I can try."

"I really appreciated that." He said giving me a small smile. "Can you explain me this math problem?" He asked as he opened the book.

Things couldn't have been much more better with a group of diners walking in five minutes before the closing.

'You guys are still open right?' A light blond woman asked.

"We are still open but since we'll be closing in five minutes and our chefs already started cleaning we have limited menus." I explained.

"Whatever you can serve us, please go ahead." One of the male guest asked.

"I'll go and asked what we can do for you." I said.

Brandon, the one who was working in the kitchen was not so happy as he cussed while taking out ingredients from the fridge. We all had to stay back until 12 am for this group of people and all I can say was no one was happy as they walked quickly towards the exit with their things as they said goodbyes.

"You need a ride home?" Ben asked.

"Yes please." I said as Brent is still working late today. I bent down to tie my shoe laces ,Just then we heard the front door of the diner opening and Ben said, "Sorry we are closed."

"I actually came to pick Ellison up." I heard the familiar voice as I stood up to see Ian waving at me. This was my first time seeing him without his uniform. I thought he looked perfect in uniforms but boy, was I wrong. He was wearing a light blue denim jacket on top of his grey V-neck shirt, with black ripped jeans and Vans.

"Oh." Ben said, surprised as he looked at me for answer.

"He's my classmate." I explained.

"Very well." Ben said. "You want to go with him or with me?"

"She will come with me, sir." Ian asked politely. I'm surprise by his manners. Ben looked at me and I nodded my head awkwardly.

"Drive safe and stay safe." He said to us as we walked to the parking lot.

"What are you doing here?" I asked as soon as he started driving.

"I came to pick you up?" He said. "I thought you were getting off at 10?" He questioned.

"We had some customers who came in late."

He sighed.

"How do you know where I work?" I questioned him.

"Claire." He said in an obvious tone.

"Do you know where I even live?" I asked.

"That's actually a good question.." he said pausing. "Where do you live?" As he give me a quick sheepish look.
