A silent night was interrupted by the sound of shuffling and murmuring.

"No.. Where.." Maya's voice can be heard, tossing and turning in her sleep. The poor girl was having a bad dream, a nightmare.

IN MAYA'S NIGHTMARE:

Maya was swimming around, trying to look for Y/N and Manu.

She saw the Sully family successfully retreat from the sinking ship. Maya felt some relief wash over her.

"JAKE! NEYTIRI!" Maya shouts, waving her hands at the family.

"Oh, Maya! I'm so glad you're alright!" Neytiri exclaims, embracing the girl.

Maya hugs Neytiri back, before looking around.

"Where's Y/N and Manu?" Maya asks, looking around.

Neytiri's smile drops, and Jake's eyes soften.

"Maya.." Neytiri says, looking at the girl. Maya knew, but couldn't believe it. Not yet.

"Where are they? I'm sure they're with you guys." Maya says, growing impatient.

"Maya-"

"No. Where..where are they, Neytiri? Jake? Tell me. Just point in a direction and I'll search for them myself." Maya begs. She is about to continue her pleas when she hears splashing in the water below her.

Looking down, her heart stops at the sight before her. Neteyam and Lo'ak ride their ilu's, holding onto her two younger siblings.

As they got closer, all she saw was red. Red soaked into their clothes, red dried on their skin, red coloring the water around them, red everywhere.

"Blood.." Maya mutters, rushing towards the boys.

"Maya-"

"No, give them to me." Maya demands, trying to pull Y/N and Manu away from the boys.

Jake suddenly pulls Maya back, "Maya..they're gone." Jake states somberly.

Hearing those three words, Maya's ears perk up and she feels her world stop moving. Her heart stop beating. Her eyes burn.

As if she had died twice.

Her eyes widen, before filling with salty tears. Her hands grew clammy. Her breathing quickened.

Yet, at this moment - all she wanted to do was hold them.

Just as she did when they were young.

"Let go of me, Sully." Maya threatens, pushing him off of her before taking Manu and Y/N's bodies into her arms.

Maya feels her own body shake, as she sits down. Hearing the waves splash against the rock, as debris and smoke fills her lungs.

Laying Manu's head on her left leg, and Y/N's head on her right.

Caressing their faces, faces that were once warm and full of life, but are now icy cold.

Braiding their hair that painted her fingertips a deep red.

Talking to them, but receiving no response.

"Manu..my brave boy." Maya whispers, brushing the hair away from his face. Gently tracing his cheeks, his eyelids, with her blood-stained fingers.

"Y/N..." Maya's voice cracks.

"Why. Why must this happen again? I promised you both I'd protect you, but now..I have nothing. Nothing. Nobody." Maya continues.

"When I walk back into our home, I won't be hearing you guys argue. No more of Manu's snoring, no more of Y/N's rambling. I have no more family." Maya mumbles.

"What am I supposed to do? Now that my only purpose here, is gone?" Maya asks, grasping her two younger siblings' hands.

"My Manu..My Y/N.."

Waking up, Maya was sweating a LOT.

"Finally you're up." Manu says, tossing something at Maya.

Looking down, she sees that he passed her-

"The bow and arrow.." Maya mutters.

"Yep. Neytiri said you should keep it just in case.. y'know." Manu adds.

"Yeah..thanks, Manu." Maya states, getting up and fixing her bedding.

"What's up with you? You were like.. sleep talking. I didn't wanna say anything, but it looks like you're about to shit yourself." Manu asks, helping Maya fix her bed.

"It's nothing, Manu." Maya reassures as she finishes cleaning up.

"Mhm.." Manu hums, looking unconvinced.

"C'mon, let's go outside. I need some fresh air." Maya suggests, putting the bow and arrow beside her bed as she walks out.

"Alright." Manu says, walking beside his older sister.

Y/N is sitting with the Sully kids.

"Your parents are so cool." Y/N randomly says, while playing Rock-Paper-Scissors with Tuk.

Neteyam chuckles, "Yeah, they are.." he responds.

Kiri sighs, scooting next to Y/N.

Lo'ak didn't say anything, mainly because he was asleep.

"Where are your parents Y/N?" Tuk asks, tilting her head curiously.

Kiri stays silent, also quite curious about Y/N's parents.

Neteyam is about to apologize for Tuk's bluntness but gets interrupted.

"They're someplace far away." The girl responds, ruffling the younger girl's hair.

Tuk laughs, trying to push Y/N's hands away.

"Are they.." Kiri ponders, feeling pity for Y/N.

"No, they're fine. I think." Y/N answers, looking at Kiri.

"You think?"

"Yeah."

Meanwhile, Maya and Manu were talking with Aonung, Rotxo, and Tsireya.

"Now, I have a suggestion.." Manu says, pressing his hands together.

"What is it?" Aonung asks.

"If we run out of food, we can- and hear me out- we can cook the ilu-"

"NO!" Aonung shouts, throwing sand at the boy.

"EY! IT WAS JUST A SUGGESTION-"

"WHY WOULD YOU EVEN THINK OF THAT-"

Rotxo facepalms, holding Aonung back from lunging at Manu- who laughs at how angry Aonung looked.

Tsireya sighs, "that's enough you two." She says, looking at Maya for help.

"Manu, stop laughing." Maya scolds, flicking his ear.

Manu yelps, holding the ear she had flicked.

•••

Neteyam sat beside Y/N, as they both stare at the ocean.

Neteyam gets nostalgia from the night before.

He feels his heart race, as his fingers brush against Y/N's.

"It's cool here." Y/N comments randomly.

"Oh, yeah.. you're pretty cool." Neteyam mumbles, looking down at his lap.

"Huh?"

"I SAID- you're pretty cool Y/N." He repeats, trying to calm the butterflies in his stomach.

Y/N stops, before laughing.

"I am pretty cool." She agrees smugly, nodding to herself.

"You're cool too, Neteyam." Y/N adds, turning to the boy, who.

Hearing this, his eyes gaze at you.

"Y/N.." he whispers.

"Neteyam." Y/N replies, copying the boy.

He laughs.

"You are.. incredible, Ma Y/N."

It is silent until she replies.

"I know I am, Ma Neteyam."

*I hope this was alright. Stay safe everyone!*
