"I love you."

I swear to fucking god my heart stopped.  The three words echoed throughout my head as if they never really were said.

I want to know what's going on within her head. She had closed her eyes one minute, melting against my lips on her neck. The next she started screaming and threw herself out of the bath, onto the floor.

Her hands were clinging onto my back, I slowly pulled her off the ground and into my arms. She was cold, I could feel her shivering against me.

I laid her down in the bed, pulling the sheets over her, sliding into the bed on the other side. She moved closer to me, laying her head on my chest.

"H-he," She stuttered.

"Shh, you don't have to talk about it right now Lyla," I spoke and she silently agreed with me.

She had eventually fallen asleep, her breathing was regulated and her body was relaxed, which was the only way I could tell.

Everytime my hand had run down her back I could feel the scares, they were ragged and swollen. He fucking knew what he was doing, he was breaking her in every way possible, making sure she knew and would remember every fucking thing that he did.

Not even 10 minutes later, Lyla had woken up. Her hand was circling the tattoos that littered my chest, she was focusing on something other than her thoughts.

"Do you want something to eat?" I questioned. She was doing things I didn't think she would 2 weeks ago, maybe she would eat now.

Her green eyes glanced up at me before she mumbled out a "yeah."

She was willing to try, and that's all I needed.

I slowly sat up, letting her move off of me, before I walked over to the closet. I could feel her eyes on me as I walked away, something she used to do when I got up in the morning.

I slipped on some clothes before walking back out, she was sitting up in the bed, once again watching me silently.

She was so strong.

"I'll be back in a couple minutes Ly," I smiled, and she gave me a small nod, pushing herself back into one fo the pillows.

I gently shut the door behind me, making my way down the hall, when I approached the stairs, I could see them all on the couch.

I was gonna fucking kill Joey.

I made my way towards him, ignoring the calls from Dante and Megan.

"You are a fucking asshole." I yell pointing at him.

He quickly stands up, holding his hands in the air, "Easton, I swear, I didn't do anything."

"Tell me what the fuck you said to her!"

"I just wanted to know how she was doing! I didn't say anything else." He confessed backing away from me.

Fucking coward.

"Get the fuck out." I turned my back to him, facing Dante and Megan now. I kept silent until I heard the front door close.

"She wants to eat," I smile at them which causes Megan to sqeal. A fucking annoying sound, I have now heard one to many times.

"Okay! So what does she want?" She questioned getting up from the couch.

"Uh-" I scratch the back of my neck. I was too excited to ask her what she wanted, I just know she wanted food.

"You didn't fucking ask her?" She raised her voice.

I open my mouth but someone else's voice speaks over mine.

"I want strawberries." Her small voice spoke causing me to turn my head, she was slowly walking down the stairs. My shirt pulled over her body, down to her mid-thighs.

I could feel the smile forming on my face, I was so proud of her, she was doing so well. She was escaping from her own mind, and trying to do better.

I walked over to her, her arms wrapped around my neck and she whispered into my ear, "I missed you."

When she let go, she seamlessly hid behind my body. She gripped my hand from behind, and I gave her hand a small squeeze.

She was scared, she didn't want to let anyone else in. I looked over, both Megan and Dante were standing there, watching us. Megan's face was full of pain, I believe that she knew Lyla wasn't ready to go back to normal.

I gave her a sad smile, and she shrugged her shoulder. Dante then pulled her into him, her head buried in his chest.

"Okay, come on." I turned back to Lyla, walking into the kitchen. She slide onto one of the chairs at the island, while I walked around opening up the fridge.

I searched in the fridge finally finding the strawberries, when I heard a voice. "Oh hey East, who's the pretty brunette?"

I quickly turn to see Axel standing at the kitchen door, his eyes are fixed on the back of Lyla's head, yet my eyes are fixed on Lyla's face. She was slowly sinking into herself, I could see it in her eyes, she was growing smaller into her own body.

"Get the fuck out!" I yell causing Axel to jump, closing the door behind him.

I walked over spinning her chair around to face me, her eyes were closed. I couldn't lose her again.

"No no no, baby, open your eyes. It's me." I whisper softly.

No reaction.

"Ly, no one is ever going to hurt you here, I promise on my life, I won't let anything happen to you." I whisper holding her face in my hands.

"Please, open your eyes."

She had no reaction. Her eyes remained closed, I pushed my forehead against hers, I just got her back, I was not losing her because of Axel's stupid fucking mistake.

She slowly opened her eyes, looking into mine, she was still here.

And then tears slowly started slipping down her cheeks, the amount of fear in her eyes was terrifying. Her arms reached up and brought me closer to her, I didn't mind, she was the only person, that I could ever be this soft with, I would never lay a fucking hand on her.

"I'm sorry," she whispered.

She didn't want to be scared, I knew what she was apologizing for. But she had no reason to apologize, this wasn't her fault, and it would never be.

"Are you okay?" I questioned. I knew the most truthful answer was no, yet she replied with "yes." She wanted to be okay, and I wasn't going to force her to face that she wasn't, she had been through to much already, and I didn't want her to push me away.

"Okay," I whispered, kissing the top of her head. She pulled away, wiping the sides of her face, her eyes were swollen red.

It pained me to see her like this.

"I love you, beautiful," I whispered before kissing her tear-stained cheek.

I passed her the container of strawberries, and she gave me a small smile opening them. I sat there, watching her eat, the first thing she had eaten in weeks, and she chooses strawberries. She was constantly looking around her, it never stopped.

The continuous thoughts in my head circulated about what he had done to her, to break her spirit. There was only one thing, that I believe I know he did, but she would have to tell me. And I will kill the son of a bitch over it.

She brought her hand up to my cheek, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"I love you." Her voice was soft, I think she was trying to give me a heart attack.

And then she did something, I wouldn't have thought she would do, she kissed me. Her lips touched mine lightly and then she pulled away.

"I think I want to go back to bed," She says simply, slowly standing up from her chair. I gave her a small smile as we walked out of the kitchen.

They were all once again sitting on the couch, Axel's face was full of guilt, never had I seen that before, no matter what he did.

I helped her up the stairs and to my room, where she went straight into the bed, curling up under the covers. I slide in on the other side of the bed, I didn't want her to be alone, more than that, I didn't want her to feel alone.

No matter how far away we started from each other in the bed, she would always find her way over to me and sleep with her head on my chest. Even when she didn't talk, she had always fallen asleep on me, as if it brought her peace.

Within minutes the familiar steady breathing took over her and she was asleep. And not long after I felt myself drifting off.

Yet, I woke up without her. Which caused my heart to race, I was so used to her being here, that without her, caused panic to overcome my body. I turned over to look at the clock, 4 am, where the fuck would she be at 4 in the morning.

I opened the door, the hallway was dimly lit, everyone was fucking asleep.

Yet at the end of the hall, the room was glowing. I made my way towards it, the door was open a crack. I looked in, and I sure as hell am glad that I did.

The pictures were scattered all over the floor, yet she was bundled up in the corner on the couch, with a blanket and a book. The most beautiful smile formed on her face, it wasn't one of the ones she had attempted to give me, her eyes were smiling along with her lips.

She deserved to be happy.

And that smile, that told me everything I needed to know.

She was going to make it through this.

-

I love them.
