The next day, they left early in the morning so that they could get to Manchester in time for dinner. George offered to drive so Matty and Kat sat up front with him in this large van that Angie had managed to get them.

They played music, a lot of tame impala and old garage music from back in the day. George found it difficult to drive while Kat and Matty were moshing next to him.

"Fuck off or I'll turn it off." He yelled as he swerved to try and avoid hitting a car. "I have no idea how to drive this fucking thing." He hissed. Kat was sat in between the two boys and tapped George on the shoulder.

"It's okay, Georgie. We'll calm down. What song do you want on?" She asked. Matty started to scroll through his Spotify to see.

"Oh hang on guys. My mums calling" Matty disconnected his phone and held it up to his ear. "Hello there mother." He answered. Kat smiled at his reaction to hearing his mum's voice.

"Hello darling. Where are you in the world?" She laughed.

"Currently on the M1, slowly making our way to the M6." He answered. George looked at one of the signs, they still had a long way to go.

"Oh, are you coming to visit?" She asked. Matty had walked straight into that one.

"Well, I'm helping Kat move to London this weekend. Meeting her dad tonight but maybe we could swing by on the way back tomorrow?" He looked at Kat, who's eyes widened. She didn't know if they had time for that.

"Don't worry about it if you're helping Kat. Is she there?" She asked. Matty smirked.

"Yeah she's sat right next me." Kat snapped her head to him and watched as he handed her the phone. "Of course you can speak to her." He passed her the phone and Kat placed it her ear.

"Hey Denise." She breathed.

"Hey Denise!" George yelled over, Kat giggled.

"Hello guys! Kat I just want to say congratulations on your new job. I'm so proud!" She beamed. Kat felt all warm inside.

"Oh thank you so much. I'm already a few days in but I love it." She watched Matty's hand place itself on her thigh and squeeze it.

"You'll have to come and visit when I film Loose Women." She suggested. Kat adored Denise as the mum that she never had.

"Of course. I would love that." Matty took the phone off her quickly.

"Mum, stop hogging my favourite person. We'll come and visit you maybe tomorrow. Is Louis there?" He wondered.

"Matthew don't be rude. Louis' out right now but he's here this weekend so you can see him too." She informed him.

"Good good. Kat's never met Louis so that'll be good." He squeezed her leg and she pulled a face.

"Okay I'll leave you to it. See you soon. Love you"

"Love you too, bye." He hung up and suddenly felt the need to kiss Kat. He kissed her cheek to get her attention and when she turned he caught her on the lips.

"Lads, I love you both but can we keep the PDA to a minimum please?" George complained. Matty grabbed Kat and started to kiss all over her, she screamed and elbowed him in the gut which made Matty yell out in pain. "I'm gonna throw us over a bridge in a minute I swear to god!" George yelled.

They arrived later than they had hoped. George dropped them off at Kat's dads place before driving around to see his mum and dad. They had agreed to meet back at Kat's place which wasn't too far from either.

"Ready?" Kat asked. Matty all of sudden looked extremely nervous.

"Last time I met someone's parents they basically told me to fuck off and die so..." He shoved his hands in his jean pockets but Kat pulled out the one closer to her and put hers in it firmly.

"That was Alice. Her parents were like rednecks who expect a fucking Harvard student. My dad would be happy if I bring back a homeless man." She spoke honestly as she pressed the doorbell.

"Kiss." He said, seeing a figure approach the door. She kissed him quickly and the door opened to reveal her dad.

"Hey dad." She grinned, letting go of Matty's band and wrapping her arms around her dad.

"Hey hun." He squeezed her tightly. She let go and turned to introduce Matty.

"This is my boyfriend, Matty." She grinned happily. Her dad watched her face before looking at the boy stood in front of him. Matty's hair was extra curly that day, making him look slightly like a mushroom. He had a green plain t shirt on and a dark denim jacket on over the top. Below, he just wore black trousers and converse.

"Nice to meet you, sir." Matty held out his hand. Kat's dad took it and shook it firmly.

"Likewise. I've heard a lot about you." He smiled. Matty stepped into the house and shut the door behind him. He slipped an arm around Kat and kissed her head as they followed her dad into the dining room.

"I like your house, sir." Matty said honestly.

"Thank you but please call me Rob." He answered. "Do you want a drink? Wine? Beer?" He asked. Matty breathed in, he didn't want to make a fool of himself but he didn't want to come across as a recovering alcoholic.

"Uh, glass of red would be amazing thanks." He decided. Kat squeezed his arm and agreed as they sat down at the dinner table.

"Smells good dad." Kat complimented as he brought out a bottle of wine and poured everyone a glass.

"It's just beef and vegetables. You're not vegetarian are you?" He asked Matty, who just shook his head. "Ah, good."

"I wish I had the self control for that." Matty joked, making them both smile.

Rob brought out the food and served them all. Matty hadn't had a home cooked meal in a while. He took the opportunity to raise his wine glass and put a hand on Kat's chair.

"Can I just say, because I haven't had the chance to yet, congratulations to Kat for her new job." Matty grinned at her and she mirrored his expression.

"Yes, I am very proud." Her dad smiled, raising his glass. He watched as his daughter flashed her best smile at his boy next to her and he seemed to be giving his best to her. It was sweet to say the least. They cheersed their glasses and Kat kissed Matty on the cheek and thanked him. "So Kat, how is it so far?" He asked.

"It's hard. I meet with a lot of people in a day, a lot of them are full of themselves and seem to think they are gods gift to earth and the others are shitty at writing songs." She explained.

"Which one are you?" Her dad wondered. She smiled cheekily.

"Obviously god's gift to earth." She replied. Both men started laughing. Matty practically shovelled his good down and gulped his wine as if he had been starved for days.

"So Matty, you're in that band." Rob started the conversation.

"Yeah, the 1975." He nodded, Rob squinted his eyes.

"How did you come up with that name? It's...unique." He wondered. Matty nodded.

"Well thank you, first of all. Unique is definitely what I would call it. Basically, I found an old book in a car boot sale and in the back was all these weird scribble drawings." He was explaining it with his hands, Kat loved it when he spoke with his hands. "And one of the scribbles said '1st June, the 1975' and the 'the' kind of stuck with me." He shrugged and ate his last piece of broccoli.

"That's very interesting." Her dad nodded, rather impressed.

"Thanks, I think so." He agreed. Kat grinned at the two men getting on. She didn't think it would go this well.

"Is your band doing well? Making decent money?" He wondered. Kat's eyes widened.

"Dad." She scolded but Matty laughed.

"No that's fair. I wouldn't want my daughter to be dating some shitty musician." He shrugged to Kat. "We do okay so far. We're going to try and make our second album soon since our first one went well." He explained.

"And the tour was okay?" He poured them all another glass of wine. Matty nodded.

"Yeah, a few more dates to go" he nodded, taking the glass and sipping it. "London and then two shows in Ireland."

"So you two are heading off tomorrow?" He asked.

"Yeah and then Matty goes off on tour again for another week." Kat squeezed his leg and raised her eyebrows at him.

"Well, if you weren't such a great songwriter you would be with me." He retaliated, she giggled and sipped her wine.

"How's Angie, Kat? Is she doing okay?" Her dad asked. Matty looked up and saw the wave of sadness wash over his face.

"She's trying to get her job back in London." She replied. "I think she's doing okay but she did just dump Matty's best mate so I'm worried about her judgements." Kat replied honestly. Matty just nodded in agreement.

"Oh no, Matty I'm sorry." He chuckled slightly. "My daughters make poor decisions sometimes." He laughed.

"It's her loss. George is fantastic." Matty replied. Kat nodded.

"It's true. George is fantastic. I would've definitely dated him if I hadn't of met Matty." She pushed her hand into Matty's head of hair and ruffled it.

"Well, that's comforting." He laughed, she laughed with him. Rob laughed too before shaking his head and standing up to put the dishes away. Kat nudged Matty and he automatically stood up to help. Rob turned around to go to the kitchen and Matty stole a kiss so he slapped his bum as he walked past with the plates.

The night was over before they knew it. Kat wrapped her arms around her dad and squeezed him tightly.

"He's good." He whispered in her ear. She squeezed him again and let go. Matty shook his hand.

"It was really great to meet you." He said to Rob.

"And you Matty. Keep an eye out for my girls in London for me." He placed his hand over their joined hands.

"Of course." He smiled, letting go of his hand and wrapping it around Kat as they left the house.

"See, That didn't go too badly." Kat wrapped both arms around his body as they walked down the road.

"You're dad is so nice." Matty beamed. "No ones dad likes me at first glance. That was amazing!" She giggled and stopped them for a second. He leant down and kissed her hard. "You know it still shocks me sometimes that we're dating." He chuckled. Kat pulled a face.

"Why?"

"Because..." he started, her eyebrows furrowed. "You were this girl who was adamant she didn't want a relationship and I was a drug addict. I never thought I would deserve you let alone clean up and get you." He replied. Kat stared at him for a second. She pushed a curl out of his face and smiled.

"So here we have a commitmentphobe and an ex addict. What a pair." She grinned. He laughed and kissed her softly.

"It has a nice ring to it."
