They had arrived at the festival on the weekend after their celebration. No one had spoken to Matty about where he was that night; even when he came back the next morning and sat in the shower for three hours.

He didn't say anything to anyone for a while, just sat in his room and wrote songs. He wrote a shit ton of songs. He emerged the morning they went to the festival on the Friday and travelled in silence with everyone. When they arrived at the festival, he went off somewhere and came back three hours later about half an hour before their set time.

Kat was stood backstage, smoking. Nothing could stop her from enjoying the boys' set, not even Ratty Healy. George was jumping up and down next to her in preparation, he looked nervous.

"You'll be amazing." She rubbed his arm with her free hand, he looked around as if he were looking for someone.

"It's not me I'm nervous for." He mumbled but Kat didn't understand. George looked into her eyes and it clicked. He knew something she didn't. Her face dropped as did her cigarette, she stomped on it and turned around to walk to find him.

"Matthew!" She screamed at the fool trying to put his jacket on. He spun around and she almost fell over with shock. He couldn't believe she was talking to him. His eyes were glossy and red but also black, there was eyeliner all over him.

Why hadn't it clicked earlier that he might be using again? He had disappeared that night, he disappeared as soon as they arrived at the festival. She should've known.

"Kitty!" He squealed, doing a little dance. Her face dropped.

"What have you done?" She gasped, the words 'what a shame' were written on his torso in black ink. She placed her hand on the words. He looked down and let out a giggle.

"They're my lyrics." He laughed, she just looked at him.

"You're so fucked. You better give those guys out there a good show" she grabbed his face, his tongue slithered out and tried to reach her hand as a low laugh came out of him. "fucks sake." She whispered.

"Kitty, you're my favourite person in the world." He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly. "I'm so happy you're here with me" he kissed her head violently multiple times. She pulled away from him.

"Don't pass out before Ed Sheeran, we're all going to watch him together." She points at him as she walks away.

"Anything for you, Kit." He yelled, she shook her head disapprovingly. She made her way back to George and fell into his side, he wrapped an arm around her.

"He's so gone." She groaned, "it's like as soon as Alice isn't around, he just forgets he's with her and becomes an drunk addict." She complained, George nodded and kissed her head.

"I've gotta go on, now. Wish me luck." He smiled, Kat grinned and kissed him on the cheek.

"You'll be amazing." She patted him on the back.

"My turn." Adam jogged towards her, his guitar in hand. Kat giggled and kissed his cheek. Ross queued behind him and she kissed him as well.

"You're all gonna be brilliant!" She yelled as they ran on, Matty was no where to be seen.

"Kitty Kat!" His voice boomed, he had one arm in his jacket as he stumbled towards her. "My turn!" He yelled before placing a sloppy kiss on her lips, she pushed him off her.

"Get on stage!" She yelled, pushing him away. He winked and ran onto stage.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome your favourite band. It's the 1975!" He screamed. Kat smiled slightly as she watched the crowd in front go wild. Tammy joined her on the side of the stage.

Matty was dancing like a madman, Kat couldn't help but laugh whenever he made eye contact. She hated this bipolar affect he had on her. Tammy and her danced along but there was always that underlying feeling that Matty probably had no idea where he was or what he was doing and that terrified her.

A few songs in, Matty started to rub his face a lot and Kat knew he was turning from happy high to irritated high. There was a lull in the set while the guys tuned their guitars, Matty ran straight to Kat.

"I don't feel too good." He slurred, Kat shook her head and pushed him away.

"Too bad. You're performing." She pointed out, his eyes looked desperate but she wasn't about to bail him out when all these people were expecting something from him.

"Wow, tough love." Tammy laughed as Matty jogged back out onto the stage.

"He's a fucking disgrace." Kat laughed. Tammy could hear the underlying anger in her voice and knew her patience was growing thin.

"Do you know where he went the other night?" She asked, Kat shrugged.

"I couldn't give a shit. Probably fucked some girl who resembled Alice, thinking it was her." She hissed dramatically. Tammy shook her head.

"Maybe you should ask him. He looked in a bad way when he came back the next morning." There was hint of pity in her voice which Kat had no time for anymore.

The boys finished their set and jumped off stage with pep. George scooped up Kat in a sweaty hug, making her cry out in happiness. Matty propped himself up on one of the boxes and tried to make everything stop spinning.

"Right, let's get out there for Ed." Ross yelled, throwing his arm around Tammy and everyone agreed. Kat let them go on while she watched Matty; he didn't look right whatsoever and no matter how angry she was she couldn't watch someone she loved so dearly break down in front of her.

"Come on Matty." She held out her hand for him. He stared at her and tears formed in his eyes. She was holding out a branch for him and he was going to snap it whether he meant it or not.

"Ed?" He asked, she nodded so he hopped off the box and took her hand.

"You played a good set. They all loved you." She complimented, his mouth smiled but his eyes were dead. His heart was already broken.

They didn't say anything else, they just held hands the whole way over to the main stage. Matty was happy that he could touch her again without her running away; even if it was just a simple holding of hands.

The crowd was already huge for Ed, George led the way and pushed his way into the middle and as close to the front as they could get. Matty gripped Kat's hand like a scared child as she guided him through the crowd. George and Ross cleared a huge space for them and they asserted their ground in the middle of the crowd.

As Ed came on, Kat wiped Matty's eyes and gave him a smile he couldn't fault. The crowd went absolutely nuts as he started playing his guitar. The crowd started to jump and sing along and Matty's spirits were lifted as he watched Kat sing from her heart.

Ed started to play 'Lego House' and the crowd quietened to allow him to sing it properly. Kat watched the ginger boy carefully, allowing the hand that she knew was Matty's to snake around her waist and pull her close. She also allowed him to rest his head on her shoulder as he sang the words quietly in her ear.

"I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind.
I'll do it all for you in time.
And out of all these things I've done,
I think I love you better now." He sang, Kat's eyes welled up as she felt his head leave her shoulder.

She turned around, looking around for her friends but they had distanced from them and were lost in the music. Matty stared down at her with sadness in his eyes.

"I miss you Kit." He said loud enough for her to hear. She nodded to indicate she had missed him to. He gave her a weak smile.

"I just don't know you anymore." She whispered, his face dropped and he swallowed hard. He couldn't help himself, the song was too beautiful and so was she. He didn't care that she had just shattered his heart. He leant down and kissed her hard, she reciprocated immediately.

Kat hadn't kissed him properly in such a long time, it was like coming up for air. She wrapped her arms around his neck and felt him smile genuinely against her lips. It was when she tasted the alcohol that she stopped.

"No. You're drunk. You don't know what you're doing." She mumbled, wiping her mouth. He stared down in confusion. She turned around and pretended as if nothing had ever happened. Matty had really fucked it this time.
