Kat hated the Winter Wonderland fair, she hated the whole idea of it and right now she hated Alice for suggesting it. Alice had only suggested it since they all hadn't seen each other in about a week since Christmas. Matty hated it too but didn't let on nearly as much, he figured as long as Alice was happy he could get on with it.

Kat hadn't wanted to come, she even tried to get invited to Adam's family thing that he used as an excuse not to come but he said it would 'look too suspicious' whatever that meant.

Alice was like a kid in a sweet shop, wanting to try everything there was to offer. Matty knew he couldn't reject everything so he, Ross and Tammy all went on the shitty rides while George looked after Kat.

"If there's a fucking clown I'll scream." George had his arm around her as they walked through the stalls. He let out a laugh.

"It's not the circus, you muppet." He enjoyed Kat's company and could see why Matty was initially attracted to her. She's sexy in the kick you in the balls kind of way. "Hey, did your sister mention anything about coming?" He wondered, Kat furrowed her eyebrows.

"No, she's gone out with her friend from school tonight. Why?" She asked, he shrugged.

"She mentioned yesterday that she might come." He brushed it off but Kat pressed further.

"That's weird. Why would she want to spend time with us?" She asked, he shrugged again.

"How am I supposed to know?" His hostility was noted in her mind but she let it slide.

"What ride did they go on again? They must've finished by now?" She moved the subject, George shrugged but then spotted something he knew she would hate.

"Let me win you something Kit." She didn't like when people, other than Matty, called her Kit but she allowed this this one time.

"It better be good Daniels." She threatened which made him chuckle.

She hated fair games but she had to admit, it was funny watching George try to hit the pins with the way too light balls. Every time he lost, it was like a little bit of his man pride was taken away which made him even more adamant. Eventually, he got angry and threw it so hard he knocked them all down. Kat burst out laughing as the guy revealed that the prize was a tiny penguin.

"For you, my dear." He offered it to her formally, she rolled her eyes and looked at the poorly stuffed penguin.

"You've just spent twenty quid on this, I'm honoured." She teased, he nudged her playfully which only made her giggle more.

"There they are!" An American accent that could only be Alice's called from behind. They both turned around to see the group walking towards them. Matty's eyes were noticeably squinted.

"What are you doing?" He asked, rather harshly.

"George just won me a penguin, looks like fairs do have an upside." Kat grinned, Matty looked back and forth between them and didn't smile.

"Yeah, if the upside is spending twenty quid on a piece of shit penguin." George laughed with Kat. The others found it reasonably amusing but Matty just stayed quiet.

"Well, we wanna go on the Ferris wheel. You coming?" He asked, Kat shrugged.

"Yeah, I love a good Ferris wheel." She admitted, she had a weakness for them.

When they got to the Ferris wheel, a realisation hit Matty that George and Kat were going to sit together on the seat. For some reason, that scared him a lot.

"Hey, babe. Do you mind for this ride if I go with Kat? I just need to have a quick chat with her." He asked Alice who was on her phone in the queue. Alice looked confused as she turned her head to Kat who was chatting with George and Tammy.

"I think she'd rather go with George if you know what I mean." She laughed, Matty didn't reciprocate.

"That's what I want to talk to her about." He said seriously. Before Alice could reply the man yelled for the next two, it was him and Alice. "Kat, you're with me." Matty yelled, Kat turned to him in confusion.

"But I thought-"

"You thought wrong, come on." He dragged her into the seat with him before she could protest any further.

"What the fuck, Healy? That's so rude to Alice." She burst as they started going up.

"Alice doesn't mind, I'll go with her on the next one." He shrugged, he looked down at their friends who were watching them go with confused faces. Alice looked a little bit hurt.

"Why did you want me on here with you?" She asked, he just stared at her with no emotion on his face.

"Do you like George?" He asked bluntly, Kat burst out laughing but he didn't find it as funny. Her face dropped when she realised he was being serious.

"What the fuck? No." She answered. "Why would you think that?"

"You spend a lot of time with him, you two are close now." He pointed out, she raised her eyebrows.

"So?"

"So, Why?" He almost sounded hurt, she loosened up a bit and tried not to get angry. He seemed to have some abandonment issues.

"Aw, Matty. Do you miss hanging out with me?" She teased, he didn't budge so she took a different approach. "Are you jealous?" She asked, he suddenly became very defensive.

"Why the fuck would I be jealous?" He spat, she shook her head.

"That's what I'm thinking!" She retaliated. He looked away for a moment and took a deep breath.

"I just want to warn you how it'll look" She hadn't expected that to come out. How would it look if she started dating George? She didn't think it would be that weird but then again, she didn't want to date George.

"What on earth are you talking about?" She asked, he became awkward and shifted in the seat which made the whole thing rock.

"You know...because me and you have fucked and if you started fucking George...it would look kinda bad on you, you know?" Kat's blood started to boil, she couldn't believe he had just said that.

"Are you suggesting that I'm going to whore myself out to George?" She shrieked, his eyes widened and he looked embarrassed. She wanted to slap him so badly.

"No! I'm just saying if you start sleeping with him then some people might think you are being a bit...whorish as you've slept with his best mate." He said nonchalantly as if he was doing her a favour.

"The only people who know about that are me, you, Tammy and your band so I don't know who all these 'people' are that are gonna be calling me a slut but it seems as though you're insinuating that you or your friends already think that?" She burst, his eyes widened.

"No-" the ride stopped and the guy pulled the bar off them.

"You can fuck right off Matthew" she yelled as she got off the ride. George and Alice were stood in the queue, having waited for them, with wide eyes.

"Kat," George reached out for her but she swatted him away.

"Better not touch me George, don't want people thinking I'm a slut." She spat, not breaking eye contact with Matty.

"Kitty, keep your voice down." Matty said through gritted teeth, thinking more about what Alice was hearing rather than how Kat was feeling.

"Fuck you." She said quieter before storming off. George couldn't help himself, he went after her.

"Matty, what was that?" Alice asked, pulling him out of the way of prying eyes. He rubbed his face, wanting one thing that he shouldn't want or have in times of stress.

"She just took some of the stuff I said out of context. I fucked up real bad." He was losing his two best friends, one because of him and the other because of her. He rubbed his eyes harder and kicked the floor.

"Matty" Alice tried to get him to look at her but he refused.

"Just leave me alone, Al. I just need...something. I'm sorry, I'll call you later." He pushed her away and made his way to the exit, leaving Alice confused and hurt.

George ran after Kat, calling out desperately for her but she kept running away. However, his long legs soon reached her as she slowed down towards the car park.

"Kat." He said quietly, reaching for her arm. She flinched, turning her face so he could see the tears streaming down her face.

"George." She sobbed, her anger had washed away, beaching her sadness. He wrapped his big arms around her and let her cry into him.

"He called me a slut. He thinks I'm a whore." She cried, George's eyes widened as she shook against him.

"What? Why would he say that?" He wondered out loud, beyond shocked that Matty would say something like that.

George, more than anyone, more than Matty, knew that Kat was insecure about being called a slut; especially around the group as they all knew about her and Matty. She didn't want to sleep with George but the thought that Matty; someone who she trusted, would call her a whore because he thought she did, hurt.

"Because he thinks we're a thing and I guess he got pissed or something I don't know." She rambled as she cried. George squeezed her to try and bring her closer but it was physically impossible.

"Dickhead. He should know better." He tugged, she let him hold her for a little while longer before a familiar voice interrupted.

"Kat? George?" Angie asked from what sounded like far away. Kat wiped her eyes and looked in the direction of her concerned sister.

"Angie? What are you doing here?" She asked, Angie jogged closer to them and held Kat's face in her hands.

"Are you okay? Why are you crying?" She worried, Kat let her wipe her tears and pull her into a hug. "Matty?" She mouthed to George, he nodded and she closed her eyes in disappointment. "Come on let's go home." She led her away.

"Are you coming George?" Kat turned back to him, George stumbled on her words for a little bit before nodding and following them.
