Aiden

"I'm not forcing you, it's a suggestion Aiden." My father said, buttoning his blazer, as he walked infrtont of me towards our table.

I sighed, running a hand through my hair.

"How long will it take?" I asked.

"Not too long," he replied.

We reached the table and I saw my sister, Emma and Mike, her boyfriend,  who was now shaking my father's hand.

I went over and hugged Emma, planted a soft kiss on her cheek, and smiled at leah, her daughter, who was fast asleep in her mother's arms.

"Hey," she smiled, hugging me back, after which we made our way to the table, and waited for Rachel, my father's new girlfriend to show up.

"So, Mike, how's work been," dad said, as the waiter filled our glasses with water.

"Good, good. Robert Klien got fired as managing partner, so the company is currently looking for a replacement," he said.

Moments later, dad's girlfriend walked to our table. As much as I didn't want to, I stood up and greeted her, as did everyone else.

"Aiden, it's so good to see you again," she said, rubbing my arm. I gave her a tight lipped smiled and nodded, "you too," I mumbled.

We sat and began making small talk, which I hated more than anything.

I'd met her once or twice before, but not formally. She was quiet young, which I found weird because my dad was in his late 40s, but I mean, I guess its unfair of me to judge his for-

"Aiden, what would you like to have?" Dad asked, snapping me away from my thoughts.

"Uh...just a Greek salad, I'm not very hungry," I said,

"Dad, I heard that you got the deal with Malcom and Gabe's," Emma said,

"Yeah, yeah, we closed it two days ago,"

"Congrats," Emma and Mike said in synchronization.

"Honey, you didn't tell me, I'm so proud of you," Rachel said, taking my father's arm.

He turned to the side and kissed her, and I looked away, rolling my eyes, and leaning back on my chair. Emma glaced at me from the side, and playfully smiled,
"You're such a child," she mouthed.

I know it seems unfair that I don't like her very much even though I don't know her, but just the fact that someone likes my father is enough reason to not like them.

She also did seem very fake, and I can't imagine why she'd want to be with him, other than the fact that he has money.

The rest of lunch just went by with small talk, most of which I didn't pay attention to, and a few glaces at Emma everytime Rachel said something questionable, which was a surprisingly high number.

After one dreadfully boring hour of hearing My father and his girlfriend talk about his company, I finally said goodbye to them, and made my way to my car.

I parked it quiet far, because at the time I felt like walking, but right now, I just wanted to go back home.

I was going to go home and take a few things with me before heading back to campus.

I was walking to my car, when my phone began ringing and I picked it up, it was Scarlett.

"Hello?"

"Hey,"

"What's up?"

"Are you done with lunch with your dad?"

"Yeah just now,"

"How was it,"

"Well...it was lunch with my dad," I scoffed, and she let out a small laugh.

"Did Jones tell you where she is? I saw her car leave campus, but didn't really get to talk to her. I've been trying to reach her, but she isn't answering,"

"She said she's spending the weekend at home," I said, pulling my keys out of my pocket.

"Oh okay. We were going to go for a movie, you want to come?" Scarlett asked.

"Uh...Yeah sure, I'll be there in 20-

I suddenly jumped as I heard a loud crash from the street beside me. Commotion erupted around me, as I turned around, trying to figure out what had happened.

In the distance, I saw that a car had crashed into a truck. The truck was in the wrong lane, and the driver of the truck, stumbled out, injured.

If he was injured, I could only imagine how bad the car must've been damaged.

I instinctively ran over to the sight of accident, seeing a crowd of people standing there.

"I called 911," someone yelled.

I walked closer to the car, and peered in, as I felt a pit in my stomach, and panic flooded my entire body.

It was Hayley.

She layed there motionless, with a couple bruises on her face, and blood pouring down the side of her head.

My heart began to pound painfully in my chest and my eyes began stinging.
My head felt heavy, and I slowly fell into a daze...it was like it was happening all over again.....

"What the hell, why the fuck were you driving in the wrong fucking lane?!" I spat, seeing the truck driver standing on the side, resting on his knees.

He looked like quiet the mess himself, but not a bone in my body felt bad for him, instead, I felt an insane amount of anger towards the man who had just met with an accident.
I fisted my palms and clenched my jaw, but before I could do anything, an ambulance pulled over, snapping me back into reality.

I gulped, panting. I was really going to punch the guy, I was so close to lose control again, and that only made me feel worse.

"Aiden what the fuck happened?" I heard through the phone.

"It's Hayley....her car crashed," I said shakily, and hung up, seeing them pull Hayley's broken body out of her car, and into the ambulance as a loud siren went off.
