Chapter 14

26 YEARS EARLIER.

She was a naive 16 year old girl from a defunct home, a product of rape. Her mum saw her as an encumbrance and never missed an opportunity to tell her.

Naturally she fell for the first guy that came along. To her he was the sun, the world revolved in his eyes and his lips, but most especially, in his hands. When they touched her, she saw stars, literally. She would cut off her arm if he asked her to. She loved him that much.

But Lucky was a flatterer, a manipulator and a dead beat.
He had a very dark habit; he was a cocaine addict. In fact he was on a self destruct mission, ready to stain anything and everyone he came across.

Lily was everything he hated. She reminded him of a time when he was unstained. She was pure and innocent. She was untarnished. She was untouched.

He told her he loved her, that she was the most beautiful woman he had ever set his eyes on. She never allowed him go beyond first base though, a few stolen kisses only, but he wanted more. So much more.

He wanted all of her and he planned on going all the way, but he knew she wouldn't agree so easily. He had to soften her up.

He introduced her to the drug on a dark starless night in an uncompleted building; their usual meeting place. He coaxed her to sniff it. Just put your nose close to it and inhale deeply. It's like inhaling the aroma of sweet jollof rice, except with more force. He had said.

He said she would be in space -  on cloud 9, watching the galaxies glide by. She wanted to please him today, because he had become short tempered with her of late, and so she snorted two straight lines of superior coke into her nostrils. It went straight to her brain and she became unconscious shortly after.

Oblivious of what was going on around her, Lucky got to work taking advantage of the situation. He took away her innocence on that starless night. She didn't even know what hit her, until the following morning. She woke up feeling cold and utterly bereft.

She was still in the uncompleted building but Lucky was nowhere to be seen. She felt strange in between her lady parts. Touching herself, her hand came away red and sticky.

Hooked on cocaine and pregnant, she was brain dead when they eventually cut the twins out of her. She died on her seventeenth birthday.

An era of a life not well spent.

Her mother wanted nothing to do with the evil her daughter had spun, so she put them in an orphanage and abandoned them there except to occasionally drop some money for them to be taken care of.

Their grandmother died when the poor tots were four years old. Now they were left without a penny to their name or so it seemed, until a year later, a letter arrived at the orphanage, stating the twins were heirs to their late uncle's wealth and property.

He was a multi - millionaire with properties in different states of the country. The letter stipulated that the twins should be sent to the best private schools.

Details of the disbursement of monthly remittance of finance were included in the letter. The twins would have a guardian at the orphanage until they were eighteen years and of legal age to take over their inheritance.

They grew up and having no one else, depended on each other. They were put in a prestigious private school where the rich sent their children to.

The female twin was walking in the hallway of school on her first day when she saw a boy pulling the braids of a girl. She was crying and cringing away from him.

As a result of her upbringing at the orphanage, or lack of it, she knew how to handle bullies.

And so she walked up to the boy and gave him a stinging slap. Not yet six years of age and short in height, she had stood up to a boy of seven years.

Unable to believe his eyes, the boy had touched his face, busted into tears and run off. She went up to the girl he had been bullying, cleaned her tears and enveloped her in a hug. They had become fast friends thereafter and even attended the same university.

At the age of eighteen, she got her inheritance and became stinkingly rich as a result of the investments she made with the help of her uncle's lawyer.

No one knew she was rich, not even her best friend.

Her twin was not that astute. Instead, he squandered his money on luxury cars, women and drugs. She watched helplessly as he went in and out of rehabilitation centres.

He went deeper into drugs, dabbling between heroine and cocaine. Not being able to handle it anymore, he went into cardiac arrest at the tender age of nineteen.

Not yet twenty and a multi millionaire, she was heartbroken and all alone in the whole world. She vowed to become exceedingly rich and in her quest, she became ruthless.

She acquired property upon property and if anyone stood in her way, she got rid of them without getting her fingers stained. Even men were not exempt from her machinations. If she liked a man, she got him.

She eventually met a man who matched her ruthlessness, and she fell hard for him. Unfortunately, he was only interested in her money. She even found out he had dated her best friend. She was mortified, and there and then, she began nursing hatred in her heart for her best friend.

Her relationships with men never lasted though, because they weren't man enough for her. So at age twenty, she had already gone through different types of men due to her avaricious greed and never being able to make up her mind.

She finally saw the man she wanted, one day when she and her friends were having a tete a tete. He was a fine specimen of a man. Tall and dark with smouldering eyes. Broad chested too, and he was so handsome. In fact he was the most handsome man she had ever set eyes on.

He had walked up to them, asking if he could sit down, eyes on her best friend instead of her. She wished the ground would open and swallow her whole. She felt smouldering hatred for her and there and then, she turned into her worst enemy.

She tried several ways to make him notice her. She flirted with him like her life depended on it, but he had eyes only for her best friend, turned worst enemy. She went as far as finding out where he stayed. She personally did it herself for this was a cause she was passionate about.

One day the young man in question got back home, exhausted after a series of football matches with his friends. His intent was to take a shower, slip into bed and wait for sleep to take him. He got out from the shower, removed his towel and slipped into bed, his bedroom lights still off.

His hand came in contact with something, or a part of someone, more like. He felt it, it was soft.

Wait! Is that a boob?

He jumped up, put the lights on and gasped when he saw her. She was naked and grinning like a Cheshire cat in his bed.

What on earth?

His first thought towards her was pity. He had excused himself and told her to dress up. He sat her down and gave her a thirty minutes lecture on how she needed to love and respect herself. She had cried as she left his apartment that day. She had never felt so humiliated in her entire life.

Fortunately, he had never told her best friend, turned worst enemy.

Imagine her horror when some years later they got married; her best friend turned worst enemy and the love of her life. She was going to disgrace her, it was just a matter of time.

PRESENT DAY

Her long red nails caught a glint of light from the ray of sun peeping in through the windows.

She inspected them as she waited impatiently for the man she came to meet.

She looked at her rolex wrist watch for probably the fifth time.

She hated being kept waiting.

She put up a hand and called the attention of the waiter idling on the side. He immediately snapped to attention and came to her.

"What can I do for you, ma'am?"
He enquired respectfully. He always gave her quick service. That was the key to a good tip, and she never failed.

"Cheque, please!" She responded, with a flick of her wrist.

Then she saw him from the corner of her eye as she rummaged though her bag for her phone.

"Hi!" He announced in his deep voice.

A sexual thrill ran through her as she heard his voice. She looked up into hooded green eyes. He smiled and they turned into slits.

"No one, not even you, makes me wait." She allowed the annoyance to show on her face.

"I missed you too, sugar." He smiled, showing perfect white teeth. He kissed her on the cheek and sat down opposite her.

"What took you so long?" She was determined to keep up with her upset.

"I see you couldn't wait to see me." He smiled widely now. Leaning closer to her, she smelt his cologne. It was having it's usual effect on her. She couldn't wait to be behind closed doors with him.

Sensing her need, his smile disappeared and his voice lowered. "I've already booked the room at our usual place."

She got up immediately, and hurriedly threw some bills on the table in her haste to leave the restaurant. He chuckled at this and dipped his head to check out her bum as she walked in front of him, his hand on the small of her back.

A/N: Hmm! Has anyone guessed who the man and woman are?
