Romeo Morgan's POV

*Morgan's Mansion*

"Seems like the rain isn't going to back down any sooner," I thought to myself as I looked out of the window by the walkway. The stormy weather of relentless heavy downpour coupled with strong winds was sending branches of trees surrounding the mansion tapping onto the structure. Gloominess seemed to pour into every inch of the mansion despite the lights that were lit up down the walkway.

As I made my way back to my room, I noticed the door to my father's study room was left opened ajar. It was unusual of him to leave it open, after all, he has always been a man of cautious. Besides, the draft of chilly cold wind setting into the mansion would probably do no good to his health, his detrimental health accumulated from his long years of toll from building the Morgan's enterprise.

I knocked on the door gently and called out as I pushed the door slightly open, "Father?"

My father, Theodore Morgan, seemed to have been woken up abruptly by me as he shot his fatigue eyes opened and cleared his throat, "Ah... you're here, come on in."

I tried to switch on the lights as the room was dark, but it was still to no avail.

"Leave it, Barker said the lights got killed from the lightning strike earlier on," My father said.Even though it was dark, but it was still enough for me to figure out what was in the room so I approached him with cautious as I tread my way towards him.

"Yes, son, come over here," He cued me over to the couch and then he sat down across to me as he broke into a wide smile, "I heard about the new record high profits that you have achieved for Morgan this term, well done son, I'm really proud of you."

Proud of me?

I was taken aback for a moment because he has never ever praised me, not in my lifetime at least. But the sudden drop of dew to the prolonged "drought situation" definitely came as a pleasant surprise to me. I reclaimed my composure from the jolt of long due affirmation, "Thank you, Father, I was just doing my job."

It was always a relief for me to see him freed from the heaviness of his worrisome brood, even if it was for a moment.

"Wait a minute, Rogan, is that you?" My father suddenly jolts up from his seat a little as he squinted his eyes hard.

Rogan? Is this what all this is about? Was that praise for Rogan and not for me?

The sudden realisation of my father mistaking me for Rogan was a slap in my face.

A wave of frustration claimed over me as I swallowed a lump down my throat and decided to take on Rogan's role for once in my life. "Yes, that's me." I deepened my voice as I reclined into the darkness to conceal me.

Then he snickered, "Age must be catching up on me, can't really tell both of you apart lately, especially with this weakened sight of mine. But regardless of how muddled headed, I can get at this age, you two are still different."

"Is that so?" I couldn't help comment as I felt that insult set in.

"Yes, of course," He replied without hesitation, then he continued, "Morgan is in your good hands, and it's time... It's time to do what's right for you and the company."

He stood up and had his back against me as he held his gaze out of the window and continued, "I've spoken to my attorney, from next week onwards, you will officially be the sole heir of the Morgan's enterprise, the one and only owner to this legacy that I have passed on to you.""One and only?" I baffled upon the abrupt news before I blinked hard and continued, "I don't get it... what... what about Romeo?"

He scoffed with disdain upon the hearing of my name, "Romeo? I've made arrangement to send him off to our branch office in Dublin, probably for good."

"You must have got it wrong..." I snickered as I shook my head in disbelief, before I continued, "We all know our Dublin's office is nothing much other than just administrative purpose.""Precisely, I plant him there so that nobody can try to shake your spot as the sole ruler to this company," He snapped.

"Why would you think that he will threaten my spot? He has been doing his best to support the running of the Morgan's enterprise, don't you agree?" I exasperated, feeling ridiculed.

"That's exactly why you should be wary of him. His ambition is not something that you should turn your eyes away from. Even though I have retired, but I know, I know what's brewing. It had already come to my attention that several old scheming members in the board of directors are in favour of Romeo leading the company," He said sternly. "Of course they would want him, he makes a good puppet for them to pull their strings on," He scoffed and then his tone mellowed, "Son, I have nothing but only the best intention for you."

A good puppet? Is that what you only see in me?

As I pushed into the lurking waters of danger with my father to find out the truth to this biased view, every word of his daggered and ripped me apart.

Agonised, I held back the fiery tears welling up in my eyes with my fully clenched fists and jaw as I rebutted him in sarcasm, "But...isn't Romeo your son too?"

"That blue-eyed bastard, he is no son of mine." Along with this line that he hurled, was a flash of lightning that flickered upon my wide-opened eyes of utter shock followed by a deafening strike of thunder.

I could not process the absurd line that just came out from his mouth. My mind turned blank as I broke into a heightened sense of anxiety, almost losing my balance on the ground from the sudden wrenching.

"What... What do you mean?" I was near to losing my mind yet I had to consciously continued to put up my act as Rogan.

"That's not something you need to dwell upon, it's something for him to find out and stomach it when he is at Dublin. You, my son, just need to know that as your father, I will ensure that your path to succeeding my legacy is a smooth-sailing one," He concluded.

"Before I forgot, I was told a Leclaire's girl got into our company. The Leclaire would be a good matrimony choice, it's a matter of time we put the Leclaire to good use. Besides, I heard she is quite capable, let's see what we could do as a piece of chess..." He smirked.

"Rogan?" I heard him shouted out, but I have already made my stride out of his room, out of his sight.

That evil snake... how dare they run their designs on Claire, how dare they!

Rogan Morgan's POV

I quickly hid and held my breath by the corner of the walkway the moment I heard Romeo storming out of the room. Panting uncontrollably the moment I resumed breathing. What the hell did I just overhear?

*The next day*

Romeo Morgan's POV

I couldn't catch a single bit of sleep at all last night. The word "bastard" ran through my mind countless times.

Why?! Why would the man that I have treated with utmost respect do this to me?! How did a father figure just suddenly disappear from my life? What wrong have I done to deserve this...?!
My whole world came collapsing the night before. I have tons of questions to be answered, for I know I will never be at ease if I don't get to the end of it.

I took in a deep breath to compose myself before walking up towards Rogan's office, "I would like to apply for an urgent leave, I thought getting clearance from you would be the fastest.""Why?" He asked with much concern.

"You know I would appreciate it if you could just drop your signature because I have a flight to catch," I replied, ignoring his concern.

"Alright..." He sighed as he signed my application. I strode out of his sight as soon as I got the approval.

Dublin, there better be answers.
