Tristan

That's it. I was going to do it. My brain was programmed to not hide anything from Damien since childhood and this whole secret thing was tiring it out. So when Damien held my hand and asked me what was wrong, I gave up. I was going to tell him and if he chose to be mad at me then so be it.

His blue eyes were looking at me expectantly, waiting for me to speak. My fingers were still intertwined with his warm strong ones. I looked down at our hands and took a deep breath.

"I saw something," I started. My voice was low and soft. I definitely did not want anyone else overhearing this. "I saw something that was not meant for me to see. And that changed a lot of things for me. So now I am very confused and very scared without the least idea about what I should do."

He nodded. "Okay I think I can help you out. What exactly did you see? Something related to work?"

I shook my head.

"So something related to a friend then?"

I hesitated. "Kind of."

"And why is it a problem? If you saw something weird then can't you just discuss it with your friend?"

I almost laughed. What a naive thing for him to say. "It's not that simple Damien. The person is really close to me and I don't this thing to destroy everything between us. "

I stopped. Damien was looking a bit surprised at my outburst. And a bit annoyed too.

"Who is this person exactly? I thought I was the only person who you were close to," he said with a sad expression.

I almost laughed. It was such a childish thing for him to say but so Damien. He was looking at me expectantly for an answer, unaware that he had just answered his own question.

I stared back at him blankly waiting for him to figure it out. I watched as a tiny drop of realisation floated in his ocean blue eyes. The drop became a speck, the speck became a blot and slowly it filled the entirety of those blue orbs. His eyes widened a fraction of an inch and for a very very brief moment fear flashed through them.

"Its about me?," he whispered. "You saw something related to me?"

I could only nod.  My heart was beating dangerously fast and my palms were sweating like crazy. The only thing that gave me a bit of confidence was that Damien looked nervous too. His jaw was clenched and his body was stiff.

His behaviour was a clear indication that he was a man of many secrets. The usually confident Damien was nowhere to be seen. This man before me was as nervous as a mouse. It was unsettling to see like this and I almost regretted bringing this whole thing up. But it needed to be done.

"Yes," I answered with as firm a voice I could manage. Without beating around the bush I decided to get it over with at once. "I saw you at the club with the twink. "

The blood drained from his face. His wide eyes stared at me in absolute shock. His mouth hung open a bit and his hands were clenched into tight fists. Abruptly he got up.

"I will see you later Tristan," he said and turned and walked out. I let him. He was in no condition to defend himself now and I wasn't going to upset him anymore than I already had.

So I sat and stared at the retreating back of my best friend. It felt good to have finally gotten that heavy secret off my chest but at the same time I was terrified. Terrified that I might have just lost the one good thing in my life.
I could only hope that it wasn't the case.
