'Did you lose what won't return?
Did you love but never learn?
The fire's out but still it burns
And no one cares, there's no one there.'

Hermione woke up in an enormous bed, sleepily she searched her way through the mansion. She had noticed they weren't in the apartment anymore, clearly Niklaus preferred it a bit more luxurious. She walked down the stairs, seeing Niklaus in the kitchen. She hold back a giggle, the big bad hybrid making breakfast. Who would have thought? Silently she settled herself at the dining table.

'Good morning love,' she heard him saying.
He sat across the table, 'Did you sleep well?'
Hermione just stared and began giggling, not being able to stop.

Niklaus raised his eyebrow, so Hermione answered: 'Oh come on, its not every day you see the big bad hybrid making breakfast and asking if I have slept well. Honestly, I would have expected you to demand me to eat and then leave to go on a killing spree.'

Niklaus laughed and put a finger against his lips, 'Don't tell anyone love.' As he began eating.

Hermione giggled again, but quickly began eating. The food was delicious, she had to admit.

And out of the blue Niklaus asked: 'Why don't you hate me?'

Hermione stopped eating, 'Do you want me to?'

'No.'

Hermione put down her fork and paused, 'You haven't given me a reason to.'

Klaus raised one of his eyebrows and pointed with his fork, 'I tried to kill your sister and aunt.'

Hermione looked at him, 'I know. But you didn't, look Niklaus. I've met the worst of the worst, you do not come anywhere near these people. Besides if you keep making me food this good, I'll have to forgive anything you do.'

Niklaus smiled, 'Anything?'

Hermione quickly regretted her words, 'That was figuratively speaking, if you'd actually kill one of the people I care about I wouldn't forgive you.'

Niklaus nodded, 'Of course, now I get why you're a Gilbert.'

Hermione smiled, 'Well, I am proud to be one.'

'So about that killing spree...' Niklaus began.

Hermione almost spit out her drink, 'What!?'

And Niklaus bursted out laughing, Hermione glared at him. But she couldn't hold in her laughter for long and began laughing almost immediately.

Shortly after Hermione insisted on doing the dishes, as Niklaus was the one who cooked, but Niklaus ordered one of the compelled humans to do it. So she found herself sitting in the couch reading one of her favourite muggle books. Niklaus had disappeared, she put her book down. Which was a hard task on itself, but something told her to explore the house.

She wandered through the hallways as she opened the door of the room next to Niklaus' bedroom. It was filled with paintings and drawings, the further she went to the back there were more and more paintings behind a cloak. In the back one, standing like a masterpiece. Slowly and carefully she took the cloak off, revealing a beautiful painting of her.

She gasped.

'Who said that you could- Oh...' Niklaus stopped as he saw she had found a painting of her.

'It is beautiful...' Hermione trailed off.

'But why a painting of me?' Hermione asked, turning around.

Niklaus answered straight away, 'Because you are a beautiful girl.'

Hermione blushed a deep scarlet and Niklaus smiled cockily looking at her.

'You have lots of talent,' answered Hermione, trying to change the subject.

'They say practice makes perfect and I've had a thousand years to practice.'

Hermione nodded, she read about the original family. Terrible parents, she had thought it couldn't get worse then the Dursley's. Clearly it could.

'May I ask... Where is your family?' she asked him.

He turned around, 'Daggered.' And he walked away, closing the door behind him.

Hermione huffed, she didn't even get the time to judge him. She saw a few drawings he had made of her and slipped one under her shirt, she had the right. It was a drawing of her after all.

Jeremy walked down the stairs, Elena sat on the couch biting her nails.

'Something wrong?' he asked her, not really wanting to know the answer.

'Jeremy... I need to tell you some-' she began but was cut off by Jeremy.

'Yeah I know, Hermione is with Klaus. She called me, you could've told me earlier though. You don't need to hide it from me in order to protect me, it's been a week. And you just tried to sell it to me as: "She left us again, I am so sad."'

Elena gasped, 'She called you?'

Jeremy nodded, taking a sip of his fresh coffee. Elena looked at her hands, 'We need to find her.'

Jeremy raised his eyebrow, 'Wait what?'

Elena raised on her feet, filled with confidence: 'I am going to find her, I am going to save her!'

Jeremy spit out his coffee and began laughing, Elena glared at him. Jeremy just smiled: 'You know how that sounded right?'

'Like what?'

Jeremy smiled, 'Like you care about her.'

Elena frowned, 'Of course I care about her! She's my sister.'

'I know you do. I meant caring like you're madly in love with her and want to save the damsel in distress.'

Elena glared at Jeremy, but he continued. 'Princess Elena bravely fought the dragon, she beat him with ease. Even though he was an immortal hybrid who's practically impossible to kill. Then she climbed the tower with her bare hands and kissed the sleeping beauty awake, which is sexual assault if you ask me. They fell madly in love and lived a happily ever after.'

Elena's glares were throwing daggers and Damon walked in, stealing Jeremy's coffee: 'Who's going to live a happily ever after?'

Jeremy answered calmly, 'Elena and her damsel in distress.'

Now it was Damon's time to spit out his coffee and he smiled at Elena, 'Didn't know you fell for girls.'

Elena grumbled and grabbed her jacket, leaving the house. Jeremy stole his coffee back and went upstairs, leaving Damon behind.
