[PoV. 3p]

At night on a certain dirt road passing through the woods, a lone gray wolf named Oliver was driving his pickup home after one of the very unlucky days of his life.

Oliver decided to check the backup generator to make sure everything would work in case of power outages, which were quite frequent this month. And as it turned out, the generator wasn't working, and he, wanting to solve the problem before it bites him in the ass. Loaded the generator into the trunk and went to Ben, his friend in the Howling Valley, a guy who can fix almost anything.

After arriving at Ben's workshop and explaining to him what was going on, the two set about repairing the generator. After six hours of work, they found that many parts were damaged or nearly worn out, and the whole thing held together by faith and unholy amounts of duct tape, Ben concluded that it was beyond repair and recommended buying a new generator.

So Oliver got into his pickup truck, left the broken generator with Ben and drove to the nearest hardware store. However, there was a small problem, apparently the coyote who owned the hardware store and was the shopkeeper in this small town suffered a heart attack and the store was closed until further notice. It meant that Oliver had to go all the way to Bunnyburrow to get that damn generator.

Not wanting to return home with nothing, he proceeded, undeterred by his bad luck. Even when along the way he caught a flat tire and discovered he had forgotten the jack. However, thanks to a kind rabbit who lent him a jack, Oliver managed to reach his destination and get a generator, at seven p.m.

Later, when he was already on the road straight home, Oliver saw that there had been an accident between a gas truck and a pickup truck and the whole road was impassable, so he had to take a different route.

Which brings Oliver to the current situation, in which he is driving through the forest at night along a dirt road to his home.

"Well, it's just a great day, isn't it?" Mutters Oliver to himself under his breath. "Eh, this day can't get any worse, can it?"

To his misfortune, his luck had other plans.

When Oliver was a few kilometers from home, less than a ten-minute drive. A figure jumped from behind the tree line onto the road just ahead of him, Oliver immediately hit the brakes, but collided with it knocking it back more than a meter, though he managed to stop a few centimeters before running over it.

"Damn, of course I must have crashed into something, for fox's sake world, haven't I suffered enough for one fucking day!?" He cursed furiously and got out of the car to check what he had hit and if there was any damage to the pickup. As he reached the front of the pickup he noticed what he had crashed into. He didn't crash into something but someone.

A few inches in front of his car on the road in a puddle of black liquid lay a figure dressed in a terribly torn white shirt, black trench coat, and beige pants. Oliver had never encountered the species before, has almost no fur except for a small patch on the top of the head, no muzzle or tail from what he could tell and looked generally quite strange according to him.

But Oliver was not a person who would not help someone just because of appearance. His mother raised him to be a good man, not a cruel scumbag. Oliver quickly approached the victim to see if they were alive.

"H-hel-lo, are y-you alive?" He asked fearfully with a trembling voice, kneeling by the person he hit. Oliver did not receive an answer, which made him afraid and a scary thought came to his mind, a thought that shook him to the core. 'Oh my god, I killed someone'. He almost had a panic attack, but managed to calm down and keep his sanity. 'Calm down Oli, don't assume the worst, maybe they just unconscious.' he thought hopefully and leaned over the victim to see if he could hear them breathing.

He heard it, calm relatively shallow but steady breathing. This gave him relief and he released a breath he didn't realize he was holding. After discovering that he had not killed someone after all, Oliver moved on to what seemed to him the most logical course of action. He looked for injuries on an unconscious person.

Oliver noticed one, on the left side there was a deep wound from which poured a pitch-black liquid. He couldn't tell if it was blood or not, he wasn't a doctor but he was sure it wasn't good. Wasting no time, he went to get a first aid kit from his pickup truck, he got it without a problem.

Oliver's problems began when he tried to bandage the wound, he didn't know how to do it properly, and his shaking paws didn't help either. 'Man, who would have thought that banding is so difficult? I could really use the help of someone with experience....'  He said to himself in his mind. But after several failed attempts he managed to tie the bandage securely. Then he remembered a thing, thing he should have done much earlier.

'Idiot, you should have called for help, for fuck's sake!' Thought Oliver to himself, checking the pockets of his cargo pants for his phone. However, he could not find it, he checked in his car but it was not there either. 'Damn, I probably left it at home.'

Wondering what to do Oliver considered his options. He found the only option he could accept with a clear conscience.

On a certain dirt road passing through the woods at night, a lone wolf was driving home in his pickup truck with an unconscious person lying in the back seats.

Unseen to the wolf, a dozen pairs of eyes and one pair of empty eye sockets watched him from the edge of the forest as he drove away

On the veranda of a two-story house, leaning against the railing stood Oliver's wife, Nadia, a white she-wolf dressed in jeans and a long-sleeved flannel shirt. Waiting for her husband to return home. And with each passing minute without his return, she began to worry more and more

'Where the hell is he?'  She wondered anxiously. 'He left in the morning, he should be back by now, something must have happened, something very bad maybe he was part of that road accident? Maybe he is dying in some hospital? Maybe-'

"Still waiting for him?" The older woman's voice sounded behind her making her squealed and almost jump out of her fur. Nadia turned around to see who was talking. Behind her stood An elderly gray wolf female with small patches of slightly white fur, wearing a light purple checkered blouse and a blue flower patterned skirt with a glass of tea in paws. She was Emma Moonstone, Oliver's mother and her mother-in-law.

"Mom! you can't sneak up on people like that!" Shouted Nadia slightly annoyed, placing her paw on her chest, trying to calm her breathing and fast beating heart. "You almost gave me a heart attack!"

"I wasn't even trying to be scary, darling." Giggled friendly Emma , approaching her daughter-in-law and nudging her gently with an elbow.  "Besides, you have always been fearful like a little lamb. if not more so!"

Nadia crossed her arms and rolled her eyes at this comment looking offended, but inside she tried not to laugh. She has known Emma long enough to understand that she tends to offend only those she cares about, and the more vile the better.

But it wasn't long before Nadi's mind began to wander again toward Oliver's long absence and was looking at the road home with concern. However, her thought process was interrupted by the voice of Oliver's mother.

"You know what? I think Oli is fine" Said the older wolf female while sipping her tea and looking up at the sky.

"How can you know?" Asked Oliver's wife uncertainly.

"I don't know, I just have hope and faith that it will be so." Replied her mother-in-law smoothly.

"I never thought you were a religious person, mom." Said Nadia, genuinely surprised by these words coming from Emma.

"Because I'm not, it's just logical thinking, when the situation is terrible and you can't do anything, you are left with faith and hope that everything will be fine." Such words coming out of Emma's mouth made Nadia wonder if what she was drinking was definitely tea or if it was something stronger. "Now seriously, I lied I don't know anything, I can hear the engine of his pickup even from here. He should be here... now."

As if on cue, a gray pickup truck belonging to Oliver Moonstone drove onto the property. This calmed Nadi's fears for her beloved. She wondered how Emma could have heard it from so far away but that was a mystery for later. Now it was time to kill her husband from causing her so much stress. But the sight she saw stopped her murderous intent.

Olivier emerged from the pickup wearing cream-colored cargo pants and a red flannel shirt. His paws were covered with a black smear and fear was visible in his eyes.
