Third Person's POV

"I wouldn't do it if I were you."

The scientist paused, her syringe hovering inches over the Huntress strapped helplessly to the table. She turned abruptly towards her Ghost.

"Why not?" She demanded.

"I just did a scan on her." The AI replied. "Her immune system functions abnormally. The injection may trigger certain other effects that will cause any data gathered to be inaccurate."

The scientist groaned quietly and placed the syringe back on the table.

"Well, what can we do with you, then?" She taunted the girl strapped to the table. "This eliminates half a dozen experiments we could have finally completed."

Maya would have been relieved to know that her condition finally did something in her favor for once. But instead, she was sleepy, and was grateful that she was allowed to lie down and be quiet. Despite the conditions.

The scientist had her mind hanging on one particular experiment she had almost forgotten about. Well, she thought, not exactly an experiment. They already knew what the outcome would be. And the results would be definite.

It was settled then. She promptly returned to the table and removed the Huntress' gag.

"Tell me, do you know of the legends of Crota?"

"If I did, I doubt I would care all that much." She yawned the reply.

"I guess we'll see about that."

"What were you even expecting to find here?" Alpha exclaimed in frustration. "We destroyed everything, remember?!"

"There must be some sort of clue as to where they went." Talos grumbled, picking patiently through the remains of the Tower.

"It's not like they'd leave anything behind." Alpha continued to argue as he kicked a cracked skull from underneath the rubble.

"They left the Traveler." Jaeger pointed out.

The three looked up suddenly. Sure enough, the Traveler was still there, as silent and dormant as the day they left the Tower.

"He's just out here in the open." Alpha awed. "Exposed to the Darkness."

"I don't think so." Talos pointed out. Despite being in broad daylight, the reflection of the moon was still visible in the sky, not far from the Traveler. "I think I know where we should check next."

The two agents stood on the rim of the Hellmouth, their simple objectives nearly complete. They removed the blindfold from their prisoner and allowed her to look down.

"Not much different whether you take it off or not." She remarked sarcastically. Darkness was all one could see within the pit. "What kind of data do you expect to get out of throwing me in a ditch?"

The agents ignored her remarks and pushed her in, promptly jumping in after her. Upon landing, they grabbed her again and continued to guide her through the Stills.

An uneasy feeling overcame Maya as she was led through the darkness. Her body began to feel bulkier, as if she were being weighed down by something. Along with it a feeling of dread and despair.

As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, what she saw caught her by surprise. Thrall. Hundreds of them. If she were to be killed here, there would be no chance of her being able to revive later. The Darkness would devour her like they did Lazarus.

However, they did not attack. They watched, in suspense, as the agents continued to guide her through the caves. Maya continued to eye them cautiously, in case they were to suddenly attack.

Not that she would be able to do anything about it. She was still bound by that cuff that kept her Light dormant. And she had never felt more helpless.

After walking blindly through the maze that seemed to stretch out forever, they finally saw a light. Not like the many light pillars they had passed on the way, which had offered soothing but brief relief. This was brighter beyond anything Maya had ever seen, blindingly so.

For a moment, she had begun to feel a small glimmer of hope.

Until they had crossed the bridge.

For her, it seemed like some sort of cryptic temple. Though she was grateful for the fact that she was once again able to see, the sense of dread had not left her.

Once again, all Hive enemies in the room did not attack, but instead stood watching, as if they were about to watch an execution. After a much shorter walk, they encountered another, though somewhat less deep pit. Without warning, she was shoved into this one as well. However, the two agents did not follow this time.

She stood slowly, bracing herself for what she was to find. Turning around to finally face the glowing behemoth that ruled the Hellmouth.

"Sorry Laz, "She spoke quietly. "I think they're taking my Light the hard way."

~~~
"You think they'd take the refugees here?"
"That's what we're here to find out." Talos replied patiently, as he did with the last dozen and a half questions asked throughout the trip to the moon.
"How're we gonna do that?" Alpha pestered even further.
"Let's allow our actions speak louder than words." Jaeger finally cut in. "So shut up."
Alpha sighed in annoyance as he readied his sniper rifle. He was anxious to find Ling, and though he didn't express it outwardly, he knew that Jaeger was worried for her as well.
"Alright, let's hit it guys."
